Personal Projects / Re: Romancing Saga 3 English re-translation [WIP]
« on: August 23, 2020, 05:22:30 pm »
I wouldn't mind it if the re-translation was more of a script-port of the recent U.S. releases.
It would make Romancing Saga 3 feel like an updated version of the vanilla game.
The full package, imo.
I'm usually against this because the ones to port are usually not the best specimens.  That goes for both RS2 and 3, there are issues in both.  However, provided some revisions are done that approach wouldn't be necessarily a bad thing.  FFV's GBA script port turned out alright for example.

Personal Projects / Re: Ganymede (Super Mario World hack)

Holy heck, there are no comments yet?

I have to say, this is definitely going to be one of those where the first question about every chapter is "this is a hack?  I thought it was a new game!"  Very impressive presentation going on here.

I remember once seeing Treasure Hunter G being mentioned as having pre-renders that are on par if not better looking than on the PS1.  Believe it or not the backgrounds do seem to compare well to Torneko: The Last Hope.

Personal Projects / Re: Chrono Trigger Bugfix and Uncensoring Patch

I just found this patch and I'm really looking forward to playing it! Is there any plans to NPCs in Antiquity speak with and old English accent? Kinda how all the cavemen in prehistory do?
I've never really thought of that, but I don't really think I'd want to do it.  In Antiquity, at least the enlightened ones do well enough to separate themselves from other eras when it comes to lines.

I'd like to see that done too. It's a change not seen in other NES Mega Man games and would be welcome if reverted.

As for other Mega Man games, I'd love to see all five Game Boy games colorized. Either by color hacks or rebuilt from the NES games themselves.
And then Roll-Chan World, but that would be a whole other critter.  Might even need to do that from scratch.

Taking the SNES Street Fighter 2 Turbo's sound effects and them inserting them into Super Street Fighter 2 would be a huge benefit when combined with the palette fix.  Super tends to get some grief for changed sound effects, though I'm not sure whether or not it was because of space issues.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Gamepads for emulation
« on: August 06, 2020, 02:04:28 pm »
SN30 Pro is good enough for me.  SNES form, PS1 button layout.  The D-Pad can have some issues but they are fixable.

For first-party stuff I'm gonnna just suggest a PS4 controller, since that and XBox One are just straight bluetooth.  A lot of people swear by the XBox One, and while I get their points I just can't get behind the switching of the D-Pad and left analog in this style of layout for emulation.  Can't even get used to the Switch with that really.

Personal Projects / Re: Final Fantasy IV - Ultima
« on: August 06, 2020, 01:48:27 pm »
Ultima is great fun!

One thing I noticed though, the two patches are different sizes.  Is there more going on than just the header, or is the no-header made using a headered ROM meaning most of the original ROM data exists in the patch?

And yet, this Twitter thread thrives.
It could be that they're quietly attempting to go straight for the source of the leaks, to avoid another media incident when new competition against the Switch is approaching.  There were apparently some hints that even more is coming, after all.

I'm using the pre-patched version of MottZilla 0.95 available at the main site, and the BPS gives me a checksum error.  Is there a specific setup I should be using to apply this?

EDIT: Nevermind, just had to remove the header.  Normal SNES stuff. :P

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Metroid II EJRTQ on Real Hardware
« on: July 30, 2020, 02:01:07 pm »
Strange, it works fine on my everdrive without any issue.

Is it wrong for someone else to revise a book after the author is dead?  No.
Is it wrong for someone else to revise a ROM file after the devs have no intention to update it?  No.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Pac-Man CE NES is actually a romhack.
« on: July 08, 2020, 10:44:48 am »
It looks to me more like homebrew than a romhack.
I treally does.  Before this I was questioning why Namco's suddenly into NES homebrew.  I've been fooled before though, I thought at first that nesrock's hack of Super Pitfall was homebrew.

Newcomer's Board / Re: Spoofs allowed here?
« on: July 07, 2020, 02:39:29 pm »
Alright, see, that's the small problem I was having, because on one hand you say "noted clearly as a spoof" but they specifically went out of the way to make it unnoticeable as a difference at a glance from a regular hack since it has to be submitted via "complete" rather than "translation" or "spoof"(the latter doesn't exist at all as an option).  I put it in the description that it was a spoof so, hopefully that's clear enough.

to be fair, the pirate fight in samurai pizza cats wasn't half bad.
Honestly, the Complete category is an enigma to me and I'm not sure why it exists at this point.  Almost everything that I would say is Complete is listed under Improvement.  At least Spoof filled an obvious role.

Off the top of my head, counting Action-RPGs:

Popful Mail
FFVI (technically, it's an ensemble really)
Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Tara's Adventure
Every pokemon game Crystal onwards, and Pokemon TCG 1 and 2 (the first with a patch only)
Monster World IV

There's more obviously, but I have no idea what patches are available for this sort of thing.

The link seems to be broken. I only get a white, empty page.
Could've been the site's fault for a sec, both are working fine now.

Nice.  This is a fun excuse to come back to this game.

The weather in this can slow things down a good bit, but if you're using Mesen you can overclock it back to smooth.

Gaming Discussion / Pac-Man CE NES is actually a romhack.
« on: July 04, 2020, 01:13:58 pm »

Yep, a hack that Namco and M2 had no part in.  There's no denying that this rendition is amazing, but I hope Coke774 got maybe a payment at least for using their work?

Gaming Discussion / Re: DS Games don't work R4i 3DS

You might want to try TWiLightMenu++ instead.  You won't need to worry about SD Card size there.

I'm liking these new title screens for the Kunio games.  Fighting Challenge actually looks better than the original IMHO.
