I think the best person to ask would be Todd Blankenship, or Herms98 as he's known on Twitter. He's a known Toriyama scholar who translates interviews with Toriyama on, one of the most noteworthy English Dragon Ball fansites out there and helped with Discotek's DVD release of the first five Dr. Slump movies.

I would like an optional patch for a B Button run, as it really speeds up the game for me.

I would also like to see some changed spell names in the Chaos Edition so that they are more faithful to the Famicom version:

Focus - Shape
Sleep - Sleepel
Temper - Strike
Focura - Shara
Scourge - Clouda/Cloudkill (Clouda is a literal translation of the spell name, while Cloudkill is the name of the D&D spell it was based on)
Firaga - Figa
Teleport - Telepo
Thundaga - Thunga (Name only used in the Famicom version)
Warp - Dezone
Cure - Care
NulShock - BarThndr (Best it could fit without squishy tiles)
NulBlaze - BarFire
Cura - Carera
Diara - Adia
NulFrost - BarCold
Vox - Vocal
Curaga - Careda
Healara - Healra
Diaga -  Dadia
Exit - Datelpo (Best it could fit without squishy tiles)
Invisra - Invira
NulDeath - BarMagic
Curaja - Carega
Healaga - Raheala
Diaja - Gadia
NulAll - BarAll
Mythril - Mithril (as in the Lord of the Rings metal)
Crosier - Khakhara (A Budist ringed staff used in prayer, original Japanese name was Shakujo, which was Khakkhara's Japanese pronounciation)
Vorpal - Sharp
Jolt Tonic - Awakening
Pirate - SeaBandit
Buccaneer - Pirate
Sahagin - Sahuagin (Named after the D&D monster)
WhiteCroc - Whitedile
Ochu - Otyugh (Named after the D&D monster)
Remorazz - Remorhaz (Named after the D&D monster)
BlackFlan - B.Pudding
Rhyos - Gorgimera

Any plans to port your script into the MSX version of FF1?

I think you can go with the Four Chaoses. After all, the Four Fiends are known as the Four Heavenly Kings (or the Shitennou), not the Four Chaoses.

I never liked how Mog talked in the SNES version. It always reminded me of that whole 90s "mascot with attitude" craze. Any plans to revise it to be more faithful to more modern ports?

Human-loving, fast-talking, street-smart, SLAM-dancing... Moogle...
The crap is slam-dancing anyway?

A moogle who speaks the words of mankind. He can summon the powers of the Earth through his dance.
Adds a hint about how his Dance ability is learnt.

That old psycho, Ramuh, came to me in a dream and told me to be expectin' you! And now... I'm... gonna join your party!
Another example of the Poochiefication of Mog.

An old man named Ramuh showed up in my dreams one day and taught me your language, kupo. He told me that I should join up with you, kupo! So... I'm one of you guys now, kupo!

Will Garland still threaten to knock you down?

Never mind, I can still talk to them from the sides, but I can't talk to them facing foward unlike the Japanese version where I can.

Little tip: Do not test your translation patches on ZSNES. It's an outdated and buggy emulator. Use bsnes or snes9x instead. Also, I can't talk to anyone in the first room and saves do not work. Still, it's a good start!

A user on GameFAQs named x_loto did a fully translated script for FF1 a while back.

It's a bit rough around the edges, but it could help you a lot. He also did a translated script for the first 3 Dragon Quest games that ChickenKnife used as a basis for his Delocalized editions.

Personal Projects / Re: Secret of Mana: Relocalized
« on: June 24, 2019, 08:57:42 pm »
I just wanted to let you know that KWhazit has been doing notes for Secret of Mana here and there are plenty of mistakes within the official translation:

Here are the more notable mistakes he found so far. I'm using the original Woolsey script here by the way since your patch is based of it.:

Luka should be Rusa Luka, a reference to the rusalka, a water spirit in Slavic mythology.

Each cannon travel brother has a different laugh and speech quirk.

It will grow and regain it's power just like your Mana Sword. - Secret of Mana
This is incorrect. The Japanese version says that it will evolve its power ALONGSIDE the Mana Sword.

The Goblins speak in katakana, which KWhazit decided to translate with all caps and broken English.

Goblins: You look delicious! ...SHRIEK!

Another mistake here. The goblins are supposed to do an evil cackle.

The Empire attacked us once about 15 years ago.

