ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Character hackinG thread
« on: March 08, 2017, 01:28:08 pm »
Oh, man. Forgot about this thread.

About the Breath of Fire III question, if I remember correctly (it's been awhile), Teepo only works in a party consisting of Young Ryu / Young Rei / or just Young Ryu. The game crashes otherwise.

I remember someone attempting a "permanent childhood" play-through way back then by using the walk-through walls code to bypass the whole event where Rei and Teepo leave the party, but eventually the game events stopped triggering so he couldn't complete it.

By the way, OP. What do you use to modify Vita games? I bought one recently (mostly do play the Trails games) and I don't know what's recommended to use. That Cold Steel temporary characters hack looks interesting.

Man, this sure takes me back.

When I was younger (back in the early 00's), I loved using codes to bring back guest characters or characters who permanently left the party / were not accessible.

Lilith and Leon in Tales of Destiny, Kukuru in Arc the Lad 2, Seifer and Edea in Final Fantasy VIII, Beatrix in IX, Dias in Claude's story in Star Ocean 2, Zulwarn in Vanguard Bandits, Kiefer in Dragon Quest VII, Anastasia and Lucied in Wild Arms 2, Elly in Xenogears endgame...

I won't be able to contribute to the thread, but I'll keep watching it out of curiosity.

Almost deleted the folder this file was in. Lucky.

Not sure if it's the latest version, though.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Phantasy Star II : resurrecting Nei ?

You can always mimic Nei from Generation 2.

Even if she's not as strong physically as the other characters, having her with healing and buffs might make her useful for the late-game (if there's room for new techniques, that is).

Someone else asked a similar question days ago:,17494.0.html

I posted a code that enabled Nei in the party select screen after Climatrol (I didn't make the code, though)

If you want something more complex, you can always open some Memory Editor, load your save state (on Kega Fusion, the file would be a .gsx), go to the offset EA82 and replace one of the characters manually.

00 - Rolf
01 - Nei
02 - Rudo
03 - Amy
04 - Hugh
05 - Anna
06 - Kain
07 - Shir

Yes, there is.

It's been awhile since I last used this code, but, if I remember correctly, you are supposed to enter the code after she...leaves, and then she'll magically appear in the party selection screen, among the rest of the characters.

If difficulty is the problem, there's always this:

(6.60 PRO-B9)

No idea if it makes any difference, but I'm pretty sure the cfw you're using is a little outdated. If I remember correctly, the latest stable version is PRO-C2, with PRO-Nightly being slightly more recent.

While not exactly what you're looking for, this thread has a huge amount of codes that might be useful for finding the addresses you need (or so I hope).

You have no idea how long have I waited for this game to be translated.
Having played the entire Ogre series but this game is truly a shame. Best of luck with this project, mate!

Oh, almost forgot, if you're not familiar with it, this website might be useful to you in some way:

Sorry revive this old topic, but this is something I've been looking for awhile, but without any success.
I know the .zip file was named "", but it appears to be lost on the Internet.
So I'd like to second vivify93's request. Does anyone still have this patch?
