ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Yearly Translation Patch Data Thread
« on: January 02, 2022, 10:27:36 am »
Surreal to think it's already been a year since Sakura... there's an update pending to fix battle sprites and such, but it's still pending.

If this year brings us Shikigami 2, I'll be a happy camper.

But also, some great gems this year. Seeing P2 finally break its curse in '22 would be really special.

EsperKnight knows GBC pretty well(he worked on the Sailor Moon game), so I'll drop him a line.

Eh, judging from their screenshots, it's still ugly fixed-width text, like the English translation efforts in Nikitak600's videos. And I'll have to find wherever Gemini talked about the remaining issues, but quickly reading through some of that Spanish stuff, they may have brute forced it until it worked.

Talking with the Spanish programmer, he says he'd been working on it for the better part of a year. But hey, playable is playable... I imagine it wouldn't take much work to make fixed width work, though.

Here, I'll quote Nobody directly:

Quote
Eviee and Gemini started this, after Eviee posted her translation for everyone to use them nikita600's started his own tools. I asked him for them on psxplanet and he let me use them
Nikita600's text format it's even different from Geminis
what i did was extract the japanese text directly, size the files, and reach a point where the compilated and compressed file with the translation and the original japanese file were the same size.
It was almost a 1 year work process and i didn't even knew if it were going to work
and after starplayer helped my with the cementery infernal bug, i reduced and balanced the text file sizes and fitted perfectly
It doesn't even have special characters but i'm really proud of the work to be honest
loool

It's worth noting that a Spanish hacker also completed a fully working version using someone else's code.

https://twitter.com/RoyRamker/status/1210208116974985216

He says he used the code from someone named Nikita600, but he hasn't been able to get it published here.

Incidentally, the compiler is still working on cleaning up his release as well.

There was a script released a while back that translated most of the documents and the FMVs, if memory serves, because they decided the rest would be too much work.

Everything's better with Sailor Moon.

Still waiting for a DRPG.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Fixing Last Blade 2's 'translation'?
« on: January 22, 2018, 07:50:22 am »
I know it's not helpful, but I've always wanted to see Last Blade and other classic SNK games retranslated so best of luck

I agree the game really deserves better.

Edit : I just remembered a member named Her Saki translated some NeoGeo games into Spanish less than a year ago. They seem active too. If they don't see this thread, try contacting them.

Thanks, I sent a message. Here's hoping.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Fixing Last Blade 2's 'translation'?
« on: January 19, 2018, 09:06:45 pm »
As some of you may know, Last Blade 2 has a... spotty translation.

Okay, it straight up sucks. Has anyone taken a look at the files to see if patching it is possible? If so, I'm more than happy to(if not desperate to) help edit it, because I think the game deserves better.

Looks really sharp. Is it possible to do something similar for VI?

You know, I've been wondering if WD made any significant changes on the shooters they ported (Elemental Gearbolt, RayStorm, RayCrisis, Thunder Force V).

I know Elemental Gearbolt is hard as ALL HELL on the US version, but Alfa System games aren't exactly easy...

So uh... does anyone have this? I want to try and see if we can hack it to put the fan translation files in. No one elsewhere's been any help.

And the devs actively post at shmups.system11, so I doubt anyone there's gonna suggest much.

It's a real departure from the old one. How do I get to a dark theme? I thought someone said there was one.

You can change it in your profile settings. It's a lifesaver.

So uh, it's out now. :P Honestly not that much different from the beta, apart from having voices(with amazing sound tweaking done contributed by DackR)

Seeing the official release with its typos, grammar errors, and such pained me, so I just had to get this out in the wild. Hopefully you have an enjoy.

I may still add voice files for Shoujo and Fumiko down the line, I have a friend who's taking a crack at it.

Thanks for everyone here who helped it happen!

I would also prefer a darker theme... the main page also seems kind of crowded? But it's definitely more visual, especially with the screens.

Really glad to see this is a thing. My skills aren't up to translating it, sadly, but I'd love to help in any other way I can. I love the first game.

It's out. The translation is solid, but... rough. Like it's badly edited.

Assuming it even WAS edited.

It's very faithful, but not all it should be.

To compare(fan translation):

What's hilarious is they didn't fix the text, like EsperKnight did in our version.

Forced to the left, doesn't use the whole box like it could(and should).

Gaming Discussion / Re: The Silver Case

Is this game a straight visual novel or does it have gameplay/routes?

There's no routes, but every chapter has investigative gameplay, somewhat like Tex Murphy. Don't click the magnifying glass, it's an automatic puzzle solver.

I know.
Also, Suda's vetting doesn't mean much. This is the man that's been doing nothing but that for the past decade.

On a side note, game developers need to be more reverent with how they handle video game remasters. Often times, it feels like their going down a buzz word shopping list and applying it to the game without thinking (1080p, 60fps, widescreen).
The Silver Case PC port is a victim of this shopping list approach.

Still, this is a venture that deserves to be successful. A 16+ year localization of a JP-only PS1 text-heavy adventure game is nothing short of a miracle.

A lot more work went into this, as well. New art was created and high resolution sources were used in addition to the new 3D graphics.
