My sincerest apologies for not keeping you guys updated. After many missteps, endless worlds of file corruptions, and false starts, this project was finally completed under the name A Link to the Islands.

ROM Information:
Name: Legend of Zelda, The - A Link to the Past (U) [!]
Size: 1,048,576 bytes
Checksum: CRC32 777AAC2F

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Islands is a Wind Waker-inspired hack of A Link to the Past. It was originally called Lyra Islands and developed by SePH in 2004-2005 and was also supposed to include new dungeons, but it wasn't finished. In 2015, I re-started the Lyra Islands project with the goal of finishing the game one day; that day has finally come. I ended up making new overworlds and dungeons in addition to restoring the original LTTP graphics and renaming the project A Link to the Islands.

Here's what to expect:
-New Dark World design (Areas 43, 45, & 47 ONLY!).
-Hyrule Castle re-located.
-Kakariko Town re-located.
-New Lost Woods-style puzzle.
-Eight new dungeons and one mini-dungeon.
-Ganon gets his own tower in the Dark World.
-New monologue and in-game clues.
-New sprites.
-MSU-1 support.
-ASM hacks added.
-New ending cutscenes.
-Customized ending credits.

A few irreparable problems that popped up during development are documented in the readme.

Unlike Parallel Worlds and Goddess of Wisdom, both of which are notorious for their unforgiving difficulty levels, A Link to the Islands is a game that's fair to everyone. There are no super tricks, stunts, or logic (i.e. masked objects, bomb jumping), while still having a decent level of difficulty. Though, some backtracking may be required at times. Still, you won't ever have to use save states. You will not be frustrated while playing.

Seph and/or ghillie did a lot of GFX mods, are you sure they didn't just replace these graphics with something else?

I would look into it but I am currently taking time off from ALttP and have gone so far as to move all of my files and related programs off of my comp. LOL

I posted some screenshots of the Ice Palace awhile back, and believe it or not the exterior graphics are glitched up.

Level-3: Mountain Tower has been further modified, so I thought I'd create a new patch.

** Removed a locked door.
** The Magic Cape is now found on the first floor.
** Removed a shortcut that allowed players to get past the blue bumper in Moldorm's room.
** Removed a fatal flaw that was overlooked when Room #23 was converted to Layout #4; if you fall off the platform in Moldorm's room, you can easily get trapped inside the walls in the room below. If this happens, do a Save & Quit!

This is not an official demo release; I'm simply asking for help fixing the exterior Ice Palace graphics which are messed up. The Pyramid and Castle graphics are also messed up, and so are the overworld staircases.

I tried out your patch with the fixed naming screen, and to be honest with you it has glitches especially after you pick a file from the select screen.

Hey Darklink, I sent over a copy of the ROM with the Title Screen fixed. Check your inbox.

I checked it out already and it looks great. Only problem is the overworld map and dungeons are still in their original state and I don't really want to start over.

I'd really like to fix the title screen myself, translate everything back to English, and change the colors on some dungeons. I may have to release a Version 2.4, then.

Update 27/02/2016: There was an extra key in Level-2 in the first quest, and there were several keys missing in Level-7 and an extra Red Candle. All that has been fixed. Apologies to everyone for the goof up.

In addition, the following improvements have also been made:
** Some caves have been moved around or changed.
** Moved a staircase in Level-1 in the first quest to make way for a bomb capacity upgrade.
** Level-6 (the navy blue-colored dungeon that requires the use of the Ocarina to get into) has been changed back to Level-5, and vice versa. The Old Man with the in-game clue "12 Guards Watch the Ocarina" has also been moved around.
** The first two 2nd Quest dungeons are now completed.

UPDATE 02/26/2016: I added an Ice Palace to the Light World, and the dungeon itself is now accessible even if it's unfinished. It can be accessed via a secret entrance in the Sand Temple, or you can use the Flute to get you there. However, there is a problem; the exterior graphics for the Ice Palace are messed up and I'm looking for someone to help me fix them.

The staircases in the LW overworld are also bugged, and if somebody could also fix them for me that would be great.

Beginning next week, I will review and update the first four Light World dungeons, the Thieves' Hideout mini-dungeon, and the Light World beach village. If everything goes well, the demo version will be ready the Saturday before Easter.

Update 26/02/2016: Here's the latest IPS patch for Lyra Islands. Once again, this is not an official demo release; I'm simply asking for help fixing the messed up exterior graphics for the Ice Palace, and the buggy overworld staircases.

The demo version wll be officially released the Saturday before Easter when I review and update the first four Light World dungeons, the Thieves' Hideout, and the LW beach village.

I received a request to fix this hack. This particular one was abandoned by the Spanish hacker Trifindo some three to five years ago. Only two dungeons were ever completed, the third one was incomplete, and the rest of them were left untouched in their original state. The overworld map was also a mess. All that has been fixed, so that the player can now beat the first quest in its entirety.

