I'm not sure if you got my DM, but just in case you were peeking at the forum more, we have some extra projects sitting around for Playstation and the like. If you're interested in a smaller script, feel free to send a DM and I'll see what we're sitting on in certain genres!

Hi there!

Actually, if you're looking for a game like Omakase Savers for the Sega Saturn (not 16 bit right? but whatever), I have a script rip sitting around for that that I frankly haven't had time to even touch. The rip is by Esperknight, who hasn't had time to work on the hack for it either, but if you'd like to stab at that, DM me and we can get it over to you.

Hello!

A friend just sent me this, but I'm a big fan of Shaman King!

Actually, I also have a very crude translation draft for the entire storyline https://doushiuhohtranslations.wordpress.com/category/shaman-king-spirit-of-shamans/. I'd be happy to work with you on polishing it up for this project! If you're interested, send me a DM and we can chat further on it.

Hi Cargodin! I would like to join that project if it's still possible. I have sent you a DM.  :woot!:

I'm sorry for the late reply to this! I've responded with a DM as well.

As an update for the project, the OP of this thread had to leave, but we're still looking for Japanese -> English translators with a proven track record who can help out with the story text. (I've unfortunately been hit with a family emergency that has considerably tanked my ability to be online.) If anyone is interested in helping with the translation, feel free to DM me and we can get talking.

Hi there!

So, this is kind of a random question, but our group has made some on-and-off musings about English patching Dog of Bay (Rough draft translation here.)

The big stickler though is that the lyrics to the songs are particularly important to the story and the themes of the game. Do you have experience with recreating background music for vocal songs like the ones here?

I know it's an unrealistic project due to the scope of covering 11 freakin' songs, but as someone who does music, what would be some resources you'd recommend for someone trying to gauge interest in the game music and cover-singing communities, if there are such resources? (I'd also be wary about proposing a big project like this when it's a fan project and obviously I don't have the kind of money to move around in that situation to justify asking anyone, but what are your thoughts on it from a musician's POV?) Is this the kind of project you or someone you know might be interested in?

Sorry for the questions and novella, but thank you for reading it!

In this case it's not RPG at all (I know there is no EXP or level there). It's an adventure with puzzle elements.

I think this misconception stems from the developers calling it an RPG in Japanese press of the game.

You do (sort of) control levels of three different evils that act sort of like the overloading bar in Galerians or Dragon Counter in BOFV Dragon Quarter. If you don't keep the levels under control, you can get a game over from any one of them maxing out. However, it's particularly hard and time-consuming to even do this, so the whole feature goes largely unnoticed unless players go out of their way to max out.

There are very few rewards for dogging the evil meters, but controlling the evil meters to manage which characters appear when and where does give extra layers to the game's story, and might give some players a little replay value. To that end, it could count as an RPG.

Yeah I'm about to sit down and play a few hours tonight. I'll see if I can grab a screenshot if it happens again or I think there was one that happened pretty close to the beginning so I may just go back and try try and trigger that one. I read the note about it being an emulator killer and it being playable on mednafen which is why I was using the beetle-psx core as its a port/fork of mednafen for retroarch. But yeah I'll try and update later with some screenshots..

edit.. had it happen right after you land on mars.. heres some shots. first set is no shaders, second set is heavy shaders. ( I was testing to see if shaders caused it)

Oh  :-X
So uh...these might very well be your setup or how you're running the game somehow. I have never seen it get this bananas, and other streamers covering this particular scene aren't running into this either. If you can, you might want to experiment with this one on a pc woth different emulators to see what clicks best.

This is a strange game, I've never played anything quite like it. its a very trippy confusing story but I like it so far, I'm about 6 hours deep right now. The game seems fully playable but I have notice some cut scenes that place new text directly over old text that seems like it should of cleared but you can still make out what it says and it doesn't crash the game or anything. I'm using the beetle psx core in batocera 33, I think I've noticed it happen about 3 times. Other than that its been smooth sailing.

Hi there! Thanks for leaving feedback like this. I have straight up not seen something like that in the patch, but it also doesn't sound like an emulation issue. Can you provide screencaps or descriptions of the scenes if you remember and/or next time you see it?

Thank you for taking the time to play!

