Newcomer's Board / How to delete account?
« on: October 15, 2018, 02:11:02 pm »
Is there a way to delete my account on this site? I signed up because I thought I could learn how to make translation patches, but not only do I have no idea how table files work, despite reading everything this site offers about them, there's also the fact that I have no real means of learning Japanese effectively. Rosetta Stone? Can't afford it. Library books? I can read it, and understand it, but can't retain it. At this point, I'm starting to lose interest in the language entirely. So, what use could I have for this account at this point? If I can't delete it on my own, could I be banned, then?

Newcomer's Board / Re: Has anyone made a Mega Man X4 redub hack?

IIRC, there's a mod for the PC version, but honestly, I think you're more likely to see a redub featuring completely new actors someday, if ever at all.

My Japanese isn't the greatest, but I'm improving bit by bit, and DQ and FF are among my favorites. I'd be glad to help.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to help after all. Sorry.

I can definitely help with editing, and I could also try helping with translating, though I should warn you that my translating skills are somewhat subpar.

Nice! Although you might want to know that DQ games don't use the name Loto anymore (at least in America, anyway). Nowadays, Square Enix localizes it as Erdrick.

But, that's just nitpicking, at best.

Did you also happen to check on the other produce-related line: "Come buy my radishes! They are fresh and cheap. Buy thy radishes today!"? That line's a little bit hilarious, but it also kinda came out of nowhere.
Surprisingly, he's also selling radishes in the JP version. That's just part of the charm behind Dragon Quest; some NPCs just say the most random things.

If a swordy T is easy enough to hack in, then by all means, go for it!

Was Hajime directly referenced in the Japanese game?
Sort of. He uses the alias "Lord Kim."

Well, if uncensoring and spiffing up dialogue is your biggest goal, then I take it you know about Nester being shoehorned into DQ1. Apparently, the NPC in Cantlin claiming to be Nester is actually Hajime Kimura, an uncredited developer for the game. Just thought I'd mention it.

As someone who has made a couple RPG Maker games himself, I say best of luck to ya.

Perhaps you could just edit the title screens to say Dragon QUEST instead of Dragon WARRIOR. I'd say it's a fair enough compromise.

I'm not sure if this was asked already, but iirc, X5's good ending was based solely on luck. Is there any way of changing that?

Couldn't you just use this hack?
I played all 3 patches, and the attention to detail is a lot more thorough than the patch you mentioned.

Dude, what's with all that "too stupid", "too smart" talk? These things take patience and effort to figure out, that's all.

Yes, so I've heard, but replacing the audio clips with something entirely new, from what I can tell, seems to require actually knowing the difference between hexadecimals and ASM, which I don't. Unless I'm willing to spend a few months studying how hex works, there isn't much I can really do. But, since you're (sorta-kinda-but-not-really) chewing me out, I guess I'll at least put a little more effort into this. Maybe I'll come out this having learned something.

Well, looks like I'm not smart enough to hack a PS1 game after all. What a shame. :( The JP openings/endings still deserve English fandubs though, so I at least have something to do.

I'm on the other side of the fence, I'm personally not interested in fan dubs at all. But if you decide to go ahead with this yourself I'd be happy to give you all the information I have on this game. You can get a general idea of the process with the tools I listed on the first post.

Sure, you could just tell me all the necessary info. I'm sure I can figure it out. I'm not that stupid. XD

I don't know how to convert new audio to a format the PS1 can play though, all I did was replacing already formatted audio file packages from the japanese version.

Shouldn't be too hard. I probably have to make the new voice clips the exact same length as the originals, plus a few other bits, bobs, and magic touches to make it all work.

As much as I appreciate the effort you're putting into these, I'm just not a big fan of undubs. You seem to know a bit about the voice samples in those games and where they go, so maybe when you're done, we could work on a REdub? I can provide all the voices, and my singing isn't outright horrendous, and it would give the fans an option between Japanese voices or better English voices. Let me know what you think.

How about a Link to the Past GBA hack that bypasses all the Four Swords requirements? Yes, I know there's a save file for that, but what if you're playing the game on, say, a hacked 3DS? Or on a PSP? Or any means other than VBA, making that particular save useless?

Rest assured we are almost at the finishing line.
Thinks are being worked on and spoken of in the background, so it's just a matter of having a little bit more patience and it will be done. :)
That's good. I was getting worried the project might have died or something.