Version 2.0: This is a demo version of the hack which fixes the overworld map and the first quest dungeons. The 2nd Quest dungeons will be redone sometime in the near future, and some dungeons may even get new colors in the final version.

Should any bugs or flaws arise, which should be minimal, send me a PM and I will address it ASAP.

I will post screenshots later.

UPDATE 26/02/2016: There were two Magical Boomerangs in the first quest, and the second one (which was found in Level-6) should have been the Magical Rod. A Version 2.2 patch was released to fix this problem. Apologies to everyone for the goofup.

I ran into a problem; I wanted to add a birdstatue to the Light World beach village but to no avail. The bird statue has glitched GFX drawings and may also be bugged. How do I make it so that the bird will appear when I play the flute?

The Sand Temple has been redesigned again. Eventually, the second entrance at 2:42 will go to a brand new Light World area that exclusively serves the Ice Palace dungeon (Lv6).

Hello, everyone. I'm so sorry I've been away for a very long time.

Anyway, the good news is that the demo is almost finished. The first three Light World dungeons are now complete, and Death Mountain is accessible. I have videos for them, here:

Lv1 Lava Lake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxtUBRNKrgI
Lv2 Sand Temple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryls2aSl5Rw
Lv3 Mountain Temple: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnbcPb3dhuE

There is now a fourth Light World dungeon, the Forest Temple.

The Thieves' Hideout mini-dungeon is still under construction, and when that's finished, I will post a new patch.

Sorry for the late post. Anyway, I decided to work on Ganon's Deception one last time. The 2nd Quest dungeons were almost completely redone. The overworld was further modified, some caves were switched around, and secret money amounts offered by Moblins were increased from 45 to 50 and from 120 to 150. Prices have been lowered on some items (i.e. Blue Candle now costs 50 rupees, Fish for 40 rupees, and Slingshot Bullets for 50 rupees). There are three bomb upgrades available in both quests, so the player can carry a maximum of 20 bombs.

Should any unintended bugs arise, please let me know, and I will fix them ASAP.

The patch I provided here earlier was based on a prototype version of the project. The correct version has now been posted, and the old one was deleted. Apologies for the inconvenience. Try clicking on the link again.

The Legend of Zelda: Lyra Islands is a Wind Waker-inspired hack of A Link to the Past, made by SePH sometime in 2004 or 2005 (I'm not sure of the exact date). It features multiple islands and was also supposed to include brand new dungeons.  However, when SePH first released this, only the first Light World dungeon was ever completed, and the rest of them were left untouched, in their original state. Some Light World areas are also bugged, including Death Mountain. I am starting a project to finish the hack, to fix the bugs and glitches in the Light World, and to modify the dungeons with new secrets, tricks, and puzzles. Some help would be gladly appreciated.

UPDATE 1/4/2021: After many missteps, endless worlds of file corruption, and many false starts, this 5-year project was finally finished and released under the name A Link to the Islands. I ended up making new overworlds and dungeons in addition to restoring the vanilla LTTP graphics (instead of using the GFX that SePH had imported in Lyra Islands 1.0). New download link is posted above. Expect to see:

-New Dark World design (Areas 43, 45, & 47 ONLY!).
-Hyrule Castle re-located.
-Kakariko Town re-located.
-New Lost Woods-style puzzle.
-Eight new dungeons and one mini-dungeon.
-Ganon gets his own tower in the Dark World.
-New monologue and in-game clues.
-New sprites.
-MSU-1 support.
-ASM hacks added.
-New ending cutscenes.
-Customized ending credits.

I think I also tried to finish the game a few years ago, and a dungeon seemed to have an illogical layout where Link could get stuck in a wall after the transition between screens, or something similar. This made the game unfinishable...

Nice initiative, Dark Link. I can only presume that the dungeons beyond the fatal bug were also hacked and completed. Or were they left to their original state? If it's the former, then maybe the hack was finished, but only had fatal bugs that prevented the players to progress at some point...

I can help with the technical stuff or ROM offsets. I made an editor for the game, so I know the ROM quite well...

To upload files, try Ze Bucket, it's simpler...

The last two dungeons (Level-8 and Level-9) were left in their original state, as was the 2nd Quest. Level-5 and Level-7 were both incomplete and inaccessible when this hack first came out. The overworld also had restricted accessibility.

The Legend of Zelda: Ganon's Deception is a hack made by an unknown author roughly 10 years ago. In many areas of the overworld, the player will encounter enemies not normally seen above ground, such as Wizzrobes.

Unfortunately, this game was unfinished during it's initial release. I played through the whole game, in and out, and was surprised to discover that Level-5 was not accessable, let alone untouched. The same thing goes for Level-8 and the 2nd Quest. I am starting a project to redo all or part of the dungeons and the overworld. Some help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE 6/25/2015: The 1st Quest has been finished. Level-5, Level-8, and Level-9 have all been redone with new puzzles, re-arranged items, etc. Some overworld screens have also been modified for better accessibility.

Should any bugs arise, please let me know and I'll get to it right away.
