3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
4. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA
5. Collection of Mana
6. Octopath Traveler
7. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
8. Dragon Ball FighterZ
9. Mario Tennis Aces
10. Super Mario Odyssey

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening would also be a nice RPG to choose, but only if you like chibi style art and the original GB/GBC game since this is a remake of it. Of course, there's plenty of other good RPGs available as well as other genres of games if you prefer those instead of this one.

I agree entirely, I can't stand the small split screen on the DS. The console version of games will always be superior to the portable ones even if only for having a larger screen/display. Though, to be honest, console graphics are usually better as well. This is especially true where Chrono Trigger is concerned. After having played both versions, I agree 100% that the original SNES version is the best. The PS1 version might have also been good if not for the loading times. But you're not missing out on much. It's basically the same as the SNES version with some added animated cutscenes.

As for which version to play first, definitely the original SNES version for the authentic experience. After that, I would recommend that you give the Schala edition a try and the Chrono Trigger Plus hack when a definite finished version of it is released (it's still being worked on to fix the remaining bugs).

Edit: You might also enjoying trying the Chrono Trigger: Bugfix and Uncensoring Patch for a cleaner script that's also more true to the original Japanese version. There's also plenty of other romhacks for Chrono Trigger that polish the script, add a harder difficulty and even complete fan re-translations. When it comes to Chrono Trigger, you have many options available. But as it was said before, you're better off just playing the original SNES version the first time for the authentic experience. You may then try all these different patches available for a newer, fresh twist to this classic game each playthrough. There's even a six letter patch and a Frog Powerup one if you would like to play using longer names or a beefed up Frog. Heh, that sounds pretty funny! :laugh:

I've always felt that both Quest 64 and Quest: Brain's Journey were greatly underrated. Sure, they may be simple style RPGs without a lot of fancy features, but they're certainly quite original in regards to how all the features have been implemented. The magic level system and moneyless aspects made both of these games stand out compared to other typical RPGs such as those in the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series. It's sad that Quest 64 was rushed though, it could've been better if they had more time to work on it. However, I still find both games fun to play, even though they're both a little short. Too bad the sequel to Quest 64 was cancelled. Based on what I've seen and heard, it probably would've been a pretty amazing game...

For anyone who is interested in playing homebrew games, I would definitely recommend that they give Anguna a try. It's an interesting dungeon crawler style RPG very similar to The Legend of Zelda type games. Both the GBA and DS versions seem to be the same overall with only a few differences in gameplay. I personally prefer the more classic retro feel of the GBA version, but both are fine. Make sure to look everywhere and collect any useful items you find. They will be needed latter on.

Amazing work! I haven't gotten around to playing much of version 2.0 yet, but so far everything looks great. This is something that I'm definitely going to be playing during the upcoming weekend. Nicely done! :thumbsup:

If I could chime in here for a moment, I actually like the idea of all characters being at the same level and gaining equal experience even outside of battle. For casual gamers and those who are usually busy, it reduces the stress of having to constantly switch between active and benched characters. A player can just play with whom they like and enjoy the game. However, I do understand what's being said about giving the player an incentive. Perhaps two alternative patches could be offered. The original one with equal experience gained and an alternate one with different values.

I haven't gotten to the part with the helper AI yet, but it definitely looked awesome in the previous video. The "Bugger" and "Proto" robotic type enemies could also make for nice AI controlled companions. Well regardless, this project and that of the Schala Edition are definitely the two best must play romhacks I've seen so far. Great work once again, this is a truly amazing tribute to one of the best games of all time. :beer:

Nice, another Fire Emblem fan hack with an original story. I haven't gotten around to playing much of The Burdened Crown yet, but it looks pretty good so far. There's still a few active projects going on at the moment as well, so that's something to look forward to for any Fire Emblem fan. I always felt that the GBA had the best three games in the series for it, so it's nice to see more fan projects using them as a base.

That's amazing, I've always wanted to have an AI companion help you out in battles. Well, that's if Chrono Trigger was harder than it actually was. The vanilla game is known to be quite easy, but I suppose that's better than having it be too brutally difficult and unbalanced. I'm curious about two things though:

1. You mentioned that if you attack the AI, it will turn off. Let's say you did that and decide that you wanted it on again. Would you just attack it again or will it stay turned off until the next battle? Which brings up yet another question: If you did turn the AI off in battle, by default, will it be on or off in the next battle? Hopefully, you can't accidentally destroy it by attacking it too much, haha! :laugh:

2. Will there be other AI companion units available? I know that this might still be in the testing phase, but I'm wondering if such a thing would be possible? Maybe give the player a choice of which robot unit to purchase in the game and possibly the choice to exchange it at a booth if the player wants to try a different one. It would be interesting to choose from a list of all non-boss enemy robot units to have as a companion. It might make it more interesting to have more expensive and better units that a player could choose to save up Gold for and invest in it. Such units might also help the player win very difficult tournament style battles for better prizes that could otherwise be too hard without the additional help from an AI helper unit.

