I would LOVE to see a GB Final Fantasy Adventure DX see the light of day. It's one of the most underrated gems of all time and deserves some attention !

The hack is really very well done but my complaint would be that it's too hard compared to the original SMK, preventing it from feeling like a true official sequel. Except maybe a SMB2-like sequel lol. The tracks are generally way too narrow, I mean the Cheep Cheep Island bridge section is infuriating for instance. I may be a bit rusted but I'm still an experienced SMK player who's confortable with playing the original Special Cup in 150cc (to give you an idea of my skill level).

Well I'm using the Super Mario Kart (USA).sfc rom found in the no-intro-nintendo-super-nintendo-entertainment-system-20170529 folder. I patched using Lunar IPS (I redid it several times just in case) and tried to play the rom with ZSNES on my PC and on Retroarch Switch. The result is always the same, the emulator freezes right away (I don't even get the Nintendo logo).

On the other hand I also tried SMK Epic Racers in the same conditions and it worked fine.

Maybe I need to use a different source rom ? But which one ? If you can help me make this work that would be great. Thank you  :thumbsup:

I tried using these roms, to no avail :

Super Mario Kart (U) [h1].smc (with that one I get the Nintendo logo, then it freezes)

A Header problem, patch is for a Headered ROM.

Here's a rom hack idea I have : a Yoshi's Island demake using the SMW engine. The idea would be to create a "beta" version of the official Super Mario World 2 by using upgraded SMW assets (like the ones in Super Mario World Redrawn) to give it a proper sequel feel. Of course there would be no Yoshi eggs, no baby Mario... Just what SMW 2 should have been to me.

I would love to try this hack but it never works for me. I'm using the correct rom, I'm patching using Lunar IPS... but no luck.

5. Mega Man Ultimate: All boss levels from MM 1-6 with all the powers (slide, power up megabuster, etc) and Rush modes available; if possible, add 8-way weapon firing for all weapons, not just metal man's weapon.  And special mode to halve enemy weapon strength and double mega buster strength.
6. Megaman X 1-4: as NES ROMs
7. Super Mario Land 2: colorized as an NES ROM
8. GB Megaman games colorized and as NES ROMs
10. Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening as an NES ROM
11. Zelda II, and Link's Awakening with SNES graphics
12. Megaman 1-6, 9, 10 with SNES graphics
14. Metroid II colorized as an NES ROM

I like these ideas !

That's a great topic, made especially for me !  ;D I've got plenty of ideas but minor hacking skills, unfortunately. Here are some ideas I recall right now (some are quite simple) :

- a simple hack of Secret of Mana with the three heroes' color palettes switched with their doppelganger boss counterparts ;
- a fully colorized version of Final Fantasy Adventure (I tried to start this but it seems GB Colorizer doesn't work with that game) ;
- a Super Mario World hack which would be a remake both Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2. The SML1 levels could be the first world of the game for instance. A New Super Mario Bros Wii hack could do the job too, I guess.
- a full-fledged hack for Street Fighter II The World Warriors including bosses as playable characters. I know there's already a hack called Street Fighter V that does the job but it's very glitchy.
- a hack for Mortal Kombat II (Super NES) including bosses as playable characters. I think there's one for the Genesis version but not for the SNES version.

Hope you find some of these ideas interesting.

Are you planning on colorizing other GB games ? Which software did you use ?

Looks very nice ! Maybe this will convince me to finally play this game. I love FE very much, but the pre-GBA games look a bit austere to my taste.

I love the idea of a new Mana Tower in the Light House to obtain the level 9 sword orb. I don't know if it's possible to make with the hacking tools available, though. If it's not, maybe the Mana Sword could be obtained by defeating a Mana Fortress boss for example ? You could also edit the Mana Fortress enemies' stats to make it much more difficult, to make the lv9 sword more relevant.

If making a seperate patch for the magic system means having the magic charge time binded to it, then go for it. I'd rather lose a feature than playing with the magic binding system (sorry...).

Okay, so I finally got around to test your hack and started a new game. I must say I love all the changes, except one : the magic biding feature. What I would want is the same hack but with the vanilla magic system. I'm gonna go in detail :

- AI controlled characters don't get stuck
Great idea, of course, and well executed.

- MP is shown at all time
Nice touch, and useful.

- Binding magic spells
My main issue with the new magic system is that choosing a spell doesn't interrupt the game anymore. But since you can now target allies with black magic and enemies with white magic, you need to be extra careful and take time to choose the target with a glitchy head-cursor which doesn't help either. I could not use the biding system as it felt too confusing in battle and always ended up casting on the wrong target. This new system kinda ruined the whole thing for me. That's why I didn't get very far (I stopped playing after getting Gnome)

- Magic recharging time
This is a nice idea to add some difficulty, it takes some time to get used to, but I like it.

- Strong/Weak attacks
Very good, the control scheme is perfect for me (B for weak and forward+B for strong)

Manual blocking
I love the idea, it's a bit hard to get it right in-game, but when you do it it feels very rewarding. It definitely adds something in terms of challenge.

- Enhanced bow
Awesome, now the bow is actually useful, and even becomes one of the best weapons of the game.

- Reduced hit-recovery time / Reduced damage/healing time
Great idea ! Adds some challenge, now you actually have to pay attention to enemies' routines and be careful when moving around them not to get hit.

- 3 Difficulty settings
Very good idea. I played on hard, didn't get very far as previously mentioned, but it definitely felt more challenging than the original without being cheap or unfair.

Here's an idea : why not adding a sword ord as well, so we can finally get lv.9 sword without cheating ?

  • At times I have gotten two orbs of the same type at once (spear and sword orbs I believe). This happened after returning to vanilla Secret of Mana after playing an earlier version of your mod. I have read on the gamefaqs forums that this happens when you miss an earlier opportunity to get that type of weapon orb. I'm not sure if that's true or if my game is just glitching out. If that is true, I was wondering if your mod that adds an extra glove and axe orb will give you double axe/glove orbs later on if you miss the earlier glove or axe orb?

This is not a glitch, it is a feature of vanilla SOM. By using it you can get the level 9 Sword : skip the fight against Mantis Ant (use a cheat code to get Flammie at the beginning for instance), and you'll get two Sword orbs in a row when you open the chests in Pandora. Then go fight Mantis Ant and you're set !

I have a problem with the patch, when i click on the windows patcher, it says that I don't have the mother3.ups which IS here. I redownloaded the files several times without success... Sorry to bother but what can I do ?

Never mind, I managed to apply the patch when I extracted the files on the root of the disc.
