Thanks! Personally, at this point I don't want to think about it any more. The important thing was to be able to share 10 months full of work and personal ups and downs. Remove a spicy joke were certainly not going to ruin the gaming experience. And that is the only thing that has changed from the version that was briefly shared.

And of course, the patch to uncensor the game is already uploaded elsewhere. Give me just a few days to finish the presentation video on my channel and I'll share it all there, links + covers + thanks to those who have actively contributed to the project.

Well, he's actually the one on holiday XD. In 20 days we will coincide half of the time, that's why I try to squeeze the days I spend with him. And in August I asked for 15 days off. We will travel together 3 generations of my family, so it will be epic!

Believe me bro, it is perfectly possible (and even child's play with some practice) to cross those wooden stakes without any damage:

And it's even easier in the next section of the level (where we ascend inside the tree), because if we're a bit ahead of the camera the spikes don't activate until we've already passed.

About the "Phantom Head", I can't do anything. I don't have the knowledge to modify the collision boxes, and if I did, it would probably be bad for the game.

Not at all, I love these covers! I was already going to include you in the acknowledgements of the video presentation of the hack for your enthusiasm and numerous contributions in the form of ideas. Many of them have been incorporated at the end so. With your permission, I'd love to add those links to the covers.

I just saw a noncompilant request from USC in the queue, the hack may end up getting removed!

Green Jerry: I received messages notifying me that this hack violates the site guidelines on explicit content. I set up the non-compliance flag so that the authors have a chance to respond to or clarify the concern. Other reviewers will take a look at the hack as well, so we'll get this sorted out.

It is sad that your project was under the departure from this zone. So much effort, and, alas and ah.

Honestly, it looks great. I really say: "You have done everything perfectly .." I would have had such a Hack in my pirated days - I would have claimed that this is a license even at an older age.

It was something I expected, although honestly before I self-censored my work, I wanted to check whether the site's policies apply in terms of " B&W" or whether they would take context into account.

I have nothing against sites like "BHDN", but I don't feel that projects like this or my previous hack (a fairly respectful political satire) have to be with hacks that play at being deliberately controversial with topics like sex, racism, etc. My hack only includes a topless and a spicy joke, but as the saying goes, "My house, my rules". Although I don't agree with it, I respect that the owners of RHDN want to protect their work and the work of all those who share it on their website and that they prefer not to play with fire and provoke some kind of reaction that destroys it, so plan B: I'll censor my work in order to share it. But don't worry, you won't need to create a hastag #ReleaseTheOnionsCut XD, because with the presentation video I will publish a link to the the full version. I just hope you don't go blind or burn in hell for playing it XDD.

very good, but there is a serious collision problem in mario's head, it doesn't hit anything, if it's corrected, you'll have to fix that skewer of locks that stick out from top to bottom, when it's halfway through due to the head not being hit, but correcting yourself will have to make this obstacle slower or it will be impossible to pass without losing a heart :thumbsup:

Supergamerguy: but mario's head doesn't have a collision, it looks like a phantom head because everything goes through it, if this were corrected it would be much better, right, even the stars that we peeled in the game we can't catch when it plays, but from the waist down

I haven't forgotten about you flaviogames XD. I understand what the problem is, but let me explain a few things:

1) Mario's sprite is exactly 3 pixels taller than Bob's. I did my best to make them similar in size and not affect the collision box without distorting the plumber's proportions.

2) That collision problem in the sprite's head as you see in the gif already exists in the original game.  Bob's head and hammer go through objects like a ghost. This can be deliberate: A very tight collision box can ruin the game experience. An example? The sewer level in "Bartman meets Radioactive Man". Another explanation (and this is a theory, though based on various indications) is that the developers ran out of time to test and polish the game.

And with that said, I will resubmit the game (this time censored), pray for the best and move on. I hope you can enjoy it soon.

Hi everybody! I'm absolutely glad that so many people are getting involved and showing interest in the project. I loved some of the ideas, especially "Super Mario Infinity" because it's in line with recent titles and doesn't emphasize the hammer idea, which I know is the fresh dish of the menu, but hey, the last title of main saga is called "Odyssey", not "Cap" XD.