Nu might also make a nice temporary helper in a certain time period. Let's say, either when going to fight Azala through the Tyrano Lair or during the Ocean Palace stage. Or perhaps a knight (with a sprite like the prison guard enemy) could volunteer to come along with you to take on Magus at his castle or at least during the Zenan Bridge fight. If the player had this person in their party, it could just be said that he wasn't sucked through the time portal after defeating Magus. He might also be available to rejoin the party as well, but only when in the Middle Ages. For example, when taking on a side quest there such as the desert monsters for Fiona, Ozzie's Lair or The Giant's Claw island. Perhaps this knight could be stationed somewhere at the Guardia Castle or elsewhere in the city. It's just an idea. And as a last note, I would just like to thank you all again for working on such an amazing project. I hope that it all goes well, best of luck to all of you! :beer:

I think it would be an awesome idea to combine different fighting games on the same console and style into one. For example (for the SNES): Super Street Fighter II - The New Challengers combined with the two Fighter's History games and possibly even Battle Master. SD Hiryu no Ken combined with Super Chinese Fighter.

The Speed shoes and the ability to play as another character were all figured out by Mauron.
Looks awesome! :thumbsup:

However, if I may make one minor suggestion: I believe that the running animation for the Amphibite (frog monster) might look better if it was animated. Perhaps adding the standard left and right hopping animation when it's normally standing still would look good when it's running if it were accelerated. When I mean is doubling the speed of its left and right hopping pattern when it's running forward in the arcade mini-game. This way, it would look like it's actually running/hopping.

AGTP has always released fine quality translations. Thanks for all your hard work Gideon Zhi! I hope you'll be able to continue working on translating games such as these for many more years to come (time permitting of course). :thumbsup:

I really enjoyed playing the RPG Maker 2000 game titled "The Frozen World" by Lysander86.

He also made other RPG Maker games such as "A blurred Line", "The Book of Three" and "The Blue Contestant", among others.

Many years ago (around 2008 or 2009), I made two Phantasy Star IV fan games using RPG Maker 2000 called "Gryz Quest" and "Kyra's Quest" which were inspired by "Chaz Adventure" and "Raja's Adventure" (that were made by different authors/creators). I haven't been to the site in quite a few years, but I believe that they are all still available at pscave.com. It was a long time ago though, and mine really weren't all that great... If anyone is interested in playing one of these fan games, I would recommend you try "Raja's Adventure". It's by far the best one of the four. Or you could just play the Phantasy Star II text adventures that inspired these fan games.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that "The Frozen World" also has a unique custom made battle system which is rare for RPG Maker games.

It's tough to say because while wasting money on upgrading bad units is of course not a very good idea, you'll still have to in order to progress the game before getting the better and final ones. While the idea of saving your money for the best units might sound good at first, consider the fact that until then, you'll have to complete missions using the ones you actually have now until you get the better ones. My recommendation would be to try and save as much as you can, but if a mission is unbeatable, restart the current scenario and further upgrade the units you have now in order to progress further.

The skill "Luck" doubles the money you get when an enemy unit is defeated. Therefore, use this before beating tough units that give a lot of money such as bosses. I believe that strange double mech creature in the "Bermuda Triangle" level gave a lot of cash, so use this skill before defeating them both. But to answer your question, the best units would probably be the following: Raideen, Daitarn 3, V Gundam, Mazinkaiser, Great Mazinger, Shin Getter Robo, Grendizer, Granzon, Neue Ziel and Sazabi. There's of course others as well, but I haven't played this game in a long time and can't remember them all off the top of my head.

That's very interesting, I wonder why they chose to remove this detail in the final release? There's one thing that I don't quite understand though. Why would Magus order Heckran to "protect the spot over which Lavos sleeps"? Was this some kind of back-up plan in case he either lost or failed to summon Lavos the first time (in the original Middle Ages timeline before Crono and party interfered)? Surely he didn't believe that some random person would just dig deep in that exact spot and accidentally awaken Lavos. And could Heckran really be over 400 years old? Mystics might have a longer lifespan than humans, but this just seems too much. I'm assuming that Magus can feel the dark energy of Lavos or something which is how he knew the exact spot where Lavos was in. Does this mean that Heckran's Cave in the Present time is where Magus' Castle was in the Middle Ages? Or could Magus summon Lavos without actually being directly underneath it? And lastly, would Heckran really choose to continue guarding the same spot for over 400 years after Magus was defeated and disappeared? If so, that's quite some level of dedication! Maybe Heckran was still hoping that Magus would return some day.

