Newcomer's Board / Re: Replacing music in PSX game (Castlevania SotN)
« on: September 20, 2021, 01:03:29 pm »
The Saturn music is also ADPCM, but it is slightly different than what PSX uses.

VGMStream is capable of decompressing them correctly.

https://github.com/vgmstream/vgmstream

It uses foobar2000, but the source is also there for you to see how it decompresses if you need to.

Here is a list of differences.

Looks like they updated the game code between revisions.

I can write a script later on analyzing this more,  but it looks like most of your monster changes are just pointer changes.  May not be too terrible to support both revisions.

No offense but what is the point of a re-translation to improve upon the original translation for a more faithful rendition, if you don't even know Japanese? That defeats the purpose entirely. I'm glad you put it as improvement and not translation, but as a localization, original text and language learning enthusiast I'm confused.

I get localizing Japanese pop culture that wouldn't be understandable to most westerners but it feels very amateur, like you add FF references as a quick one size fits all fix and. I feel like you should focus on learning some Japanese before tackling a rewrite.

As much as I like his translations, I'm not saying you can't rewrite "Our Lord And Savio(u)r Theodore Woolsey"'s "hard labor", I'm just saying if you're gonna do something like this, at least understand the source language.

You act like there are not a plethora of resources out there that cannot assist in providing a more faithful translation.  You can also understand the meaning behind a language without understanding the actual language itself.  This helps when it comes to working with machine translations.

Oh Jesus lol here we go again. I knew something was wrong from reading the text in those screenshots.
What's with this modern trend in "relocalizing" old games, but just making it up as you go coz you don't know any Japanese, and thinking it sounds better? You end up with a script that's ten times worse than Woolsey/Ireland etc ever did. You're just substituing their cringeworthy jokes and translation errors for your own.

Oh Jesus lol here we go again.  I knew something was wrong from reading the comment starting with Oh Jesus.
What's with this modern trend of "bitching" about relocalizing, but having no actual intent of giving it a try.  You end up looking like an @$$hole that is ten times worse that Woosley/Irelend etc.  You are just crying about something that you are not being forced to use.

Newcomer's Board / Re: Adding headers to NES ROMs for patching
« on: December 16, 2020, 03:41:43 am »
Almost every NES game has the nes header.  Usually if it is .NES. then it will have an iNES header or an iNES 2.0 header.

7
"Young Dracula" makes no sense.  Dracula is constantly revived and comes in many forms.  5 years would not age him.

This image would probably work best to make a portrait out of,  it is the closest I have seen to the style of the other games.

8
All of this talk made me realize something.  I should try to see if I can add the younger portrait when confronting Dracula.

9
It isn't different, it just isn't buttoned in the art.  I guess that would be considered the lapel. The border color being bright makes it hard to see.  Here is a quick edit showing it is pretty much the same.

How do you attach images into the post?  The image tag doesn't work (unless animated gifs aren't supported)

10
I am not seeing a difference.  The Evil Richter version has the collar up hiding his hair.

For that video you sent,  that Richter seems to not  belong in the game.  No idea what it is, but he stands out too much.

OK, I see what you are getting at.

https://www.spriters-resource.com/fullview/114426/

You want the trench coat to be open, showing his white shirt.

11
Not sure I understand,  you have the option of the Rondo of Blood look or the trench coat look.

I do not know what is needed to play this mugen fighter, the download included is missing files.

12
Yeah, that speaking voice gets annoying when you leave your Saturn on while you are developing lol.

I am not sure what is in your patch, but I am finished with the translation.  I am currently adding the voices in.

It's infurating LOL
SAT - PS1

The resolution is also shit. The Konami logo? Fullscreen with great image quality. :banghead:

TrekkiesUnite118 was kind enough to provide better videos, so it will be added.

13
If somebody can create this, I will include it. FMV is the least of my worries right now.

14
There are many things causing the delay, but the large Kanji file (now gone), the high res loading, and the terrible placement of files on the disc causing long seek times are all key components.

15
I doubt the 4MB patch is even needed.

I have already addressed the skipping of movies and text scenes.  Basically you just need to trick the game into thinking you beat the game.  Now personally, I like the idea of extra features when you beat a game, so instead of flagging the game is beat,  I went through all the scenes and just replaced the instruction that gets the game beaten flag with a simple mov #0x1, r#.

The map,  there is plenty of space in VDP2 to have a map like SOTN, not sure why KCEN chose to do it the way they did.

File rearrangement should help with some of the slow loads.

I am also going to switch to a low res screen when entering the menu,  not sure why they chose to pick high res.

Newcomer's Board / Re: PSX Imager

No, changes were made in October 2018 to make bad characters in a directory a warning instead of an error.

It seems there is source that turns illegal characters into warnings.  Could you possibly update your binaries for windows to include the new changes?

18
oh dont worry about it thats fine, people are now willing to help out more now that I shown the PD

Right now im working on a new version of the compressor for more text

and legalize freedom is trying to right a decent help file for my translator.

On a side note, Ive been tinkering around with the other files also in the hopes to make SF3Studios do a lot more then just text

I can do the voices now but I need to add the functions
Working on music

Most importantly trying to crack there image compression so that I can view sprites and what not

Right now I believe its JPEG, but I do not know a lot about this kind of compression, so im trying to do some research on that to see if it can be done

19
the names fine, people just need to read  ;) or perhaps get permission from the source on what should be said lol... that brings back some bad memories, special T what happened you leave SFC or something lol

20
