On that note, since I got TactText working on Wine I intend to get Patch Checker and IPSPeek going soon.  I won't have any guarantees for a good while, but I'm going to attempt to get some vague idea about the add-on patch that can be thrown into the .txt files.

Since for the most part this is probably going to be just looking up conflicts with space, I'm pretty sure not much will change but there will be a couple of notes.

EDIT: Rain check on that, this isn't working as well as I had hoped because both need the dreaded dotnet40.

Hi, I'm the coder of IPS Peek. Yeah, unfortunately it is incompatible with Linux due to its reliance on this: ... Other than that, it would pretty much work with Mono. My plan was to eventually support Linux + Mac too, but I had to put my plans on hold (working on a big project at the moment.)

To get it running on Linux, I would either need to:

1. Find a ListView comparable to OLV with Mono support.
2. Completely rewrite IPS Peek in another language or UI technology.

You need to apply the patch using xdelta. There is also a frontend utility that you can try:

Thanks. I am working on a new beta; it should be out next month some time.

I would just like to add that I have just released a portable version of 3.2.0, requiring no install; I know some people don't like installers. It is currently on my website (relevant link).

A checksum repair option would be nice to have.
Yeah, this is something I definitely plan on putting in a future version. I will start on version 4 (a complete rewrite) sometime next year.

So can this be used to extract Sega Genesis.bin or .smd files meaning like the files that were compressed before now you see the game files like e.g scripts, voice samples, titles, sprites, etc... when done so?
It currently has two main functions: the first (primary) is the conversion between SMD, MGD, and binary ROMs. The second is an optional zip compression of each ROM after conversion. I plan on adding more features in the future (when it is rewritten).

It not only changes the extension, but also the file data.

For anyone wondering about the file format differences:  to hack or apply patches to SEGA Genesis ROMs, you may need the format to be binary (.Bin). SMD (Super Magic Drive) and MGD (Multi Game Doctor) are interleaved formats (basically, the bytes are arranged differently from .Bin).

Thank you. Just an update: the next release is scheduled for this coming Monday. It will be Version 3 Beta 3.

Update: it's now Monday, and I have submitted my update. When it's live, tell me what you think:).

PS: if you want to try it now, it is also on my website's download page (first link in my sig).

Special T: I'm nearly complete with the next release. It should solve those problems you are encountering. I should have it out very soon, so look out for an update!

It should be fixed now. I'll include that fix in 3.0b3 (next release)

Hello. I cannot get the latest version to work properly. Originally, it was missing btnPlus1.ocx. Then, after installing an old version, I got this error:

Code: [Select]

Run-time error '429':

Active X component can't create object

After I click OK on the warning, I get this error:

Code: [Select]

Run-time error '372'

Failed to load 'vbaListViewCtl' from vbaListView6.ocx Your version of vbaListView6.ocx may be outdated.
Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application.

I'll have to look into that. btnplus is an old control that was in the 2.x versions. Maybe a reference still exists somewhere. Also, which version of Windows are you using?

Relevant link is 403 forbidden :(

Its possible that your IP range is blocked on the server. I blocked a few small ranges, so maybe yours falls into that range. I'll see if I can fix the range blocking.

Great! Glad to see you're back and working on it.

Thank's. I'll try to get new versions out more frequently in the future :).

I want to add in all sorts of things, such as: displaying ROM header information, checksum generation, and join/split ROMs. Those are just a few ideas, but I want to add as much as I can to the application to make it more useful. In fact, I'm open to any suggestions for features.

I think I will stop with SMD BIN WIN when it reaches 2.0 (non beta). I'm getting bored with it and it seems pretty stable, so I see no real reason to continue updating it. ;D

The reason this will be one of the last versions I will release is because I have upgraded to Visual Studio 2005 and I plan on rewriting it in a .NET language (so you will need the .NET runtime installed, which is around 30 Megs I think) with more features, and turn it into something much better. I want to make it a full featured SEGA genesis tool, not only a converter.

I think the last version of SMD BIN WIN will be 2.0 (non beta). The name of the new software will change, the interface will be improved, and it will finally be able to support Unicode (this was more difficult to do in vb6 [or I was too lazy to implement it ])

I am vectorman. You can call me VM for short. The name comes from the classic SEGA Genesis game of the same name.

I am a computer science student from Ohio. I enjoy playing PC and video games, writing, programming apps, working on my web site, and composing music with FL Studio.

I use XHTML, CSS, C, a little Pascal, a small bit of x86 assembly, Visaul BASIC, Free BASIC, and I'm trying to learn PHP. I have been programming for about 5 years. Most of what I know about programming I have learned on my own
