ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Phantasy Star Generation 2 tryout.

I'm getting to work on it, but it is incomplete. I looked through the files, and at least one scene (Esper Mansion) is absent.

Wel, if you want to send over the script I'll get right on it

I don't know if you have a fully dumped script yet, but you now have a translator for this game. I've been waiting for a hacker to get on this.

If you're doing a full retranslation, are you doing an undub as well?

KaioShin said the right thing. :) Format of this archive is plain and easy.
It's just an archive with many gzipped files in there.
A ton of games seem to do this, someone should write a program that extracts all the gzip files for use in winrar.

I have a feature request (though I'm not sure if this is the place to do so.) In a future version, if its possible, could you add a hack for making the menu that opens with Y during battle open with A instead? It would make the game flow so much better, since you have to open it constantly. It's a small thing, but a pain in the ass.

If you did that, this patch would be orders of magnitude better than the PSX version.

Update By: SPennLUE
an 8-against-1 battle with Quickman, Airman, Leafman, and all the others from Rockman2 ("Mega Man 2" outside Japan).

Awesome. I was actually wondering about the status of these recently. Are the CD versions still planned, and if so are you going to do Megaman 2? Oh the possibilities or changing music on that one.

Lovely how no Resident Evil translation gives proper credit to the person who removed the protection on data (which rendered hacking the game pretty much impossible): Phoenix of SadNES cITy. Some people really know how to be ungrateful.

He's probably gotten used to it, much like how I've gotten used to how people say "someone found out that Castlevania II's awful translation is actually spot-on accurate, 'graveyard duck' and all". ^_^;
I can't find the post, but I think that was one of mine, and I never said the entire thing was spot on, but that line did mention a duck in a graveyard. NPCs do lie in that game.

Does anyone know if that PAL version of RE:DC can be played on NTSC systems? I'd really like to see how they dealt with the Master of Unlocking line.
I'm sure it would run on an emulator.

I was just listening to the theme song. What kind of grammar is this?

Don't いたずら私を悲しまないで、思い出に変わるから

"Don't don't make me sad for no reason, because I'll never forget it?"

I installed the 12.02 update patch, but that just makes it ask for a game disk, which I don't have.

I bought the game from here

Wow, the project is that close to complete? Nice. I've been waiting a long time to play this.

Interesting code for making the last boss dying in one hit, you can effectively turn him into Generalissimo Maka Maka, I guess (that's what I called him in my translation. I wasn't going to do it initially, but the game's supposed to be goofy.)  ;) Also, if the hex is 10 27 10 27, why does it work if you only change the first 10 27? If it's there twice, shouldn't you have to change it twice?

Shinjuku for Kujinshi, Shinagawa for Wagnas, Gotanda for Dantarg, Okubo for Bokuohn, Ebisu for Subier, Ueno for Noel, and Ikebukuro for Rocbouquet.
Those are some loose anagrams.

I can't type Japanese here, sop maybe I'll edit this later.

u-e-no is an anagram for no-e-ru?
shi-na-ga-wa for wa-gu-na-su?
shi-n-ju-ku for ku-ji-n-shi?
go-ta-n-da for da-n-ta-gu?
o-ku-bo for bo-ku-o-n?
e-bi-su for su-bi-e (that one actually works)
i don't remember the exact kana for Rocbouquet, it's been a while since I played. If the developers were attempting amagrams, they're pretty bad at them. Actually, they look more like loose backwards speak in kana then anagrams.

version 1.2.01

I have the paid download version, and when I install the patch, it wants a game disk (which I obviously don't have.)

SO: Blue Sphere Trans.
For Christmas!

His site mentions going with canon, translation wise. That would be pointless a month before a new translation of so2 is released and that canon changes.

Never understood the whole "gotta please the fanbase" thing when it comes to translating.  If you're not doing it for (and to) your own satisfaction, then what's the point?

The problem here is the fanbase itself. If they're not appeased, they complain. Very, very loudly. You get post after post after post of people bitching about this name's wrong and that name's wrong, and your own satisfaction is thus diminished 'cuz you're busy being pissed at people who just won't shut the hell up and play the damn game already >:(
Can I consider that a confirmation?  ;D

Just don´t, you know, complain. And I know some of you are GOING to. We went with canon wherever possible.
We've had this thread before (Camille/Kamiyu.) Time to track down SRWA and SRWAG.  ;)
