Gaming Discussion / Best/Worst game(s) from 2018
« on: December 19, 2018, 09:53:57 pm »
Since 2019 is coming in two weeks as of this writing, I supposed we should share our opinions. The title is self-explanatory.

For you, what was the best and/or worst game from this year? Mine is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for best and Fallout 76 for worst.

Gaming Discussion / Youtube taking down game-hacking channels.
« on: November 10, 2018, 10:04:33 pm »
Hey guys. This is bad news.

Recently Youtube have been hunting down some channels about hacking/moding/cheats/whatever. I can confirm they took down
Kaze's channel (the guy who makes SM64 mods).

Relevant link:

IMO, hacking/cheating is basically the same, but modding is different and to my knowledge, it doesn't infringe upon copyright since it only brings the mod files and not a pirated copy of a game (at least most of the time).

Gaming Discussion / Pokemon Essencials bites the dust due to DMCA.

I love Nintendo, but I hate when they do this.

Understandable, they are the IP owners, but it's kinda unfair that (excuse me for the strong language) those bastards take down Fan tributes that make no money from it at all. Of course, if they were using ads, then Nintendo would've been obviously taking action. But what if the fangame in question was making no money at all (no ads)?

Sorry for the long rant, but Nintendo needs to respect it's fans better. As long as they are no making money out of it, fangames and the like are fine IMO.

P.S.: Hey Isao, saw your comment and made the topic myself.

It's been a while....

Hello, fellow romhackers, with the recent annoucement of Undertale coming for Nintendo Switch, I was wondering if more indie games could come to the hybrid console.

I'd like Starbound and Iconoclasts to come to Switch.

And what's yours?

Gaming Discussion / Nintendo Labo

You probably heard about it, didn't you?

Looks like Nintendo did it again, cardboard for gaming might be a good idea for recycling.

What do you think about this? It's a good idea? You can vote on the poll or leave your opinion here. To tell the truth, I'm neutral about this. Time will tell if I'm liking this when it releases.

Gaming Discussion / NESMaker
« on: January 16, 2018, 10:31:20 pm »

Now this is interesing....

First with Super Mario Maker, then Mega Man Maker, and now the NES? At least indie developers can create NES games with no problem at all.

It's in japanese, but many of us played though that game many times it shouldn't be a issue anyway.

Graphically, it looks like the GBA version (with FFRK sprites for the battles), but plays similar to the old NES version (the invisible lady of Cornelia even appears here!).

A good tribute to not only the game that started it all, but the entire Final Fantasy series in general.

Happy 30th anniversary Final Fantasy! May the fantasy never end!

Gaming Discussion / What games have you bought for christmas?
« on: December 24, 2017, 11:35:44 pm »
Happy holidays! This is just a question I wanted to ask everybody.

If you ask me, I bought Undertale on Steam and a SNES Mini (yes, they restocked).

Now I'm afraid about the future....

For me, there's no reason to go 100% digital, many people (like me) still buy physical copies of games. I believe both digital and physical games can co-exist together.

Gaming Discussion / If there ever was a N64 mini.....
« on: September 06, 2017, 03:11:59 am »
.....would you think hackers could reverse engineer the emulator to improve the N64 emu scene?

If you ask me, they could.

Gaming Discussion / Sonic Mania Thread
« on: August 17, 2017, 09:49:59 pm »
It's finally out! Surely this game will help clean the blue hedgehog's reputation along with Sonic Forces.

It's a shame they delayed the PC version, but it's OK. I can wait a little longer to try this masterpiece.

What do you think about the game, guys?

Gaming Discussion / Hey Flashcart users, check this out.
« on: August 05, 2017, 09:42:37 pm »

I've had no idea about that! Thankfully, the article (and the video) name the safe everdrives and the ones to avoid.
The everdrives for the N64 and GBA respectively already run on 3.3v systems, so they aren't listed.

Gaming Discussion / Smash Bros clone announced

The guys behind Project M showcase their game "inspired" on Smash Bros.(particulary Melee):

It's still in pre-alpha, so I guess it's gonna change.

Newcomer's Board / Some hack ideas for FF1 NES.
« on: May 24, 2017, 04:58:11 pm »
While checking the disassembly of the ROM file, I was thinking about giving some of these hacks and enhancements:

  • If the thief/ninja lands a critical hit, he gains gold based on the strength of the attack (akin to stealing).
  • An auto-target patch(Yes, you heard me). To tell the truth, not many people like ineffective attacks, despite it giving a strategic aspect to battles.
  • When entering a location(castle, town, dungeon, etc.), the name of the place in question should be shown at the top of the screen (like later titles in the series).
  • The ability to use LIFE(Raise), LIF2(Arise), SOFT(Stona) and SOFT Potions(Gold needles) in battle, because why not. Plus it infuriates me having to restart the Ice cave if at least one party member gets either killed or petrified.

What do you think guys? Do you agree with some of my ideas? Any criticism is welcome.

Gaming Discussion / Game Breakers
« on: April 15, 2017, 01:08:35 am »
These are the most overpowered weapons, abilities, characters, items, tactics, etc. in gaming history.
They're best know for utterly shatter the difficulty of a game, making it too easy.

I know some examples, like Assassins in FFTA, the hammer suit in SMB3, Meta Knight in SSBB, Orlandu in FFT, the cape in SMW, among others.

And yours? Do you know some Game Breakers that I don't? Feel free to share your opinion.

Newcomer's Board / Help with Grond's Final Fantasy
« on: March 23, 2017, 10:57:22 pm »
I wanted to edit the graphics for this hack for personal use, such as giving a new sprite for the White Mage (and the White Wizard). However, while her battle sprites look as intended, her overworld sprite looks as this:
How do I make her hair color and the trims on her robe look red instead of white?
Same for the White Wizard (her hair color displays correctly, but the trims are white instead of red).
I've tried using FFHackster by the way.

P.D.: Grond, if you are looking at this, I'm asking for permission to modify the graphics on your hack for personal purpose only. I'm not going to submit this, but any help from your part would be appreciated!
EDIT: Since nobody can't see the images, I'll just add hyperlinks to imgur.

Here we'll discuss the games on the Super Smash Bros. series (from 64 to SSB4 onward).
Fangames and mods also count (SSF2, SSBC, Project M, etc.).