Also, look at the design I made, i mean: Mario holding a hammer, a hammer under the title screen and another one as a selection icon. Are we sure there are enough hammers in the title screen? XD

I really want the project to be liked by many, but it's not a Ham-and-Cheese sandwich, and I can't use a title without some people like it and some dislike it, so Wrecking Bros. stays, and I may remove the hammer Mario is holding in the image so it's a little less Redundant.

Wow, hi everyone. Glad to see that there has been movement these days that I have not visited the forum.

You are really pushing hard on the idea of creating a version with an alternative title. And (unfortunately) for me, I like to please people, so I will finally do some extra job to create an alternate title version. In fact, I've been working these couple of days on an alternative version called "Super Buni Edition". This version is a small tribute to the guy who suggested me to create the hack, which includes a new title screen and a little tweak according to his memories of this game:

Before I get to it, suggestions for the alternate title and its visual style? I had thought of something like "Wrecking Bros." or "Wrecking Mario", and mimic the style of the title screens of that saga, but they are quite lame, so I had thought of letters made with tables, as made by a carpenter, and replace the number 8 with a hammer.

You are not alone XD. Many people think that "Super Mario Bros. 8" is not a catchy title, but as I explained at the very beginning of this post, there are two good reasons for that:

1) This Hack is a request from one of my subscribers from Argentina. The idea was to improve the Chinese bootleg "Super Bros. 8", one of the many pirate incarnations of the plumber, and one of the most fondly remembered, because the game it uses as a base (and from which they barely changed 1% of the resources) is excellent and takes inspiration directly from the Nintendo franchise (even in the soundtrack). So there's a nostalgia factor.

2) Changing the title would undermine the visibility of the Hack. In fact, thanks to having kept it many people have found the videos related to the project on Youtube. I would even dare to say that it has generated some expectation among several hundred users.

Something similar already happened with my Street Fighter IV Hack (I'm referring to the NES bootleg). I retitled the game as "Fighting Legend", because in its last known version any reference to the Capcom game was removed. As you can imagine nobody interested about playing the Hack could find it until I renamed it as "Street Fighter IV: Enhanced Edition".

Hey people! I bring good news and bad news. The bad news is that the suggestion period is closed. And why? Because the project (drum roll) is finally finished!

I still have to work on several extras that will accompany its release, but trust that by the end of this month or early July it will be ready for you to play it, and even after that I'd love to get some feedback from you (there's always time for some tweaking).

This project is looking better and better every day, Bro! The title screen and intro just blows your mind, it's like "I can't believe this is possible". The work on the more polished levels is amazing, just like the sprites. And yeaaaaah! You have removed the time limit. For that alone we should worship you as a God.

And now, some suggestions and constructive criticism:

·I think the animation frames when we see Robocop in the cutscenes wielding the gun and shooting don't quite work. Maybe it's the frequency, maybe it lacks a flashing effect to make it more convincing. It's really a personal opinion, it's your "baby" so if you like it that way I like it too.

·Sorry, but I can't watch the animation frames of Robocop's mouth without laughing.To put it delicately, "those lips don't look like they were made to pray to God" XD. I'm sure you can do something about that.

·Another thing that is quite comical is the animation when Robocop walks through a door. From what I remember, that was already happening in the original game's animation. It just looks weird and forced, even considering it's the same sprite mirrored to create the illusion that it's moving.

·On the third level, one of Robocop's greatest enemies emerges: the stairs. And really, as they are designed, they are a bit confusing, especially when going down them. Is it as if they were in perspective? Or is it a railing that supose be in front of Robocop? Anyway, it stands to reason that after persisting you'll find the right spot where to go down them, but you can certainly do something about it.

·This last (the rest of the things I've noticed are to be expected in a version still in development) is a personal suggestion: I don't dislike the Bad Dudes cameo in the 1st stage, but I think it would be terrific to replace it with a T-800. What do you think?

I can't wait to play the final version of this project. There really are few things more disappointing to a kid than putting together two things he loves like a cool movie and his favorite console and having the result be.... well, the original game. With this hack you're going to make a lot of " grown up kids" really happy.

If the inclusion of Mechakoopa I think totally right,this game I never played, so for me it will be like playing a title of yours.

Totally agreed, Mechakoopa Rocks 8)... but unfortunately, this sprite is mirrored so I can only use front-viewed characters. For that reason I decided to use something similar (in this case a Mecha-Goomba).

