Gaming Discussion / Re: Chrono Trigger "Envy Hack" Twitch playthrough?
« on: March 15, 2015, 01:42:36 pm »
Yes I recall this hack

So I'm supposed to get the Rusty Blade huh? Like in Secret of Mana.

Hrm. Well, I may try it again.
Yes, exactly like SOM entirely. Except for in method, effect, story, placement, purpose, dialogue, attack power, status, sprites, animation, to whom it may be equipped, leveling up possibility, ability to cut grass, or voices telling you to get it from the stone in the water. So... no? Lol.

It took a couple of weeks to get the broadcast software to work properly for me, but it's up. I have the beginning up on twitch (link in original post) for any interested. Highlights to come.

I enjoyed more the retranslation from the Japanese version. and I do not replay RPGs just because you text changed. But Chrono Trigger is a amazing masterpiece and I want you to play it with the original japanese uncensored text

It's more than just a text hack.

Played it a bit after testing my project. Got to where Crono hops through the portal and I got raped from having 1 hp after a Gato fight. I actually like most of the text changes I saw, a good deal of it's pretty damn funny, though I wish more of it was changed up.

All in all, definately better then my time trying to play Devolution.

THANKS! :D  :woot!:

I... did not know this existed. Seems I have a hack to try out.

I hope you enjoy! If you get offended, sorry. If things get too difficult to start, get the rusty blade. :D

Gaming Discussion / Chrono Trigger "Envy Hack" Twitch playthrough?

I've posted a copy of the news article that is still in submission below.
http://www.twitch.tv/topcat55
http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1194/

As stated in the article, I'd love some feedback after 2 years and over 12 hundred downloads. Did people get past the shitty shittiness of the dialogue changes to enjoy the rest? Did anyone enjoy my shitty jokes, references, reinterpretations, etc?

Thanks to all those that have took the time to download and play! :D

"The author will be doing a playthrough of this hack that he made a couple of years ago. There were mixed reviews with a lot of negative feedback based on difficulty early on. These mostly came from people that were offended by the dialogue so they did not bother to get the Rusty Blade from Melchoir. Oh well. Though it is admitted it does take too much grinding to get the money for it, The author was not able to further edit the project after the final release, and did not want to do it all over again. It's not a perfect hack, but it is a full one and, in my opinion, one of the better and more in depth available.

The author noticed that, as of this article, there are 1,277 downloads. WOW! The author never thought that so many people would play this game! The author would love to know how many enjoyed it! Any feedback after these 2 years would be awesome.

Anyway, The author will be playing this on Twitch, so any and all aspects can be seen. I'd love for folks to join me. This will show that the increase in difficulty is in fact slight, it just doesn't allow for speed runs or minimal playthrough. One must actually PLAY Chrono Trigger, as if it were the first time. No playing on auto pilot like so many of us cult fanatics have come to do after almost 2 decades of replay.

A link to the channel is provided in relevant link (under the article) and the project page (somewhere) for those with any interest."

Ps.... I don't suppose there have been any temporal flux tutorials created???????????? <3

It is not likely that I will be willing to go back into the text editor and do anything with it again. That was the most tedious aspect of the project, and it inserts text bugs into the game. If I find some motivation, then maybe...

I will weigh all of this out in my head & move forward from there. At the very least I will make a patch w/ the difficulty and item changes.

*** I went to reload the original game text into the hack, as to keep the items and perameters without the "offensive" shit in it. It became unplayable, freezing right away. Due to the nature of these programs, text requiring a header and editor companion removing it, I will not be able to make any changes without redoing everything. As I am not willing to do that, there will not be any edits or other releases. If you don't like it, don't play it. If you want to check out the items, then deal with a mind unlike your own and suffer through my vulgarity.***
This hack is what it is.