Is it classical turn-based JRPG + some survival horror atmosphere? Like Parasite Eve 1. Looks intriguing.

It's a lot closer to an adventure game or a vn than a JRPG or survival horror. It prioritizes the text-heavy story over any intensive party management or stressful combat systems. The battle system is closer to pong with a health bar. I hope that helps!

Congratulations! Another obscure game is now available for everyone! Thanks a lot all those involved in this project and future ones like Linda Cube, etc.

Thanks so much! Esperknight, Mr. Nobody and I hope everyone enjoys Planet Laika. It'll be nice catching a breather now that it's out.  :)

I'm glad people are playing Planet Laika and having fun! I'm tuning into some streams and making little fixes and tweaks, so we might have an update later in the week that adds that extra polish. Thank you everyone who has picked it up so far!

Hooray! And Planet Laika is out!

Oh my god, this looks fantastic. Very well done, because your hard work shows!
Really excited for the release of this very charming game!

Updated the roster of current projects. Planet Laika is open to testplaying to help us hammer out the remaining crude corners in the English patch. Not sure if a Christmas release is gonna happen, but we'll be extremely close by that time all the same.

Hi there! I'd be happy to take a look at Rent A Hero's text for you! I'm a hobbyist fan translator, and I'm currently looking for something to proofread and edit to keep myself busy while hacking is underway. If you're interested, send me a DM!

Heavily updated my list. I usually keep pictures at least once a week on my twitter as it's kind of a pain to link stuff all the time, but things are scooting along still.

hi! i just wanted to express my fond interest in what i've managed to piece together about this game and hope that one day you are able to make this project a reality. you are seriously the best cargodin and whenever i learn about a jp-only game that piques my curiosity 50% of the time you've done some translation work on it. hope all is well :)

Wow, I'm really sorry for the late reply to this, but I'm really touched by your kindness. Thank you!! I'm doing well on projects at the moment so hopefully have more to show for those very soon! I've actually been wanting to replay Reveal Fantasia sometime so it'll be good homework for me.

Update:
While it's quoted elsewhere and I won't ask for it to be deleted, I'm editing this post. I got a ping from a mod that it wasn't an attitude fit for the board, amd I agree with them. (Thank you for the kind sentiment though, aqualung  :cookie:)

Help Wanted Ads / Re: Kowloons Gate
November 25, 2020, 06:11:31 PM
Hello! (I'll reply in the forum and dm also)

I've got a transcription of the full (or 99% full) game text and audio-only dialogue from the webarchive, and I've made a lexicon dictionary with a few hundred entries to work with as I translate for funsies. That said, I've been chatting on and off with a friend about hacking it.

If you're interested in collaborating on the Kowloon's Gate translation, hit me up in dm and we can take it to discord or email.  :woot!:

This. The first thing makes the memo unusable. It seems to load fine when I first load the game from VMU, but any time after that and all the text disappears except for random times the memo will be correctly populated with useful checklists and stuff. Quite annoying.

(Edit: It is entirely possible that this is an emulator issue that can be fixed.)

I'm still playing through it and I love the game/translation overall, but it is definitely not a full translation. I imagine the memo bug may be CDI related as it's a hacked format created by removing data from the image to make it fit on a CD. I will echo the sentiment of others here; there should be a way to patch GDI versions of this game. Also, dragging a CDI onto the patcher doesn't work for me at all and no GDI version exists. It's about time we got rid of the hacky CDI formats really especially with translated games.

Thanks for pointing these out! I've been watching people play on streams, and I haven't seen all* of those issues, but I'm very aware of certain fixes that need to be made. Something that happens on and off between patches is that, at times, not all of the documents will swap properly. It's been the finicky nature of Esper's reinsertion tools, but I'm putting together a list of instances where that's going on. (For example, Kiye's Great Bridge should be Klein's Great Bridge in the final draft--> think Klein bottles). The pamera room also didn't swap properly, but I can assure that the text is 100% translated and ready to go.
Simply a technical issue that's been a pain in the butt for all involved. :-\

Still, glad you're enjoying it! Everyone's been a bit busy lately, but hopefully when the new year rolls in we can pick back up and provide a GDI patch.
