Gaming Discussion / Bushi Seiryuuden translation freeze
« on: March 20, 2021, 01:31:00 am »
I was playing Bushi Seiryuuden with Tom and DDS's translation and the game froze after crossing the bridge to the north of where you fight the Demon Mushroom. I was playing the game on my SD2SNES, and when I loaded my save on SNES9X, it worked fine. There's a cutscene during the transition, then chapter 2 starts normally. On the SD2SNES, it freezes before the cutscene.

The freeze doesn't happen before chapters 3 or 4, so it seems to be something specific to that part. I haven't beaten the game yet, so there's still chance it'll freeze again at some other point, but so far the translation is top notch quality, outside that one problem.

I sent Tom a private message on RHDN forums, but he hasn't been active here for like two weeks, so I don't know how long it'll take him to read it. Maybe someone here can contact him outside these forums and let him know about the bug more quickly. Also, I don't know if him or DDS will keep supporting the patch, but I still thought it'd be good to let people know.

Gaming Discussion / Help with GB Heracles no Eikou
« on: November 30, 2020, 10:31:35 pm »
I've been playing Herakles no Eikou on my Gameboy everdrive and I ran into a weird problem. I got killed in the first tower of the game and got sent back to the first town. I saved my game and turned it off. However, when I got back to it, I couldn't open the door leading to the tower I died on, because I didn't have the key that opens that door. It was then that I realized my 2 key items were gone, both the key and something else I got from the tower. I have no idea how to proceed now. Has anyone run into that problem? Any ideas that could help me?

Gaming Discussion / Running away in Emerald Dragon
« on: April 01, 2016, 05:09:51 pm »
Hi guys, I have a doubt about Emerald Dragon for SNES. I've been playing it for a while and it's pretty fun! :)
I've come across a situation when I try to run away from a battle, a text box appears and it gives me two choices. The first one allows me to run away normally and the second makes all enemies disappear, and I get the EXP and gold, as if I beat all the enemies. The problem is that the text and the options are gibberish, so I have no idea what's going on.
Now that option stopped appearing and I have no idea why. I thought maybe it was because I was fighting stronger enemies, but it won't work even with weaker enemies. Does anyone know what are those options and how to make them available? Maybe the people who translated the game would know.

EDIT: I've found out! That option triggers when you've opened the debug menu for the first time (Hold Start, then press R + L). The effect will run out when you restart the game. Too bad, I thought it was just like Earthbound, where when you get too strong, you can just beat enemies without fighting them in battle. :|

Personal Projects / Phantasy Star 4 Editor
« on: March 14, 2016, 02:45:13 am »
This is a simple editor for some data in Phantasy Star 4 for Genesis. For now, you can edit most of monster information and skills used both by players and enemies. In the future, I may add new features like editing characters, shops and stuff.

WARNING: Make sure you keep a backup of your game, because it can be quite easy messing up the game if you assign wrong options to the enemy AI or how skills work. Other issues may also occur, so I'm not responsible to what happens with your game. :)

If you have any problems or questions, e-mail me: jagmotta@gmail.com

Have fun!

Personal Projects / Simple Breath of Fire 2 Monster Editor
« on: February 23, 2016, 11:23:09 pm »
Hi guys,

while I was playing the BoF2 retranslation, I came up with the idea of making an editor because I wanted enemies to give 2x exp and zenny. So, I decided to share it with all of you guys. It must be used with a headerless ROM. Also, the editor should work with both regular BoF2 rom, and Ryusui retranslataion. However, if you use the retranslation, the enemy list will look a little weird. But if you can't figure out the enemy names, the list follows the same order as the enemy list in this document: http://www.gamefaqs.com/snes/563530-breath-of-fire-ii/faqs/5434
It's a quick and dirty editor, but it does what I wanted. :)

I've also included the editor source code in the file, in case anyone is interested.

Personal Projects / 7th Saga Rom Editor
« on: September 23, 2015, 12:19:57 am »
Hi, for the last few days, I've been working on this tool to edit 7th Saga rom data... so, here you go. :)

https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1148/

There may be some bugs and stuff, so feedback is appreciated.

You can edit many things with it: characters, monsters, items, equipment etc. At the moment, you can't edit names... I was just lazy to implement that for now :P

I'd like to thank Dr. Fail for providing the ROM data which I used to make this :)

Gaming Discussion / Dark Half help
« on: August 29, 2015, 03:27:56 pm »
I've been playing Dark Half for the past two days and it's pretty fun! But I'm kinda confused about my main characters attacking twice in a turn. Not that I'm complaining, I just want to know what makes him do that? Is there a hidden stat for that? Or is it a weapon property?

Gaming Discussion / An article on the official localization process
« on: October 04, 2013, 03:40:35 pm »
This is an interesting article where a XSEED production assistant tells how the localization process takes place. It's an interesting read, specially if you have no experience in the area (like me). Now, I understand a little more the hard work some of you guys have to do when translating games. =)

Gaming Discussion / Translated games sales
« on: May 13, 2013, 10:31:12 pm »
I think I've seen a discussion here (or somewhere else) about some sites selling games translated by the people around here, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, I just wanted to post this:

Gaming Discussion / Donkey Kong Hack X Feminism
« on: March 11, 2013, 04:12:41 pm »
Have you people read about this?

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2013/03/donkey-kong-pauline-hack/

It's about a father who hacked the Donkey Kong game so that his 3 year old daughter could play as Pauline and save Mario.
It's interesting how what I believe to be a relatively simple romhack (for this community's standards) can cause so much debate on the role of male and female characters in video game.
I was wondering what kinds of discussions some of the romhacks stored here would trigger were they exposed to a bigger audience. =P

Newcomer's Board / Lufia II monster stats
« on: December 07, 2012, 01:17:08 am »
In Lufia 2, monsters' stats can go up to 999. However, some of those stats, such as AGL and INT are stored as 1 byte in memory. What the game does when you battle them is to multiply these stats by 2. Therefore, the max these stats can reach is 510.
So, I've been fiddling around with Lufia II rom and at the moment I'm trying to find out where the game does that multiplication thing in order to increase the value (e.g. multiply monsters's stats by 3 or something).
However, I'm a ROM hacking n00b. All I've done so far was to read monster data and write them back in the ROM. I haven't done that alone, of course. I've been following the Lufia II documents I've uploaded to this site to help me (obviously, I wasn't the one who wrote them =P).
So, can anyone give me a hint of how to start? Or maybe if this is even possible at all? I was wondering that maybe this might not be possible without massively editing the rom. I'm not sure if the SNES processor knows how to multiply... but if it doesn't I think I'm gonna have trouble... =/

Newcomer's Board / SNES roms header
« on: February 18, 2012, 03:29:05 pm »
Hi,

is there an utility that adds a header to a SNES rom? I used to use SNESTool, but I can't get it to work on Windows 7. =(

Thanks!

Never mind. I've found it. It's called SNEStuff

http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&t=26313&page=1

I don't think I've seen this utility in romhacking.net... Or maybe I didn't search correctly?