All this just doesn't quite make sense. Perhaps that's why this detail was removed before release? Or does anyone here have any ideas how all this could have been explained in the game?

I forgot all about "The Scratchpad" option available here. Sorry, but I'm not used to uploading projects done by other people. It's much easier when I submit my own translations here from Dynamic-Designs which has very nicely organized project pages made by Taskforce. I don't mean to boast or anything, but I do wish that other sites would follow our example in the way we maintain project pages. Everything is neatly displayed and easy to access. All the patches, screenshots and descriptions are all well laid out in the project pages.

Thanks! While this fixes the freeze, it doesn't appear to be any more complete than the current (broken) translation, unless I'm missing something (only played a bit, so I could be, but it mainly looks like the same menu translation).
Yes, unfortunately this translation is incomplete as well. The main focus of it is to fix the freezing glitch that the previous patch here had with the first race. I haven't played all that much of it myself yet, but aside from the previously mentioned bug fix, I've read somewhere on another site that a bit more of the story is in fact translated. At least the game is now made playable.

Edit: Looks like my submission got approved after all. I apologize for my earlier paranoia about it possibly being rejected. Once again though, I'm just not used to submitting other people's work even though doing so is quite common here with RHDN being a vast collective for both various hacks and translations. I suppose I'll consider this a learning opportunity not only on the submission process here, but also on idea of not quickly jumping to such negative conclusions in the future...

I just wanted to let everyone here know that there's an alternative translation available for F-Zero Climax that doesn't freeze unlike the one currently here at RHDN that does so after the first race. Well, here it is:

I've already submitted a project page for it here. However, knowing how strict the submission guidelines here are, I'm not 100% sure that it will even be approved which is why I wanted to at least inform all of you here where this translation may be obtained. Just click on the green button that says "Clone or download" then select "save as ZIP" to download the ZIP folder. Make sure to also follow the instructions carefully:

And for those of you curious why I don't have complete confidence in my submission being approved, it's for these two following reasons:

1. For new authors, I added Normmatt, the lead project leader in this case and the first person listed in the credits. The problem with this is that the form asks you to fill in the home URL. I placed the linked above which may not be accepted since it's not his actual website. I don't even think he has one to be honest, but I may be wrong.

2. At least one screenshot is required for submission. The link above did not have any at all, neither did any other place where the translation is available. And not to mention the fact that even if I did find one, it might still be rejected on grounds of "hotlinking". Therefore, I placed a link to the second screenshot of the existing F-Zero Climax translation here at RHDN of the control pad scheme (since it has not changed in this new version).

This translation also had Clank Hughes listed in the credits as with the existing translation here. However, Normmatt is now listed as the lead romhacker in this version. If my submission does by some chance get rejected, anyone who wishes to submit this translation here may do so. I'm getting a bit too tired of tackling the RHDN submission form again and am already quite busy as it is already... But hopefully everything will work out and this won't be necessary.

Like Gideon Zhi said, Ys is indeed mostly based on real places with their names slightly edited. Just to add a few more places to the list above this post:

Eresia - Eurasia
Medo Sea - Mediterranean Sea
Ispani - Spain

They didn't bother changing anything for Europe though. You can see this right in the beginning of Ys Seven:

The only thing left that would make the Ys series more close to reality was if the "Romun Empire" would sack/destroy "Altago" and salt the earth there so no more plants and crops could grow. Instead, if I remember correctly, they signed some sort of ceasefire agreement in this series. This was mentioned somewhere in Ys Seven.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that "Canaan Islands" is probably either a reference to the Canaan settlement on the island of Saint Croix (in the United States Virgin Islands) or to the Canary Islands. That would seem to match the whole Spanish and Mediterranean theme in that area of the game (where Europe is supposed to be).

Of course there's many other good ones out there as well. I just mentioned the few that I could quickly remember off the top of my head.

Edit: I also forgot to mention three other games that I would recommend playing: Rudra no Hihou, Live A Live and Treasure Hunter G. Ys IV is also pretty fun.

Thank you very much for the translation! I always wondered why Dogi was left out of the SNES version of Ys V since he clearly came on board with Adol at the end of Ys IV as he always does. Maybe it was something they forgot to do and then decided to add him in the PS2 version. Or perhaps they chose to leave him out because Adol always fights alone in the Ys series up until when Ys Seven was released where a party system was introduced, including in the games after it.

In any case, thanks once again for the translation. :thumbsup:
