Programming / Command-line IPS generator for Windows?
« on: January 04, 2015, 06:05:37 pm »
Is there a command-line .ips patch generator like there is for .xdelta?  I like building my projects as makefiles or batch scripts, and would like to build the patch file as one of the steps automatically instead of involving manual clicking.

What should I submit as a screenshot for my Rockman X2 speedrunner practice edition?  The only things graphically different are the copyright notice at boot and the title screen's menu options.  The ROM hack is meant to be useful, not look pretty =)

ROM Hacking Discussion / Practice ROMs for speedrunners
« on: December 26, 2014, 02:54:17 am »
Recently, like in the last week, I made a practice ROM for Rockman X1 speedrunners.  It's a hacked X1 ROM that has some changes in order to assist speedrunners in practicing for their events:

  • Game goes immediately to stage select.
  • Infinite lives.
  • Can always use Escape.U.
  • Stage select lets you select the four Sigma levels via corners.
  • When you choose a level, your items are set to what you should have for that level according to the typical "100% waterful" route.  Sigma levels give Hadouken accordingly.

You can see why speedrunners would like this for practicing...  I think it's an interesting ROM hacking type that I haven't seen before.  I'm not a speedrunner, least of all not for Rockman games.  I like to try speed runs of Triforce of the Gods 2 (A Link Between Worlds), but I suck at it =)

By the way, I think that me having the "Newbie" label here is quite ironic... =)

ROM Hacking Discussion / Zelda Parallel Worlds title screen corruption
« on: February 15, 2014, 12:42:39 pm »
When I run Zelda Parallel Worlds on my SNES, the title screen is corrupted.  Was there ever any research into why that is?  I feel like this and some other bugs in the game could be fixed by a reverse engineer.

ROM Hacking Discussion / LoROMs larger than 2 MB
« on: January 12, 2013, 04:33:55 pm »
How do LoROMs larger than 2 MB, such as Super Metroid, work?  I need to expand a 1.5 MB LoROM game to 2.5 MB.

Where does the extra data go in the CPU memory map, and how does the mapping of the ROM file to CPU space work?
