Personal Projects / Re: Pokemon Water Blue Release
« on: March 04, 2020, 11:52:45 am »
There is no Readme included with this hack, since one of the stated goals say "Similar to Fire Red Legends, all Gen 1 and 2 pokemon, including legendaries are available without cheating or trading.", so am I able to use your Readme from your other hack "Pokemon Fire Red Legends" as a pokemon locations guide? Or will there there differences?

TL;DR: Are Pokemon locations that have been altered same or different between "Fire Red Legends" and "Water Blue"?

Just wanted to say that the new alternative font included takes this from a 9.9/10 to an 11/10.

BTW I patched both versions just to compare old vs. new font on my end to 1.01, and for the old, the CRC32 didn't match the readme's, was that correct or a problem on my end?

R.I.P. Bongo. Goodluck to you in whatever you choose to do next! The scene has lost one hell of a hacker.

I saw MaternalBound Redux and went "looks cool, going to check this one out". Then I noticed I already had this sitting in my Hacks folder, marked as v1.0 dating back to 2019-06-26 (when I patched the thing), I looked at the changelog from mine and what in this "new" one and they look identical? Am I missing something here... What are the differences? Are they the same?

Love that trailer, lol at the last bit. Literally in all JRPG's that will happen to you.

Personal Projects / Re: Ultima: Exodus (NES) --- Now released
« on: February 24, 2020, 11:12:36 am »
I saw there was an update for the patcher;

"1. Updated readme to include more detailed patching instructions. 2. Updated xdelta3 command line in batch file to still try to patch a source file with a different CRC32 value."

This is IMO, bad. It's only going to cause you and others headaches down the line when people start patching the game to "bad dumps" and things break. CRC32 should be a lock in, I think the issue is the patcher looks specifically for the exact file name ie. "Ultima - Exodus (U)[!].nes", so if their ROM is called "Ultima - Exodus.nes" or "Ultima Exodus.nes" but have correct CRC32's, it won't patch. I would change it to look for the correct CRC32 or else fail, but file names shouldn't matter, like "123.nes"

My two cents.

Been following your progress on this for quite some time, now super pumped and happy you're finally finished, and cannot wait to sit down and play this.

Great job!

If RMJ wants to update this to 1.8 or whatever then it should just be an addendum and not a replacement for Chaos Rush's work, so what's the issue?

News Submissions / Re: ROM Hacks: Rock n' Roll Racing Hack - version 16
« on: January 20, 2020, 08:37:05 pm »
Was looking at the RHDN Project Page and it says;

ROM / ISO Information:
    Rock n' Roll Racing - v15_alpha_r7 (Hack).bin (GoodGen 3.21)
    MD5: 8F0C169B27355AB1F43ECF5CE921C10C
    SHA1: 56A1DF4B161CABC904B8B33E0AA6562E05605E6D

What the heck is this?

10
Some allege it was due to the ROM hack not being complete, but it was removed without reason and I don't think it's a very judicious decision IMO. Indeed it's baffling.

Considering there are a ton of unfinished, incomplete, barely functional and even broken hacks/translation already on the site and still here, I doubt it was removed for this reason.

EDIT: Guess it's this?

Gaming Discussion / Re: Worst games that hackers fixed
« on: January 18, 2020, 06:40:22 pm »
^^ You shouldn't hate to self-advertise your improvements hacks because those hacks are some of the best out there and fix those games which might not be "broken" technically, but are unenjoyable for sure to anyone who's played both versions or has ears.

12
This looks cool as heck! Basically this is the PB&J of JRPGs for me. Can't wait to try this one out, finally something that isn't an "improvement" type hack, or a.k.a. I edited some words to more my liking.

Why did you updated the "Hack Release Date"... pretty sure I've download this many many months ago....

There's a "Last Modified" field which is kinda the point of keeping track of edits to your hack. BTW which version is this at? Like how many "2.3's" have you released? I've download 2.3 like 3-4 times now I don't know how many secret little edits you've done, not sure if I'm already up to date or not. I'm going to have to start hashing these things...

News Submissions / Re: Translations: Hero Chronicle Fully Translated
« on: December 24, 2019, 05:51:33 pm »
Oh snap! I love me some SNES translations.

I've also heard this is a really hard as far as JRPGs go, has anyone played it? Where does this rank difficultly wise between lets say, Chrono Trigger (Babies first RPG) to The 7th Saga (US) (Nut Cracker)

16
Just use Mesen, it's by far the best emu nowadays for NES. Patched rom works fine with it too.

17
You either review the hack and what it sets out to do, or you don't. It should not be used for your personal opinion/blog postings about how you feel.

If some hack is to restore drinks of "Milk" to the original Japaneses "Beer" and the hack does what it says it does and works without issues, then that's a "YES" recommendation no question, not a "NO" I much prefer the "Milk" because I grew up on the USA version and it has always been "Milk" to me. Like that's cool n' all you like "Milk", and you can continue to do so, but then don't use the hack where the entire point of it is to restore a thing.

Now if those reviews about the blood for example were more like, "I think the blood is over the top here, the author took liberties here and there by adding too much, the blood is distracting, and covers most of the screen at times, making things harder to see and harder to play because of it". That would at least be more acceptable here because it at least addresses some potential gameplay problems that can result of added blood effects, etc.

Reviews should have at least something constructive in them about whatever is being reviewed, that should be like rule #1 for review submissions/approvals.

I guess we need approvals for the approvals now.

18
It was just an example, it's not like you have to go far to find more low quality/low effort reviews, basically all 3 for this game...

https://www.romhacking.net/reviews/4830/

After seeing this necro post recently, I assume there's a certain "quality" standard for hacks, does this not apply to reviews as well? Shouldn't reviews be actually reviews. And I'm not talking broken Engrish here, I realize not everyone is native English speaking, but that's not what this is about and my examples are clearly not pointing to that.

19
There's been a flood of terrible low effort reviews for a while now, I wouldn't even call them reviews, they tell you nothing about the hack/translation, and with some it's very obvious the person doesn't play more then 2 minutes before they give their recommendation.

Are reviews like this even getting reviewed? Why were these accepted in the first place? Whoever let them through the queue, I'd like to hear your reasoning.
