Excellent, my friend!  Thanks a lot!

BTW, this one does complete the parts that the earliest patch didn't have of the script? :)

Also, this new patch should be the version 2.0 (in order to update the entry of the database).
There are a minor number of dialogue fixes but some of the UNTRANSLATED textboxes are still there. I'm going to keep updating this WIP patch for a bit more before officially updating it as a version 2.0. If you're interested in testing and reporting bugs and typos that would be appreciated!

Is this new patch standalone or does it get patched on top of the old patch?
This patch is a standalone and should be applied on the original.

It's been a long time, but here's a patch that I built from some commits I made a few years ago but never updated the patch with. It should contain some of the fixes for the freezing bugs but please post any other issues you encounter here!

I'm still around, checking posts and stuff. I'm definitely aware of the untranslated text and a couple game freezes. I've fixed the game freezes but haven't gone through and fixed up the translations yet.

I'm currently busy with other stuff in life so I haven't fixed everything up yet and released a new patch. I do expect to get around to doing that and releasing a more polished patch by the end of the year though :)

A key is needed to download the tools.

Ah, I didn't realize Mega did that. I'll be submitting the tools under the utilities section then and also writing up an announcement later then.

Yep, I've decided to release the patch early. There are still various small bugs that need to be ironed out so I might release a more polished patch later. I've also included a link to the tools I've written in case anyone wants to translate the game into other languages / fix some of the bugs themselves.

Posting an update since I haven't for a while.

  • All the text in the game should now be translated (around 250k Japanese characters or roughly 2~3 light novels' worth of text).
  • Lots of bugs have been fixed.
  • I've gotten some useful bug reports from beta testers but could use more testing (again, PM me to help test).

The game is basically in a completely playable state but there are still quite a few spacing / graphical issues I'm aware of that need fixing. I'm planning to publicly release the patch on June 10th, 2016. Over the summer I'll address any remaining bugs and typos people report and then clean up and open source the translation tools / hacking information in late August.

Yep! Absolutely correct! コンビに (konbini) is an abbreviation of コンビニエンスストア (konbiniensu sutoa; convenience store). Adding る (ru; a common verb ending for 一段動詞 (verbs that are comprised of a stem and ru)) to the end of a noun is a common and slang-y way of making that action into a verb. Same way that in English we could, for example, say "he knifed someone!" even though knife isn't a verb.

Other cases in Japanese include ググる (guguru), meaning "to Google" and マクる (makuru; to go to McDonalds).

Yeah, even in English, we use "google" as a verb when it was originally a noun. I haven't ever heard anyone say "conveniencing" or "convenience-storing" though. It would probably be more accurate to translate it as such, but I tend to prefer localized translations that roughly convey the same meaning but sound more natural to literal translations which I find stilted and distracting. I probably should have prefaced my post saying so.

That's why I also decided to change 心地ええ from "It's good..." to "Today was good". I think a more literal translation would probably be something like "I feel good" (心地 means something like "feeling" or "mood" with the first person subject implied here), but I thought that sounded strange.

Status update:
  • Things left to translate are 288 bestiary entries, an opening cutscene, and endgame credits.
  • Various issues such as slowdown / flickering when drawing a lot of text has been fixed.
  • Menu and battle text is mostly polished now.

Despite what I said previously, I would actually like to have some beta testers help with finding issues in the patch. Please send me a PM if you're interested in testing. I'll likely be reaching out in late March / early April.

I think "shopping" works. "To the konbini!" is another option, if you're okay with using "konbini" instead of "convenience store".

I think Sky_Yoshi was referring to fusaru's transcription. e.g. 10 is 心地ええ not バ地ええ.