I think Cookatiel would work *perfectly* :

This would have been a great choice as well, because it fit the context very well... although I saw the suggestion a bit late... :-[

In the end, I opted for a simple decision and gave the boss design a more childlike and harmless look that would fit in well with the aesthetics of the Mario series. Yo can see a Gameplay of the level (and the Boss) here:

And here a little preview of the final battle The only thing I don't like are the floating fans. Actually they are robot legs, and that's why the speed with which the fans move is slow and I don't know if it works really well. What do you think?

it's getting really good, i hope the gameplay is good because the graphics are getting good, i imagine the gameplay will be the same as the original game, but i have never played it and don't even want to play it to have an experience of a new mario game for us and no more a hack, waiting anxiously, when i have a beta i will want to try ;D

Thanks! The truth is that everything in the original game is really good: Graphics, music and gameplay. That's the main reason why the Chinese bootleg is fondly remembered by many.And the project is almost finished, so in a few weeks you will have a ver. 1.0

At this point (the last Boss before the final fight), the only thing that slows me down is some doubts in the design. I wanted to keep elements of the original game, so I tried to make this guy a little more "friendly" as you can see in the image, but I'm not convinced, and there aren't many enemies from the Super Mario universe that fit either.

Any bright ideas?

Not all of them. The original idea was to change only the enemies that had an obvious counterpart in the Mario world (the original game takes inspiration from it, so that's relatively easy) and the uninspired ones.

This, as usual, has changed a bit due to the suggestions and feedback I' ve been receiving through my Youtube channel. In certain aspects, I'm afraid of disappointing the " grown up kids" who will see how some of their beloved memories have changed, but (obviously) I won't be able to make everyone happy, so I'm going ahead and if I consider it necessary I would make changes in a ver. 1.1

Just one little nitpick though: I think Kirby would benefit from being a little rounder if possible, and maybe his UFO should encroach a little less on his head so the proportions look more even. But if that's not possible due to sprite size limitations, it's not a big deal in the end.

As always, keep up the good work!

That's not a big problem in the design of Kirby's Adventure, because the perspective is lateral. In fact, I did some experiments, although I finally decided to fuse both designs because I thought the perspective gives it a nice touch.

Thanks as always for your suggestions. In the end I have opted for Kirby-UFO (Lakitu on his cloud is too tall):

About the little wooden soldier, I intended to replace him with the tin soldier in SML2, but it didn't match well at all. That's why I "fused" both designs, using the original animation and redrawing it in the style of the Nintendo sprite. The result fits quite well, and I even dared to combine two palettes:

In conclusion, it has been a very productive weekend. Now my neurons are starting to get tired and I doubt every decision. Half of the robot's sprite is mirrored, forcing me to use a character seen from the front. I've used a Goomba for now, but it feels a bit generic. And about the boomerang-throwing pig, more of the same:

On the one hand, a Boomerang Bro would fit perfectly. On the other, I'm starting to think I'm changing things by inertia and maybe I should preserve the pig. So the question is: Pig IN or Pig OUT? What do you think?

Thank you for your suggestions! ;D At this point (after some minor tweaks) I can start working on World 5. And this is the first progress I have made:

I think the changes integrate well with the original graphics and fulfill what someone who had played Chinese Bootleg when they were little would have expected (I've also added a little joke, just for fun >:D).

And now, a few questions:

This cute UFO is begging to be changed. Someone on my Youtube channel has suggested Lakitu (which could cause problems, because if I remember correctly it measures 24x16 or 32x16 with the cloud).

About the pig, it is clear to me that the most obvious choice is a Boomerang Bro. And the wooden soldier I will try to change it for the tin soldier from SML2.

And this tiny robot... oh, how I hate it XD. Seriously, it looks really uninspired. It shares palette with the UFO and has an annoying attack routine: When you hit it it gets damaged, but it keeps moving, which causes if you're too close it causes damage to you.

And of course the boss. Apparently the development team had a certain fixation with giving the Final Bosses a somewhat creepy and menacing look, with spikes and icy eyes.

Plan A is to alter the design to make it more "friendly", Mario style. It's a good solution, because in the end it's a game that arouses nostalgia, and changing it excessively can be detrimental... unless you come up with something that fits like a glove instead.

And that's all for now. Nothing is closed yet, so, let the Brainstorming begin! And thanks in advance for your help.
