That might actually be possible, I saw a Video someone did converting SOTN into an 8 - Bit type thing.
If the Sprite has the same amount of Blocks available, You should be able to simply copy one over.  ::)

Floating Eye now is bloodshot.

Seems due to the poll, The Red Devil will make it in the patch.

Here is an image showing that both Japan and American releases have all three frames for the sprite.
In the American one the third sprite was unused but meaning most likely the coding for him was disabled more than simply not writing it.
Based on how it seems the American Version is a recreation of the already existing Japanese Version.

I probably won't be able to activate the third frame.
My knowledge of that kind of coding is pretty much zero.
But I will attempt to at least use the first two frames and see what happens.

As I thought the Red Devil's mouths do not open, They just hop around like the Flea Men but then again if they had left the Devils in the American Version, Would they have still taken out Frame Three?
I'm not sure. For now it's better than nothing.

For anyone that was curious,

This is what the unused sprite looks like in the Japanese Version.
Not finished, I've got a foot coming out of their backs, But the general idea is there.
Though I have to admit, It doesn't flow right. I see why they didn't use the unused sprite it just doesn't mesh.
Mainly the head.

Small Update,

I have looked into upgrading Alucard and found a very nice creation, However it seems to belong to Optomon whom was part of the development of the abandoned project "Cadence Of Agony". I'm going to be contacting him and seeing if he would allow me to use that sprite in this patch.

The worst that can happen is he tells me Tootafanoot.
But we shall see what happens.
This is not official yet but an idea.

That's definately something that interests me. I hated that section. Of course stairs remove the challenge probably. But I don't need to have a hard time at that part anymore.

It does make it easier but also causes a new challenge completely not intended.
When your walking up the stairs if you end up having one of the moving platforms under it come up underneath you, It will launch you right into those damn spikes. But nothing compared to the nightmare it was before.

I don't have a problem with it.
From what I've experienced, the rules to fork an already existing hack are:
  • Get the approval of the author(s) to fork the hack
  • Credit the original hackers in the Credits section of the forked hack
The first part is the most troublesome.
Anyway, you have the greenlight from me, you might want to contact Vanya too for that.
So basically now the US version has everything the Japanese version had?
Good luck with the rest! :)

I have been reading up on the patch and it looks like Vanya has lots of ideas and planning going on with it that he's currently working on.
Things that are far beyond my skills.

I'm going to leave it to the professionals.

Heart skips a beat...I totally just clicked Expand Rom and all my dreams came true!

The Editor may not be complete but it definitely accomplishes what I have been wanting to do.

Well a big part of that work goes to Vanya too, hedid the initial tile work for it, then I continued it alongside with bugfixing Vice Translations' translation. xD

But yeah, I can't wait to see how this ends up. :)
It's looking really good!

Would you guys mind if I continued modding that Castlevania III Patch? Adding some ideas to it?

I don't know where the limits are when it comes to editing patches already existing.

Have you thought about making changes to the Japanese Translation patch with the Title screen add on? I wish that it was the US title screen and had the NES Leviathan boss.

I'd probably have to get permission from the original creator of the patch.

But yes, Leviathan would be easy to fix.
I'm almost tempted to make a Japanese patch as well but instead of Uncesoring obviously, but rather fixing the things they fixed in the American release by adding them into the Japanese version. Creating a final combination release. With the best of both games.

I also noticed in the Title Screen add on patch they didn't use the third flea man jump sprite that was unused in the original. But had an excellent chance to.
In fact in the sprite sheet the hacker replaced the jumping red devil sprite with the first frame of the flea man instead of the unused frame. Meaning it could have been done.

The prayer cross also for some reason wasn't the Japanese Version in that patch.

Here is some more pics,

I started with the easy stuff first, Then I will begin working on Sprites and other stuff.

Here you can see the Menu Statues are now women, Added more feminine features to the exposed side of the statues.

Hey Everyone,

With all the hype going around about Un-Censoring old school Castlevania Games.
I decided to create my own version of what I think Castlevania III should have looked like upon it's original release.
I'm not talking simply bringing over all the Japanese Graphics Ect, My goal is to combine both The American and Japanese Versions together using the best of both games.
For example, I think the Leviathan's body in the American version looks good but would look cool with the Japanese versions horns.
The reason I have decided to call the project "Rated M For Mature" is because I intend to give the Censored graphics more than just undressing them, Example Statues and Sprites. I want to give them more realistic features. In comparison to the newer Castlevania games where now and days NOTHING gets Censored.

For starters I noticed the Prologue in the Japanese Version contains the title screen with a white box around it like slides from a reel. But the American Version had it removed. So I created the Prologue removing all the Boxes to see what it may look like....

