My god...

This thread was originally for the SNES Mini, and now it became a PC vs Console-like thread.....

Well, judging from your posts Disch, it seems you have your reasons to favor PC gaming more than consoles.

*  "But wait... all consoles run 30 FPS, don't they?"  Yup -- because when you compare consoles to PCs, they are completely inferior in just about every way.  Which is probably why I'm never going to buy one ever again.  Not even for Bloodborne

Please don't come at me with that. Gamers should treat both consoles and PCs equally IMO.

Yup, just an opinion. But hey it's all good. Most masterpieces have critics and fail to get universal love. It's the nature of humanity.

I totally agree. I bet the same thing is happening already with BOTW.

Judging from the posts, it seems like everybody is already talking about how to hack the little thing.....

Anyway, I think the SNES Mini can survive without Chrono Trigger, which in my opinion, is VERY overrated.

I've just beaten Ghosts 'n Goblins on my NES classic edition without save states! It felt rewarding.

I wanted to post the thread.

Oh well, still excited for the console.

I tested the patch, and it works!

On the meanwhile, I'll wait for Bubsy's inclusion in "SSB4: Switch Edition", THAT would be hillarious.

Wow, not bad Jiggers !

Glad this thread has some activity. I'm still trying to figure out how to make LIFE and SOFT work in battle, while at the same time looking for a way to display location names at the top of the screen.

What could possibly go wrong?

Nintendo just went this:

"What a nice rom hosting site you have there, it would be a shame if something where to happen to it" .

But in all honesty, I don't blame them, I could do the same thing too.

Bumping this one because I really want to implement some of these ideas. Any suggestions are welcome.

I used to do that too. There was a hack I played recently that allowed dead characters to gain experience; maybe add that to your list? I have no idea what happened if they tried to level up while dead, though, that never occurred...

"If the thief/ninja lands a critical hit, he gains gold based on the strength of the attack (akin to stealing)." -- I love this. Can I try to add it in to my hack? I'm already working on how it might work... XD (The critical hit maybe doubles the enemy's gold stats, so that its given after battle... but that's no good if the enemy runs away. And if you land a second critical and double the double and so on, whuff... never grind for cash again... but replace the Critical Hit message with "Stole coins, too!", that's a nice touch...)

Place Names: Neat thing if you can pull it off!

In Battle Raising/Softing: This is on my to-do list, too.

I'm one of the ones who actually likes FF1 more because there's no auto-target... but I can VERY much understand the desire for it. If it makes the game more fun for you and others, go for it.

Sure, you can do it. That message you suggested would be neat too!
As for the auto-target patch, If I can make it work, I'll make two patches. One for enabling it, and another one for disabling it.
However, in the meanwhile, I'll try to make LIFE and SOFT work in battle.

I used to do that too. Don't let OCD override your common sense. There's no reason to revert to a save file just because one character is 12 EXP behind the others. You're just making yourself replay stuff for no good reason and thefore killing the fun.

Well, I guess you're right. Maybe it shouldn't hurt to leave at least one character some levels behind.... especially if I made alot of progress in a dungeon.

Well... the thing is... you don't have to restart.  So if that's infuriating to you, then just don't do it.   :P

The thing is that I never run away from random encounters and always have everybody have the same experience point amount.

And even if it's infuriating to me, I have to brave the damn cave to get the floater, so if at least one of my characters dies, I'll just keep restarting over and over, until I get out of the cave with my four characters still alive.

While checking the disassembly of the ROM file, I was thinking about giving some of these hacks and enhancements:

  • If the thief/ninja lands a critical hit, he gains gold based on the strength of the attack (akin to stealing).
  • An auto-target patch(Yes, you heard me). To tell the truth, not many people like ineffective attacks, despite it giving a strategic aspect to battles.
  • When entering a location(castle, town, dungeon, etc.), the name of the place in question should be shown at the top of the screen (like later titles in the series).
  • The ability to use LIFE(Raise), LIF2(Arise), SOFT(Stona) and SOFT Potions(Gold needles) in battle, because why not. Plus it infuriates me having to restart the Ice cave if at least one party member gets either killed or petrified.

What do you think guys? Do you agree with some of my ideas? Any criticism is welcome.

Chicken knife in FF5, Onion Sword in FF3, Excalibur in most of it's appearances, Masamune in FF1, Blood Sword in FF2 and Ultima Weapon in all of it's appearances.