Lmao!

ok, so it seems that this has not been too well recieved. :(

To start, commenting on the difficulty:
In the beginning, grind to get the rusty blade from melchoir. It has status effects that eliminate the difficulty and keep it a good weapon option through much of the game. Also, the avian chaos drops a seraph song that ups your pwr peramater by 6, as well as recovers 5mp and start you with a full battle guage at the beginning of a battle. Explore a little and want to get that new sword at the beginning, and those whiney... i mean criticisms become invalid. We have all likely play CT so many times that we fall into a mechanical pattern of how we do so, this is meant to break that cycle just a little bit. sorry if it's "work" to play this game with a new attitude.

for the dialogue:
as it was put here, there may have been a bit much, for some. i like cuss words, or swears if you come from a higher income bracket. some things did not flow as well as others. that is regrettable, but i stand by it.
As for Taban saying something about Lucas inventions, that is a glitch in the text editor. A few more areas have that, where a text box is replaces with another text box, and there is nothing that can be done. I caught a few & listed them in the readme, this one I missed.
Any text/spelling/grammer errors, well nobody is perfect & i caught as many as i could. I'm very done with this project & being the most tedius part of it, the text is what it is.

I appreciate the positive sentiments & the support where they came in. I can and will make another patch with the games original dialogue but the items and parameters will be changed. If the game comes across as too difficult, then play better! The updated weapons and armor make it necessary, or the game would be entirely too easy. In the clean version, there will again, be NO changes in dialogue so nobody will refer to the hidden items.

And as for instructions, i applied the patch to a headered rom and had no problems. If anybody followed common knowledge that is available to be read in getting started areas, they should be fine. I didnt think that there would be a neccessity, my bad... I will note that someone had trouble applying the patch & try to remember to mention aplying it to an unheadered rom.

That covers about everything, I think. I will put up a hack minus text edits soonish. The items alone do warrent a hack and can be shared with those that dont like my potty mouth.

Sir, all you had to do was read the submission guidelines at the top of the submission form. Or, you could have clicked the help icon next to the file field. Either of those would provide you with a page with our recommendations... Please do not submit anything to us without having read the guidelines.

http://www.romhacking.net/?page=help&action=additionalhelp

those ? tiles did not open correctly on my mobile device, and none pf the newbie pages i read made any mention of any  file hosts.
i overlooked the link in the guidelines. i thought it was in regards to reccomended formats.

thanks, i will try again.

well, idk wtf. dropbox will only be mobile for me & doesnt have any extra options for link generation. when i tried it yesterday there were 4 links to copy, none of them worked.

tried the other 2 reccommendations in the link on the submission form. zebucket seemed to be working ut only for half of the files. got the following messages, even though they link directly to the files as they should.

 1. The value 'www.bwass.org/bucket/Chrono%20Trigger
%20Envy%20Hack_00005.png' is not a valid URL. It MUST be a
full URL!
2. 'www.bwass.org/bucket/Chrono Trigger Envy
Hack_00005.png' is not responding or is an invalid image file!
3. The value 'www.bwass.org/bucket/Chrono%20Trigger%20-
%20Envy%20Hack.rar' is not a valid URL. It MUST be a full
URL!

stuck and starting to lose interest due to frustration. if anybody has any suggestions or interest in direct sending im open to it. otherwise im done trying for a while. i dont get to a wifi spot often & im ready to slam my phone against a wall.

thanks for the advce & interest for whom it applies. i hope i can get this thing up. its worth a playthrough.

mine didnt. i got a message saying the url has to end in .rar or .png

the files in the links did end in these extensions, but the links did not, and adding it to the links only lead to an error page.

so what filehosts do you guys use? lol. I'd really like to share this and get some feedback, maybe get a little cred so folks might be willing to do a little teaching of more advanced utilities like temporal flux.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Chrono Trigger - Envy Hack

Greetings to the rom hacking community. i was here several years ago trying, to no avail to learn how to use Temporal Flux. i still wish to do this, and will need a lot of insight. but that is for later.

the purpose of this post is for the rom hack that i have just completed. I changed up a lot in Chrono Trigger via the text editor and editor companion. I wish to release this to share on this site.

What i am asking fellow members, is what file/image hosts are best to use for submissions. I am a noob to every aspect of this.

Thanks,
Tim

I tried linking my dropbox on the submissions page but it didn't work. adding .rar & .png to the links would make them lead to an error page, not to the files. Anybody know how to make it work with dropbox? I'm limited to frustrating mobile internet right now & want to keep this simple.
