ROM Hacking Discussion / PC-98 Games
« on: December 01, 2015, 11:58:25 am »
Does anyone here know how to hack and insert text for PC-98 games?  :banghead: I want to translate Dead of the Brain but I've no clue on the technical aspects of hacking the system. It'd be much easier if somebody could show me how or at least help out a little. Anyone? It's been on my bucket list since early this year so I'd like to get around to it sooner or later.

I'm in need of some help to correctly recognise the characters from the images below. I had a Japanese friend of mine recognise the ones I couldn't before but he's busy at the moment. Anyhow, I know these scans are not in great quality, but if you could be so kind as to help me out, then just try your best to recognise the characters. I can handle translating so there's no need to worry about that.

I've been having trouble trying to correctly translate this specific line, so I was wondering if any of you guys would know what it says. Could someone take a crack at it? I'd really appreciate it.

Does anyone here know how to extract arc files on Dreamcast discs? I need to know how so I can compress the sound/voices files for a game. Any help?

ROM Hacking Discussion / Text Pointers: Script Extracting and Inserting
« on: January 27, 2015, 04:35:08 pm »
It's been a long time since I've done anything related to this sort and my memory is really fuzzy. That said, I already know Cartographer and Atlas are the main ones used, but are there any which aren't command prompt and easy to use? Although I'll learn if I have to, but I'd like some help on that first. And I know I could search, but I prefer to hear from people directly on which to use. Anyway, what I want to do is extract the script from Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ayanami Raising Project on the Dreamcast and change the text pointers so I can add new text screens, since it runs off screen most of the time. Is that possible with Cartographer and Atlas or would other programs be needed for a Dreamcast game?

Anyway, I found where the games text is stored and which file with help from a friend, and it appears 100% fine when shifted to JIS.

Here's also a few JP lines from the script at the start of the game, I'd really appreciate help with this. I've already translated the game on the DS, and recently, the Dreamcast community asked me to traverse that into the Dreamcast version so only extraction, insertion, and changing text pointers is necessary.

I'm very unsure on what this say's and neither does the internet at large. Although, the least I know is that it's something related to jujitsu, I think. Could someone help me out here?

Script Help and Language Discussion / Japanese Military Code of sorts
« on: October 24, 2014, 01:59:16 pm »
Even my translator didn't know what this is, do any of you guys have a clue what it say's because I'm stumped. It's at the top of a military document in a game I'm translating, followed by the date and then it's contents. I'm unsure if any of you would know but help would be appreciated, thanks.

Since I've sorta started a new translation, with a translator I might add, I should create a topic to centralize all my projects.

My new translation and again I'm working with Kiiri from moddb, the game is El Dorado Gate on the Dreamcast. I started a topic on theisozone and from that, got help from YBZ who found me a starting hex and then I gathered the hex's and managed to make some changes. That being said, I can only work as fast as my translator does his thing which is really slow. He used to be much faster but this is a side project so I really don't mind.

ROM Hacking Discussion / El Dorado Gate Hacking
« on: September 08, 2014, 04:37:10 pm »
I'm interested in translating El Dorado Gate but the text is compressed or encrypted in a way, guys on theisozone said they had no luck when they tried but maybe someone here may know. Just checking though, no matter now unlikely. Im guessing the text is in the scene folders and files, they are in tlp format if that means anything. Hacking and stuff isn't my strong suit and I know asking isn't going to get me much anywhere but I like to keep my hopes up. Can someone help me out here.

Here's a few of the files, sorry if this seems like a bother.

If you want to develop stockholm syndrome then this game is perfect for you, all jokes set aside this is my next project and again anime related. I was really disappointed to notice that this game went untranslated for this long, you'd think fans of Evangelion would have gotten together and did something about it. Anyhow I have taken it upon myself to do it, it will take a while due to it's length and replayability but I'll get there eventually.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Hacking and Translating Nintendo DS Games
« on: May 03, 2014, 05:46:30 pm »
Sorry for creating topics every now and then but I just want to gather information about various systems that I may be interested in translating games for in the future. I remember people saying that DS games are easier to translate than other systems, I am just wondering how so. Also is the general process of translating much different than Game Boy or Game Gear games and can you relative search to find text, thanks guys.

