Gaming Discussion / Re: Hard Mode - Player Beware
« on: July 10, 2016, 11:12:15 pm »
Speaking of Fire Emblem, I'm currently playing Banner Saga 2 and it's a very similiar game but from a decidedly western standpoint and oh boy is it simply superior in any conceivable way. Compared to it FE is like children banging on tin cans.
I only played the first one, and I loved the hell out of it. the story, characters, art, and combat are better than not just fire emblem, but than any other strategy rpg I have played before.

I also just tried to play ToME's version of hard mode. Fuck that shit.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Looking for a copy of Shantae GBC.
« on: July 07, 2016, 11:40:09 pm »
The problem im facing when i try to emulate it is that there are no GBA emulators that also emulate the GBC, at least not the ones suggested to me by other websites. my ultimate goal is to play the game on my GBA to access all the special features like the Tinker Bat transformation, and upgraded color pallet.
I remember that shantae on VBA gave me the extras. Might have been an earlier version though.

I know nothing about how to get this to work, but I want to give some encouragement on this project. I would greatly enjoy being able to play as Maria without having to play the PSP version.

Programming / Re: NES Save Batteries?

My ideal system would be an HDMI stick that I can carry in my pocket and plugs directly into any HDMI video+audio input port of a TV or monitor, needs no external power source hookup (uses RTG technology), emulates everything I care about, and "just works" with any controller you grab up that looks just vaguely close to the original controller. (And there is a "universal" mating plug of similar size to stick on the end of any controller cable end.) We might be a few years from that technology, yet. But I can hope!  ;D
I believe you can make a raspberry pi run off of power from USB, which many TVs have now. Really you can put anything you want on those. The things are nowhere near that small though.

That should actually be a legit difficulty mode aside from casual and classic in the newer games, I feel like casual is kind of a cop-out, but whenever I lose someone in classic I do a reset anyway, I would like to just automatically get a game over when someone dies to save time reloading the game.
I have the exact same problem. Unfortunately, it has kept me from playing much of the series. :(
I always worry about how losing a character will make my party weaker, then making future battles be more difficult, causing more deaths, ultimately ending in a save file that is near-impossible to progress in.  :banghead:

Now I'm actually thinking that Quina could be a cute (chibi sized) and funny character to add into this already cute game. ::)
I remember that character now. It used to fight with a fork, I found that hilarious as a kid.

Also Gilgamesh

I want Laguna and Shadow. Because guns n' dogs are cool.  :P

Newcomer's Board / Re: How do you edit graphics in Nintendo DS games?
« on: June 28, 2016, 09:15:39 pm »
I suppose I should specify what I'm trying to do, though. I'm attempting to edit the graphics of Mama from "Cooking Mama" on the DS.

...d-don't ask.
Well, I'm gonna ask. Are you going to make the PETA version of cooking mama available on the DS? That would be funny.

But I think I read somewhere on GBATemp a long time ago that someone else had a similar problem. Maybe they are compressed in some other way than other ds games?

Gaming Discussion / Re: Don't you hate dreams about computer games
« on: June 28, 2016, 01:55:04 pm »
Bumping this thread because I had a pretty interesting dream a few days ago and want to share it.
The game had high-res 2D graphics and played really well. When I woke up I felt slightly depressed that it wasn't real. What a shame...
That sounds pretty badass. I would like to see a game like that, with nice 2D graphics drawn in the ukiyo-e style. Quick, someone go to Kickstarter!

the time limit for the second quest was removed in the ummm... latest patch (released more than a decade ago haha). Basically you are under a "rush" for the water chip, but the time limit is pretty lenient.
Hmm. I must have been playing an unpatched version.  It doesn't even take long to get the chip, it just gave me a panic attack because I didn't want to screw up my save :P

Got Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics on Steam.
In my opinion, skip the first for now. It has a time limit so you can't really explore all you want like you can in 2.  And am I the only one that actually liked Tactics?

I'd be ashamed if they didn't. I don't personally identify with the term "SJW" but I will tell you that if they oppose thinking that is incorrect, evil, or otherwise incompatible with the goal of equality for everyone and everything then I am an SJW.

They aren't. they are mostly people who reject others for being "incorrect" while they are doing the same thing. You do not want to be one of them.

That's a whole completely different ball game and you know it.  One is a global issue that cannot be solved with a few mouse clicks.  The other one is.
I know, just the point of saying "if you ignore something you are for it" was what I was trying to prove wrong.

By not fighting oppression you are consenting to it.

Let me ask you something, do you consent to child labor, where young people are forced to work for low pay?

Now tell me, what have you done to fix that problem?

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Some romhacking questions...
« on: June 26, 2016, 10:30:26 pm »
For 1: I think that deals with palettes, which is WAY beyond my level of expertise (My first and only hack was changing the name of Goblin in FF1 to Asshat :P)

2: On Lips, there should be an option that says "create IPS patch" the first file you select will be the unmodified rom, the next will be the hacked rom. After that it will give you an IPS patch

EDIT: USC beat me to it. :P

Personal Projects / Re: Castlevania III - Rated M For Mature

Medusa was always drawn as male I think.

That's one of two things. Could be a snake woman. Or could be a snake man that only goes to the gym on pectoral day.

By the way, about the translation part: this might be your project and everything, but you really should clarify if you intend to cut the Hostess Club quiz or not from your re-translation patch

He does not intend to cut the Hostess Clubs. The most important things to translate right now are the sidequests. He just wants those translated before the Hostess Clubs are touched. It is not planned to be cut unless it is impossible to find a translator to do that much. At the moment available translators are just difficult to find seeing as how it is in the middle of summer, and most are busy with other projects.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Does anyone know what game this is?
« on: June 25, 2016, 12:57:35 am »
A few years ago I had this bootleg GBA cartridge with a bunch of games.

One of them was a Yu-gi-oh card game, which is what I'm looking for, but I can't seem to find the actual name of the game anywhere. I can't look at it on the cartridge either, because I cannot remember where it went.

Anyway, this game was originally for the GBA(clarifying this since these bootleg cartridges usually have NES games). You could select 6(or 8? somewhere around that number) people to battle in this fighting mode. When you select your opponent, they say some stuff, and then you face off in rock paper scissors to see who goes first in the match. Then the card game begins.

That's all I can really recall, except that it also had link support to battle actual other people, but I don't think that's really helpful.

That describes most of the Yu-Gi-Oh games on the GBA unfortunately. Eternal Duelists soul is one of them.

Stupid question: why does someone who can't read Japanese NOT want a translation, but only the Japanese text?
While I admire the "do it myself" gung ho attitude, turning down human translations in favor of Google is... umm.. foolhardy? Yes, that's the nice way to put what I was thinking.
Same thoughts here, unless if he is making a table file I do not see a point. He could also be sending a script to a translator, but for that to be the case, he would more than likely be putting this into a language other than English. I am confused now  :'(

Gaming Discussion / Re: What. are you playing?

Recently Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, GGXrd Revelator, Stardew Valley, and P3: FES. I have had this persona 3 game going on for more than a few years, but never finished this gem of a game. Only got 12 more days to go, with the aim of killing reaper. (80 hours playtime so far)
