@kalita-kan
your inbox is full... solved

okay guys,a closed beta testing is coming!
Required is testing on Hardware first because this is something I can not do so easy myself. (no Everdrive, FXPack, SNES2SD)
I can test on real HW with a official Nintendo SNES Eprom Board. 32Mbit needs several Chips.  Erasing, burning and so on takes some time so I want to do this after we know it runs without roadblocks. ;)

SCD - FXPak Pro
buttcher87 - Everdrive
J^P - FXPak Pro

Any chance you guys could report for testing duty? :)
Please drop me a PM.

Here are a few screen shoots of the latest version:

kalita-kan was working like mad to make this possible. Thank you very much!
We still need a MIDI guy very urgent.

Those screen shots look good! You guys are doing some great work here!

Shouldn’t SNES9x work? I can test it on the Mini.  The last patch ran pretty well on the SNES mini. I got it to run on Canoe and Retroarch!

Has anyone contacted anyone over at Zeldix about the soundtrack.  Zeldix houses almost all of the MSU-1 soundtracks for all SNES games that have MSU-1 support. When I looked up Wolfenstein 3D on the website it has three soundtracks already recorded for Wolfenstein 3D that have been converted to PCM format for MSU-1 support. They also have the patches for the roms up there you need for MSU-1 support so you can add these soundtracks to the game. One of the soundtracks uses a lot of heavy metal and sounds really badass. There is an SC-55 set up there by GyaragaX that doesn’t sound exactly like the DOS version but sounds really good. The people over there may be of some help on this project on the soundtrack side of things. Conn and Relikk are two of the main people handling the business on that site and getting things done over there.

On another note. What gun sprites will be used for the final product. What I mean is when you are playing the game the way the gun looks when you are in first person mode. The DOS/PC version gun sprites are cool and the SNES gun sprites are unique but I think the Jaguar has the best gun sprites. Also what gun sound effects will you be using. What I mean by that is when you are shooting the gun what sound effects will you be using. I think the DOS version has the best gun sound effects. If it is possible to incorporate the Jaguar gun sprites with the DOS gun sound effects that would be the ultimate combination! I know it’s probably asking a lot but that would set this game on fire! One can only dream!

kalita-kan worked like a machine the last few weeks in order to make so many new things work in Wolfenstein 3D.
They said, Wolfenstein 3D for the SNES is one of the worst ports ever made... well not anymore!!!
I would even go as far and say it is now one of the best ports considering the weak hardware it works on and without any special chips like SFX or SA-1.
Forget what you know and enjoy Wolfenstein 3D on SNES as it was meant to be before Nintendo came around the corner with stupid censorship and guidelines.

What was done:
- Reworked and fully uncut Sprites
- HUD Faces have now about 50 new frames to show B.J.s status.
- Wall Textures have been optimized for low resolution and are fully uncut
- Wall Textures are no longer mirrored ingame
- Elevator Switch animation and Sound is back
- All Bosses have now their DOS Speech like "Guten Tag" or "Mutti"
- Pickup sound for BigGuns (DOS) implemented
- 3 modes of weapon changing available in options
- proper god mode
- Schabbs now turns you into a Mutant at kill like on DOS
- new Sound SFX has been added for SS Guards >> DOS "Schutzstaffel!" and "Spion" for Officers.
- the Dogs are reimplemented with sounds
- the SNES rats have been kept in the game as new enemy and will be used in Episode 3 and 4 (Schabbs, Übermutant)
- The Cross item is back but we also kept the Scepter and put it in some levels
- many bug fixes to the engine
- in order to implement all the new sounds the sound engine had to be rewritten
- Mission Briefings have been updated
- Title Screen, Wolfenstein Logo, Mission Briefing and Intermission screens have been cleaned up
- right now we are converting more music tracks from the DOS version to be included in the SNES version
- Game is now 24Mbits
- much more

The hack is still been working on but I want to leave a small teaser here for you.
Maybe you can spot the many changes already.

Sprites are compressed for run-time performance, by not processing invisible pixels. Some levels are terrible due to huge number of guards (5-6 / 5-B).

Using higher-res wall textures would incur similar type of penalty. Lag can be bad already at 32x32. We're lucky to hit constant stride of 15 fps, but large or odd-shaped rooms can tank it.

CD quality audio = sure. But I have to make everything work as well as possible without extra chip / hardware enhancements.

There's enough engine hacking (NDA) left to do. So project is going to take time.

Thank you for all that you do!

This is looking good. I would like to propose an idea though. I don’t know if any of you guys would be down for it, but I believe it is something that could take this project to the next level. I know a few years back Dark Samus was working on increasing the resolution on the wall textures to 64x64 so they wouldn’t look so pixelated and incorporating uncompressed character sprites but it was causing a big hit on performance. I may be wrong but I think the lack of memory was the problem holding back this project from being everything it could be. I know from reading a previous post that Fire wants to keep the SNES limitations intact and make it a special uncut version just for the SNES. But why limit this project? Why hold it back from being everything it could be and should be? What would be a solution to these problems? The solution if possible would be to make an MSU-1 patch for this game. I don’t know if it’s possible or if extra help would be needed from the community, but it’s something that I believe should happen for this project. The memory would be expanded. Uncompressed sprites? No problem! Higher resolutions wall textures? No problem! CD quality audio? No problem! This could be a project the community would be talking about for years to come!

Keep hope alive people! Too much good work has been put into this project by some great people to let it go. If you’ve sent a reply in this thread everyone here needs to reach out to everybody you know in this community. Exhaust all your resources and leave no stone unturned! WE CANNOT LET THE GREAT WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE HERE GO TO WASTE!!!!

