Gaming Discussion / Re: Underrated Games

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Final Fantasy II. Despite it's flaws, it's a good game in it's own right.

Final Fantasy Dimensions, Zelda The Minish Cap and Secret of Evermore deserve a mention.

Boku No Pico is an animated cinematic masterpiece for all ages, with complex themes and character development along with gorgeous visuals rivaling the works of Hayao Miyazaki, "Neon Genesis Evangelion", and "Corey in the House".

Sit down and watch it in the company of friends and family! Bonus points if any of them work for law enforcement!
Yeah, what could possibly go wrong?

Guess my idea of a gil-stealing Thief finally became reality. Truly, well done!

Not even a day has passed in 2019 and disgraces are already happenin'. *sigh* Japan...

I've played Kirby Star Allies, and it's fairly decent IMO. I don't see anything wrong with it aside from being easy.

Gaming Discussion / Best/Worst game(s) from 2018

Since 2019 is coming in two weeks as of this writing, I supposed we should share our opinions. The title is self-explanatory.

For you, what was the best and/or worst game from this year? Mine is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for best and Fallout 76 for worst.

-II and III I don't think have anything outside of translation patches.

Well, I don't know about II, but III has Maeson Mix, which rebalances the game and fixes the "defenseless" thing when running away. I use it alongside Chaos Rush's retranslation.

Ah, Sony. Always copying Nintendo.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Youtube taking down game-hacking channels.

It looks like this has to do with contemporary games that are still supported by the original developers? In that case, of course they would do that, they are fully in their rights to, and it's not related in any way to what we do here. It's completely irrelevant and nothing to be surprised about.

What if I told you it also has to do with some games no longer supported? And how any recent music videos don't get DMCA'd too?

Gaming Discussion / Youtube taking down game-hacking channels.

Hey guys. This is bad news.

Recently Youtube have been hunting down some channels about hacking/moding/cheats/whatever. I can confirm they took down
Kaze's channel (the guy who makes SM64 mods).

Relevant link:

IMO, hacking/cheating is basically the same, but modding is different and to my knowledge, it doesn't infringe upon copyright since it only brings the mod files and not a pirated copy of a game (at least most of the time).

Gaming Discussion / Re: Pokemon Essencials bites the dust due to DMCA.

To tell the truth, some of you are right. They're using assets made by Nintendo. Had they used custom ones, no problem.

Also, some companies like Sega actually encourage fangames. But of course, this is Nintendo we're talking about.

I love Nintendo, but I hate when they do this.

Understandable, they are the IP owners, but it's kinda unfair that (excuse me for the strong language) those bastards take down Fan tributes that make no money from it at all. Of course, if they were using ads, then Nintendo would've been obviously taking action. But what if the fangame in question was making no money at all (no ads)?

Sorry for the long rant, but Nintendo needs to respect it's fans better. As long as they are no making money out of it, fangames and the like are fine IMO.

P.S.: Hey Isao, saw your comment and made the topic myself.

to be honest i think hosting issues like in the past will be the straw that breaks the camel back, not nintendo

stop worrying about nintendo, people

They worry because this is Nintendo we're talking about. They're very protective of their IPs (can't really blame them) and one illegal download can potentially hurt them (Switch games are already being pirated, not sure about their old games). But if it's ROM-hosting you're talking about, then it will be harder for people to find specific games that are out of print, with no other way to legally obtain them.

I pray Nintendo doesn't attack this site... and I hope Nintendo doesn't attack the edge of the internet.

Gaming Discussion / Re: RIP Virtual Console.

Meh. I'll just install RetroArch on my switch.

It's been a while....

Hello, fellow romhackers, with the recent annoucement of Undertale coming for Nintendo Switch, I was wondering if more indie games could come to the hybrid console.

I'd like Starbound and Iconoclasts to come to Switch.

And what's yours?
