Personal Projects / Re: For the Frog the Bell Tolls DX (WIP)

Unless it was coded in the same way as Link's Awakening DX where the game is compatible on both GB and GBC hardware.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see what your saying. I guess it would still be a neat feature to have, even if you are playing it on your SNES without colour. For a more complete authentic feel of compatibility features anyway...

Personal Projects / Re: SD Splatterhouse needs a better sub-title

Believe it or not, I'm 100% responsible for that CIB Splatterhouse SD design. I use to be part of the Timewalk team when we were still around. I myself was never really a fan of the whole "wanpaku graffiti" sub-title either. Splatterhoue SD seemed a lot more appropriate and fitting to me so I went with that. ;D

Looking pretty damn good to me!

I have to agree, we should just leave things as they are for now. All these alternate patches are just going to take away time from finishing the actual game, and all this "I want this, and I want that" tends to come off as a bit ungrateful. It's not up for us to decide. Let the game come out, and if there a great enough demand for these alternate patches, that's something that can be explored at a later date.

As for me, I'm perfectly fine enjoying the game exactly how the creators of this hack envision it. They've done fantastic work up to this point that I can see and I have no reason to doubt them. Keep up the good work. We're almost there!

Thanks guys
Here is some progress: https://youtu.be/ZSlSSWtEm0g

Really liking the look of everything. The colour looks great and everything seems to work very well together in my opinion.

One little thing I noticed that I figured I'd mention though. You added that little spike/cow lick to Prince Sable's hair, which I actually like as its a little touch which makes the sprite just a little more accurate to original artwork of the character. But I noticed that the cow lick is most commonly shown on the the right side of his hair (our left) and figured it could be changed to reflect that. I also noticed the cow lick is not present when seeing the sprite from behind which could be added as well. Just a minor suggestion I though I'd point out.

It felt so perfect... and balanced.

I totally have to agree here! All this talk about about changing this and that, but I personally think it looked best the way toruzz had it in the beginning. Everything just felt right. Now I feel like everyone's nitpicking is just stirring everything up and making it hard to find a focus. I say stick with the original pallet!

I have also contacted james rolfe and mike through e-mail to tell them about the hack but I have no idea if they will even see the e-mail. It would be great if they reviewed it.

Yeah, you might have to send them a copy of the game on cartridge. I don't know that they would do an AVGN episode, but I can definitely see them doing a "James & Mike Monday's" for it. They've played rom hacks a few times and I'm pretty sure those carts are usually sent to them.

This looks fantastic so far! I don't really have any issues with the red cross as it is personally. But if it was changed to be pink or something, that wouldn't bother me at all.

The only thing I'm noticing that could be fixed is the plain patch of ground between the two houses in the top left corner. Right now you have it as just plain grey to match the stone walkways. I'd suggest filling it in with some grass. And maybe the fixing the stone in the bottom right corner by the water, but that's just nitpicking.

I'm all for the changes as long as things don't go too overboard. So far everything looks really good and also seems to stay in line with the type of changes Nintendo made when making the "DX" version of Link's Awakening. So I feel like they would have made similar changes for a "DX" release of this game!

This project has got me super excited! I'm a huge fan of this game. There seems to be a lot of attention towards this game right now with the translation being re-worked and improved. And now it getting the "DX" treatment with this color hack. I'm all for it!

Hope it'll be compatible with the translation to combine for the ultimate experience!

Anyway, everything looks great so far and good luck with the rest of the project. Looking forward to seeing more progress!

Right on, still very much looking forward to seeing this completed! I don't think I've ever been so excited for a fan translation as I am for this one! Looking forward to another update!  :D

Optomon is one hell of a talented man! I'm sure the soundtrack will come out amazing whatever direction he decides to go in!

By the way...
Spoiler:
what'd you think of the cryptogram in the crime boss mission? :)

This is where I stopped playing during my last session. I remember thinking to myself "Oh boy, I hope I can figure this one out without having to ask for assistance again!". I haven't had a chance to pick up where I left off since then, so here's hoping I can figure it out on my own when I do! ;)

Still haven't got around to updating the patch yet so if any of these have been corrected, I apologize. I'll be making sure to update it before I make any more progress.

- Text Break when talking to Zenikase before Wurdy Books investigation mission. "Permission just came down for us to launch an investigation of Wurdy BOOKS."

- Grammar error when talking to Mieu after having your job taken from you in Stillburrow. "You are Rent A Hero No.1, so be sure AND try your hardest!" Should be "so be sure TO try your hardest!"

- Text break when getting info from Mieu about the mission to find Saran. "Please hurry over there and meet with them! The reward is 4000 GOLD."

Cool. If I update the translation patch, will that have any negative effect on my save file? Also, here's another I found last night:

- When picking up the safe key with a full inventory "You can't carry this. You've already got too much stuff." Then the "Yes and No" box appears without notifying you if you want to drop an item.

- Text break after dropping an item for the safe key. "Chad: AA Battery discarded. Key AQUIRED."

As for your question...
Spoiler:
For me, my main strategy in combat throughout has been the jump kick. For the thugs with hand guns, I usually try to jump kick them off the screen as quickly as possible and just continuously punch the edge of the screen as they attempt to walk back in. Baiting them to shoot at you while your standing and ducking under th shot has been pretty effective as well.

And I think I'm going to have to throw in the towel on this one...
Spoiler:
Right now I'm stuck on trying to find the plates that have been thrown into the ocean. I got the clue from Johnny about them being dumped in the ocean and being able to access the water from the upper-left section of the map, but I cant seem to figure out where exactly in the water they are located. I'm assuming you nee to search each tile of water to find it (which seems a little excessive), and I have tried to do so (though I could have missed it) but have still come up with nothing. Am I missing something?

A couple more:

- Text mistake when talking to Johnny at Jake Company "If you're really out to discover OUT what this company's up to".

- Text break when talking to Johnny while equipped with the disguise with a full inventory. "I'll give you somethin' real good. But first you GO DITCH SOME OF YOUR STUFF".

- Text break when talking to Billy at the police station after his arrest. "Well tell him this: He'd better hurry up, pay my bail and
get me OUTTA HERE IF HE WANTS ME TO KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT ABOUT THAT SAFE HE'S GOT..."

Yeah, I thought I was going to have to ask for help on that one too. But then ended up figuring it out on my own. Just keep checking the cassette tape...

A couple more spots I noticed where text goes outside the box:

- during the scene after defending the president from the attack in Molden. "It makes people really strong, but at a TERRIBLE PRICE".

- when talking to a citizen about the two gangsters in Molden. "The other day those two gangster dudes cheated ME".

Yeah, text speed is set to "Fast" by default. I find it kinda slow. Especially when doing frequent tasks like buying from the shop, or fighting the alley thugs for money.

Continuing my playthrough, the text issue I mentioned is in fact the same one FallenAngel pointed out in the bank. I'm going to play through this to the end so I'll be sure to post anything else I come across.