I’ve been taking a look at the good work that’s being done here. I’m going to work on a box art for it.

Here is one if nobody is already working on it. After playing the great English patch of Undercover Cops for the SNES that was submitted to this website, it would be great if someone were to hack the rom so that it can gain 2 player support. It was a shame that it was cut out of the original SFC release, but it would be great if it could be added to the game. It will probably take a lot of effort especially with all SNES/SFC slowdown, but iI know a lot of people would want it.

A new version is ready.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/a3jgr75qwnjd30a/W3DuncutV0.3.ips?dl=0
Today I have done the intermission pictures.
He has now his Chaingun in its hands. Unfortunately there was not enough palette space for the bullet chain.
Well, he is just out of Ammo after killing Adolf :D
Because if this I made a mix of two pictures. Now there is also blood in those pictures like in the Jaguar version.
For this I had to alter the palette and redraw parts of the pictures. It is much cleaner now.

There is not much left I can do now without help on the code side.

@niuus
I have all the sprites ready with blood, I just can not reimplement them at this point.

Have you posted anything about this project in the Help Wanted Ads section of this site?

This is an awesome translation. I’m really enjoying this game now. This is good work! It should be submitted to the site for final approval.

Also I downloaded the patch and will be trying it out soon! I also messaged the famous KMFDManic. He usually responds when I ask different questions about the Mini consoles. The man is responsible for a lot of the implementation of the hakchi software that goes into modding the NES, SNES, Genesis, and Playstation Mini consoles. He usually replies back to me or anyone who has a question about these consoles. I let him know about the project you guys have going on here and that if he could help. I also asked him that if he was unable to contribute that if he knew someone in his network of people that could help to reach out to them and let them know about this project. Hopefully help will come soon!

Unfortunately there was no progress on the hack itself so far but I finished the manual.
The game manual was also censored. I remade the whole thing from scratch based upon the real one.
I have improved and fixed some things and also added some stuff which was missing from the original.
You can download a review copy of the manual as PDF here:

W3DManReview.pdf

It would be cool if you guys, especially native english speaker, could check it for errors.

Thing I have added are:

Automap Screen and description
Flamethrower and Rocketlauncher text
Both should be checked and maybe the text can be improved.

I had to read and retype the text so there could be typos.
Also I think they missed some commas back then but I am no native english speaker.

This review copy is in low quality to keep the file size down.
The material I have is in 300 DPI print quality.

Have fun.

OK I took a look at the manual. Sorry I took so long. I am a college math professor and we have been trying to get final exams and grades done so it took awhile before I could look at it. The only thing is, that link you sent me to the manual had a trojan and malware in it. I have protection on my PC, but you guys need to be careful!! After I read through the manual I deleted it from my PC. Anyway I found the following grammatical errors.

Page 2
There is an error that Should read: YOU ALWAYS MANAGE TO GET THE JOB DONE AND GET OUT ALIVE.

Page 4
Under Skill: BEHAVIOUR should be BEHAVIOR

Page 7
Under Result Screen: You have 2 FROM's when there should only be 1.

Page 8
Under Mutant Rats: Use FOR instead of FOT

Page 9
There is an error that should read FEARED TOOLS

Page 10
GRAFT should be CRAFT

Page 14
Under FIRST AID KITS: the word LATEST should be used
Under AMMO PACKS: the word THESE should be used

Page 16
Under KEYS: AN IRON KEY

Will do! I will take a look at the manual. English is my primary language so I have no problem looking this over. Also I wanted to point out there is a YouTube user who goes by the name CoTeCiOtm, he made a hack of the original beta for this game. The beta apparently already had the blood in it before it was removed so he used that a basis for his hack. In his hack he replaced the wall textures to the original textures but everything is still 32x32 so it still looks undetailed like the original. The censored text of the original game remains the same in his hack. It’s a decent attempt but it has its problems. I tried it in my SNES Classic and it does not work with Canoe and gave me a C8 error. I used SNES 9x 2010 and it works but the L and R buttons pause the game and you cannot strafe left or right. Overall it’s okay! The name of the video is Wolfenstein 3D Uncensored. I’m wondering if he should be including in this project. He may have some valuable input to contribute to the great work that you all have already done. I will see if I can message him and let him know about this project. Check his video out when you get a chance. He left the downloads for the beta and his hack in the description of his YouTube video.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Armored Trooper Votoms SNES
« on: December 02, 2020, 09:41:04 pm »
There is a few language translations for SNES games that I would like to see. First would be Armored Trooper Votoms. I recently started playing this game and its pretty good, and seeing how the anime is very popular I believe this game deserves it. Does anyone know if anybody is working on this?

Secondly I would like to see a language translation patch for Kamen Rider for the SNES. It is a decent beat em up, a popular series and I believe that it deserves some consideration for a patch as well.

Thirdly Ghost Sweeper Mikami for the SNES, that is another popular anime and another good game. That definitely deserves a patch as well. Its some others like Jikkyou Parodius, but that is all I can think of at this time.

I'm just throwing some ideas out there, and I welcome any feedback from anyone.

Hey you guys. I just started reading this thread the other day. I would like to become a tester for this. I dont have the knowledge to do what you guys are doing but I would like to help you guys with the testing on this. Hopefully everyone is okay and this project will move forward and be completed. That boxart is dope and I will be adding it to my collection. I believe comment 182 is the latest patch, or if anyone has anything updated I would like to try it out. I want in on this!!!