This is incorrect. What she is actually referring to was a full on war. The quote should be "Their was a big war against the Empire about 15 years ago."

Watts does not say that the axe is worthless. He just says that the axe doesn't seem to work.

Elinee did not dispatch Pandora's citizens, as they are found near the shrine later on. She really enfeebled them, or made them weaker.

I have been trading the villagers for Thanatos's herbs.

This is incorrect. In reality, this is what she said.
I've been getting the herbs to preserve my magic from Thanatos in exchange
for enfeebling the townspeople.
Elinee's warp outside her castle is actually her using the last of her magic.

Undine:Your Mana Sword will one day become more powerful than any magic.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. She is actually saying that the one who uses the Mana Sword cannot use magic, as it would clash with the sword's power, potentially killing Randi.

Undine:The user of the Mana Sword cannot use magic. If the wielder of the Mana Sword ever used magic, it would clash with the sword's power, causing you to meet an untimely end.

Emperor Vandole's four generals are known as the Shitennou, or the Four Heavenly Kings, a recurring concept in Japanese media originating from Buddhism. My suggested translations for this title are Four Fiends (used in FF4), the Elite Four (used in Pokemon), or the Four Horsemen (possibly the Shitennou's closest counterpart in western mythology.)

The Scorpion Gang are based on the Doronbo Gang from Yatterman, which popularized the Terrible Trio trope. KWhazit translated them as Team Scorpion, referring to Team Rocket, which are the most notable example in the English speaking world.

"GONTMA" means goodbye!

A little type here. The word should be Ognatam, which is Matango backwards.

A playable boss hack for these SNES and Genesis fighters WITHOUT easy move. Cause sometimes, I want to play the game with the original special move commands, but not have to enter a long ass code to unlock the bosses. Plus, it would be useful for tournaments.

Yes, Cell did absorb #18, but he still referred to himself with male pronouns.

Personally, I think the Link to the Past font looks the best. Also, I have three minor corrections.

1. The word form in "Perfect form" and "android" needs to be capitalized.
2. Cell is always referred to with male pronouns in the Japanese manga, the anime and all dubbed versions of said anime. The only piece of media that refers to him with gender-neutral pronouns was VIZ Media's translation of the manga, which has plenty of flaws itself and was written by a registered sex offender. (No, I'm not making this up.) Not to mention the fact that his cells are all comprised from male characters.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden games
« on: January 13, 2019, 06:52:59 pm »
The PAL version of Super Butoden 2 (Dragon Ball Z 2: la L├ęgende Saien) has Goku and Broli unlocked from the start, but the versions of Super Butoden 1 and 3 still have SSJ Goku and Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks and Perfect Cell and Future Trunks, respectively, locked.

Any plans to make a gag dub patch where you make up the script? This IS Shin-chan after all?

Suggestion: Malroth/Sidoh's title of "God of Destruction" should be refered to as "Destroyer", as FUNimation uses that title for Beerus in Dragon Ball, another Toriyama work.

I have a couple questions for you guys:

I can't decide what to do with a line in Mercado/Cantlin

"Let's exchange my "Portopia" for your "Dragon Quest"

Portopia was another square enix game in Japan apparently so we've got a cultural reference most readers wouldn't understand. What do you guys think I should do with that line? I really don't want to make a cultural reference here but I could say something like "Let's exchange my copy of Final Fantasy for your Dragon Quest.

Portopia was translated by DVD Translations, but I'm fine with localizing it. Just make sure it's another Enix game.

Also, will Ortega's sprite in Dragon Quest III be the Kandar pallet swap from the Japanese version, or the unique sprite from the English version?

A few requests:
* All uses of the word Hercule should be changed to Mr. Satan.
* There should be an optional "faithful patch" that changes all character and technique names to more faithful translations.
* Frieza - Freeza
* Guldo - Gurd
* Jeice - Jheese
* Burter - Butta
* Krillin - Kuririn
* Recoome - Reacoom
* Vegito - Vegetto
* Chiaotzu - Chaozu
* Tien Shinhan - Tenshinhan
* King Kai - Lord Kaio
* Grand Elder Guru - The Great Elder
* Supreme Kai - Kaioshin
* Dabura - Dabra
* Spirit Bomb - Genkidama
* Special Beam Cannon - Makankosappo
* Destructo Disk - Kienzan

You're missing Hokuto No Ken/Black Belt. It has many regional differences.