I would love to see someone change Super Metroid's Title to Metroid III.

I put the Glowing Cross into the American Castlevania III.
Not sure where I am going with this yet.

I hope he eventually finishes the editor or at least the stage layout part. I love filling in Death Pits making the game easier. What I really would like to do is edit Stage B and put in a staircase all the way to the top of the stage before the boss run. I hate jumping from rising moving platform to platform without getting crushed by the spikes at the top. But who knows maybe some day.

@ShadowOne333 That mockup looks amazing! Something like that would be perfect for the US uncensored patch.

I got the US font & palettes transferred over now.

Interestingly, the unused stage select seems to be decompressing the fonts and not using the already decompressed font gfx in the expanded rom created by SC4ED. Not on the priority list to fix, but I'll see if I can't fix that, at least for completion's sake (maybe get it translated as well).

Also, something I didn't notice before, the US release added more copywrite info on the title screen, including "licensed by nintendo".

It's happening!!!!! It's really happening!!!!! :woot!: :woot!: :woot!: :woot!:

Wow, My head is up my butt.
I literally went to the download page copied the picture and never even looked at the contributors name until a second before coming back here and realizing ShadowOne333 is you.

That is an awesome title screen you did for Castlevania III.
I can't wait to see the finished product for this one.  :woot!:

If you're planning to drop the "IV" in the Super Castlevania IV logo, then in my opinion you should make another alternate patch that would keep the "IV" in the logo.

I tried translating the dialog in English, but most of the translating sites I used gave me bizarre results.

YES! Please have a patch that keeps the IV.
It just seems like a Nostalgic thing to me having the first 4 games having the roman numeral.
When they localized Akumajou Dracula X68000. They converted the title on the original version from the PSX to just Castlevania. To me it messes everything up because yeah in Japan they essentially translate to Castlevania but they are not the same games. (Reboots I Know) But still....
I think someone else mentioned earlier that for Circle Of The Moon the Europeans got a simple Castlevania title as well.
Which is in no way deserves the title Castlevania. It doesn't even resemble the first game.

Ok, So in case anyone was wondering.

When I have been comparing this project to that of a Castlevania III one that was done earlier.
Here is a pic of the title screen that I think is just breathtaking.

If something like this could be done for Castlevania IV Japan, I think it would be simply awesome!

I love this idea, Someone did a re-translation of the Japanese Version of Castlevania III awhile back and it was awesome.

They created a cool new Title Screen, Re-Translated the Dialogue.
By doing that, they didn't have to uncensor anything because it was a hack of the original Japanese Game.
Go with that route, Editing the Japanese Game. I think it would be easiest.

I hope this project gets finished, If it can be done to the Nes games then it should be possible to do it to this one too!

This is sweet!

As far as the remaining uncensoring goes, all Ican think of is just restoring the infinite number of crosses removed from sprites and the naked statues I think.

Someone should hack the Red Devils that replace the Flea Men in this game.
In Castlevania III American they replaced the Red Devils from the Japanese Version with Flea Men.
So to have them reverted back into Flea Men might be a cool thing.
But you would have to find Sprites that match, Maybe X68000 or Symphony Of The Night.

Not exactly sure why the palette editor stopped working, but I changed some things and it seems to be working again.  I also added display of events and a very crude event editor that allows events to move around.  Most events show up as a small red box except for the candles.  Events can be toggled on/off with the 't' key.

I decided to stop working on the editor for now.  I uploaded the source code to github.  It's a huge hack of the mmx editor so be warned if you look at the source.  It's hard to write good editor code when big parts of the game engine are still unknown.  Hopefully there's someone else more motivated than me to continue working on it.

Latest compiled version:

The Event Editor is perfect, I have already gotten rid of the blinking platforms in Stage 8 before Frankenstein and made it so the Stairs in Stage B don't fall apart when walking up them. Very nice editor so far!

I also tried out the Palette Editor and to my surprise the Blood idea worked!
However when I was messing with the program I simply turned all the Green Colors to Red and ended up with a mess.
But the idea is certainly possible.
If someone has already started an Un-Censored Project, Do not worry I am not going anywhere with this yet. This is just a result of me trying out the Editor.

We are still yet to see that Uncensored hack tho. :P

Either that or a Translated version of the Japanese Version.
I wouldn't mind seeing the blood drip from the Castlevania Logo instead of the Akumajou Dracula one.

Here is a screenshot of a beta project I did for fun but didn't take it anywhere.

It is reference to the after the credits scene from the movie Super Mario Bros.