Here's a version of Sky_Yoshi's translation with grammar mistakes cleaned up. There were also a couple errors in the Free Time panel. "黃昏" should translate to "evening" not "time break" and "キュートの奴" should translate to "cute one" not "yellow one".
Panel 1: I'm a bug!
Panel 2: Woke up. Dreamt of a cow. It was scary.
Panel 3: Nori bento, the soul of Japan ♥
Panel 4: And we're off! To Yao please! (note: 八尾 = Yao is a place name)
Panel 5: Balance inquiry.
Panel 6: Going to the convenience store!
Panel 7: Evening... That cute one's such a nerd.
Panel 8: I forgot! That TV show is starting!
Panel 9: I made it. Shoten. (note: 笑点  = Shoten is a Japanese tv show)
Panel 10: Today was good.

とにかく 体力だ! should translate to something like "What's important is stamina!"

Probably the best ARM assembler for large ROM hacking projects:

Good progress is being made. The script is going through its second pass. Menu and battles are mostly translated although there's still a lot of text that needs manual repositioning to look good. I've also finished most of the graphics hacking and just finished hacking the name select screen so here are some comparison screenshots:

As for testing, I will be mostly playing through and testing myself. After all, playing through a buggy incomplete patch would probably spoil the experience  ;)

Happy New Year everyone!

The first draft of the script is now 100% translated. I've spent the past couple days hacking the text display for battles and it's now finally in a playable (but ugly) state.
Also, now that I've made pretty significant progress in the project, I can realistically estimate that the translation will be completed by June 2016.

Thanks a ton Seihen! I tried searching this up earlier but gave up after the first 2 links :P

And yeah, I agree. I was going to ask a native Japanese friend for help but there's a lot of dialogue to unscramble. Good thing someone's already solved them and documented it somewhere on the internet.

Yeah, I was totally mindblown when I realized what the Water People were saying wasn't just gibberish. I think the unscrambled dialogue is mostly just an easter egg since one of the characters in your party can translate what they say. Her translated dialogue is useful information on how to proceed in the game though, whereas the unscrambled dialogue seems to be unrelated.

The game's full of all sorts of secrets actually, some of which are really hard to find without a strategy guide in hand. After I release my translation patch, I'll see if I can get around to documenting some of the things missing from Titney's strategy guide on GameFAQs.

So are they jumbles of words with the characters out of order?
Yep. And words aren't jumbled within themselves necessarily. Two words can be jumbled together.

It would be hard making a 'translation' around it. Maybe just make it read in romaji?
I would translate the Japanese into English and then jumble it up in the same fashion. For example, この世界が本当なら僕だけがうそのまま translates to "If this world is the truth, then I am but a lie." which would be jumbled up into something like "Shifti drowl ithes turth, hIten butam alie." which can be figured out by a native English speaker with enough time.

Errr, all you've done is convert it all to hiragana.

The characters themselves are scrambled. For example, the first 5 characters セこカのイ unscramble to このセカイ in the example I gave.

There's a group of people in Magical Vacation called the Water People and they appear to speak gibberish but I've found that in fact, sometimes the Japanese is just jumbled. Here's an example:
セこカのイ ホがトん ナらウ ダぼケくガ のソまウま turns into この世界が本当なら僕だけがうそのまま

Can someone help me unscramble some of these? Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they all unscramble to something sensible as some of it might be actual gibberish.

ダたカ まケわルだ ケのナつ タっひ タとり デ
けズしサ がダ カのレ キいト をサめルせ
コせネを テおッチ マをテで タずマみリニ ワるス
ダろドけノら ミをキ キるダしメ くボ (the last bit seems to unscramble to キミを抱きしめる僕)
ゲゆマがー ナがつテもッて ジゃイなイぃー
コほタり キかオた チとハこ ミなハを ズらタしタ
マあニまリのイてキぃ マあニまリのシでンくィ
ハれオ カたイた ヲすタれワ サちイィーヤ なリカ
ニいマこコ いコん ブのダいツ マたヤるドしィー

Oh, and there's no need to translate it into English. I'm capable of doing that myself  ;)

A quick update. The first draft of the script is now 80% complete. All item names, spell names, and item descriptions have been translated. The menu is a lot more functional now so here are some new screenshots!
