Recently I found about this nifty little tool
, which lets you add painlessly your selected rom collection to steam, grabbing grid images from websites, which for big picture+controller users like me comes damn handy. You have to manually add your console+emulator combo to its config files, but its rather simple to do and its rather flexible enough (you can easily swap between emulators for a given console by just editing a reference and running the tool again). I use it in combination of retroarch (for the most part) for a full couch gaming experience.
The tool is far from perfect: currently it only supports fetching images from consolegrid.com or any other site that just happens to have exactly the same undocumented api, and if a console you want to add is not listed there, ice throws a fatal exception and interrupts the process (for the time being avoid adding virtual vboy and the like). And consolegrid urrently can only find games based on the exact filename (sans extension), and the games are listed there usually without no-intro suffixes (eg MarioBros (US).zip has to be renamed as MarioBros.zip for console grid to find its image, and lets not talk about mame naming scheme being like totally incompatible so far). Despite this, I have greatly enjoyed the convenience it provdes, and i wanted to share my joy to you guys.