ROM Hacking Discussion / PC Video Game Hacking and Translating
« on: April 30, 2014, 05:25:12 pm »
I hope running 2 topics at the same time isn't bothering anyone, anyway I was wondering about PC game Hacking and Translating. How do people generally go about doing that, also how much different is it from console and handheld games. Im interested into translating a PC game or two in the future and am wondering about the process.

I really need help here, could you guys help me find the hex's. I know this isn't a topic people want to see but just trust me for a moment, I just need someone to find me an offset or some of the hex's of the games text because from that I'll be able to gather the rest of them and be able to implement the translation. Im having trouble trying to find out any of the hex's so I need your help, I want to translate this game and yes it's another anime based one. It's a dating sim and I know translating it will take forever but im really dedicated and will finish it even it it takes over a year. Please help me out, you can get the game here.
LINK REMOVED

I'll owe you a favor or something, here are some pics from the game. I tried searching for the R&D text but got over 11,000 thousand results, scary stuff.

I have used windhex and relative searched to try and find some hex's to start me off so I can then build the table for the game, so far I haven't been having any luck. I used this method for The Missing Colors and Making of Magic Knight but for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on the Sega Saturn this hasn't worked, mostly due to the game having multiple types of fonts. I need help to start me off so would any of you guys know how to find out the hex's for a game like this, im really puzzled since my usual trick didn't work so please help me out. I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

My next translation again working alongside my buddy Kiiri, the aim of this one is to train the Magic Knights for 50 days to face the invading armies and to find the pillar. Im glad this one is actually based on the second season as none of the other games are which disappointed me alot because....... no Nova (Probably isn't in this one either :'(). Anyhow I'll make a release when a playable portion of the game is translated just like what im currently doing for the missing colors. I hope people will become interested as I want people to be involved and talk to one another about how the translation is going and stuff along those lines, anyhow thanks for reading and be on the lookout for this in the near future.

I finally got through the first couple of screens, it took me a while to figure out the differences in the code on how the characters were layed out as some of the Kanji didn't just have a two digit hex to represent it ingame. They had FF 05 1B and this inserted one character while mostly everything else does it like this 5B, there was that and a ton of other problems I faced but after today I got them all sorted out while is good. I will explain more in detail tomorrow but for now I want to know what you think.

ROM Hacking Discussion / SEGA Gamegear Translating
« on: March 16, 2014, 05:53:40 pm »
Is the process any different for games of the gamegear, I used relative search and found the location of the CLAMP letters like how Scio showed me for the 2nd Rayearth game for the gameboy. I changed the letters but when I loaded up the game the letters stayed the same, I probably didn't find the right place where it was so I need to find the letters and then I can build a table of the kana and the english text so some help please. I need to find a piece of english text and then build the table of english, then go up and down and change the clamp to what's next in the table and then find out the hex's for the kana. From that I will be able to find the games text and then start translating. I could use a tile viewer to help me out but sadly I couldn't find any that worked for the gamegear.

The CLAMP text or any English text that's on this screen as from that I'll be able to build a table from the location of them, I really need help here.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Text Pointers

Can you guys help me out here, im kinda confused on how to go about extending the text so I can fit in more words. It says that for example you add to the offset but how would you do that, im looking around and can't seem to find how to do it.

My first translation working alongside my buddy Kiiri, the aim of this game is to bring back the colors of Cefiro stolen by the color thief. The story starts after the events of the first story arc but doesn't follow the second but instead creates it's own story which is both good and bad. This translation will be released periodically when the translation reaches certain stages as set below.

1.The Blue Tower
2.The Green Fortress
3.The Red Castle
4.The Complete Translation

I am translating Magic Knight Rayearth 2nd: The Missing Colors with help from a friend, I am currently collecting the hex's for the Japanese kanji and have thus far got the first two screens in English. I had to shorten it down to fit in the English words though but it's all good, I'll update this when more is done but what do you guys think.
