Make sure you've got the latest version of the patch (available from the project page above) and try again. We've had some vague issues supporting the different formats of the game, but that particular one should be fixed now.

Edit: Upon further inspection, the problem stems from the fact that there are multiple different user disks around because you have to make one in order to play the game in the first place. This means the various disks around the internet will be more difficult to support. We'll see what we can figure out to remedy this problem, but for now, the HDM and HDI versions are more standardized and more easily supported.

Uh, I think you guys submitted this under the wrong section. While a translation is indeed a hack, there's also a category dedicated solely for translation hacks. Hacks are reserved for stuff like graphic mods, gameplay changes etc.

Yep. First release for us, mistakes were made. We're trying to get it fixed.

And it's out.

We're still waiting for RHDN to accept our submission, but you can get the patch and manual from our site for now!

Edit: Accepted!

We've started beta testing on the patch now, which means translation and typesetting are practically done and we're trying to put the last level of polish on the game before public release by setting a number of new eyes on it.

We've posted about it on our website, where we also posted about possible future projects and other games we're interested in on the PC98 system.

E.V.O.: The Theory of Evolution (46 Okunen Monogatari: THE Shinkaron) for the PC-9800 Fan Translation Trailer

I can offer to make a guide/help make a guide on how to download/install the emulator, so that everyone can enjoy it ^^

We've been working on that ourselves already with our own webpage. While it isn't quite full of information just yet, it does have a project page and a short getting started with emulating PC-98 page.

Does the game have multiple endings?

If there are, can you briefly explain how to get them?

The multiple endings are if you choose the wrong way to evolve. Basically if you do something like distribute your points to only a single stat and keep evolving in that direction the game will throw a message at you and then tell you a little story about why your species went extinct, then say game over. There's only one real ending though, the rest are game overs.

I think the manual says there are about 60 different game over stories.

I'll just mention this, I'm at the point where I will start work on translating the manual soon. Take that information however you like.

Aaaaaaaahhh so exciting!

Remember though, that percentage only reflects the amount of text inserted and not our overall progress. We still have a lot of testing and script editing to go, as well as crash bugs and the like to be fixed. We are doing our best to make the release high quality and also as soon as we can! Just not sure when that'll be yet.

One more quick little video from later on in the first chapter so you guys know we're getting through this really well.

Still ironing out bugs and fixing English. Also I got rid of the scanlines that were in the last webm so you can see how it looks with and without depending your emulator settings.

Won't be posting too many more videos, don't want to spoil things from the game for you guys, but I will probably try to make a trailer closer to release!

There's still a lot of work to do, but I'd like to submit Exhibit A. The first thirtyish seconds of in-game footage in English.

Early early early build, English is subject to change, etc, etc. (Also the colors aren't perfect but that's due to my recording software. Need to figure out what it's doing.)

Click this

I'm down to about 21 (of 47) evolution game over stories to go, which is the last of the text that needs translation. I'll hopefully finish that before the weekend.

Then it's time to start beating the script into shape with revisions and making sure everything sounds good as well as fits nicely into all of the text boxes and things.

Good progress being made.

Edit: The first draft of the script is done! Still a lot of work ahead though.

Sorry for the late reply but the scans look good enough to either OCR or just translate however. I'll let you know when I can focus on them after finishing work on the main game.

The Japanese titles for both games are pretty long as well.

46 Okunen Monogatari: THE Shinkaron (PC-98)
46 Okunen Monogatari: Harukanaru Eden e (SNES)

And the official English title for the latter only really cuts down on the first part.

E.V.O.: The Theory of Evolution (PC-98)
E.V.O.: Search for Eden (SNES)

I think it fits fine in general when placed next to that and considering the content of the game is pretty based on the theory of evolution as well.

Better scans or pictures of the manual would be appreciated if possible, sonofashark. You could PM them to me if you want to keep them under wraps or secret or something. Mostly so I can have all of the text properly available to me, makes it easier to translate and possibly use OCR so I can use it with the rest of my translation tools.

Also, I think I've got the title. It wasn't a hard decision to make, in all honesty. It's basically just slamming the translation of the SNES game's title into this one.

E.V.O.: The Theory of Evolution

Hope I didn't steal any of hollowaytape's thunder by letting you guys know the title we're probably going to go with. He's the real hero of this particular romhack.

Responded as well. Certainly still interested and around. Free time to work comes and goes but I am still willing to translate.

I'm a translator, and I'm interested. I'll PM you more information if you need it, but get back to me when you see this. I can't start IMMEDIATELY but I'd love to work on this.
