ROM Hacking Discussion / Re: snes neugier 50hz
« on: January 11, 2021, 04:55:29 am »
There are a fair number of games targeted for 50Hz that reliably crash when played at 60, so I'm not at all surprised that the opposite is true. In the case of 50 > 60 my understanding is that the lack of VBLANK time at 60Hz (and 525 lines) is often the culprit; no idea what would cause the reverse issue, but I'm sure it's something arcane and hard to debug.  :(

Can it also be a vblank issue in my case? In 50hz the title screen is blank, music plays, but i can't press any button. If I switch it to 60hz, the menu appears, I can start the game and switch it back to 50hz and it works.

The translation freezes at the main menu in 50hz on real hardware.
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/398/
The same does the japanese rom.
This can be replicated only in zsnes (force as pal in the loading window).
How can this be fixed?

This version requires 8k of sram and the other version requires 16k.
This version also has bigger and more artistic fonts. But the text disappear to fast.

ROM Hacking Discussion / ps2 pss+sub
« on: December 12, 2017, 09:09:12 am »
The game in question is Castlevania Lament of Innocence.
I would like to downsample the pss files (because in Open Loader all the movies are fragmented).
The pss has 2 audio tracks (english and japanese) and subtitles.
Is it possible to mux it back with video, audio and sub?

When the pss file is demuxed with pssplex the audio gets corrupted with lots of static noise. If I use pss_demux v1.05 the audio is demuxed just fine.

Thank you for checking out. My english it's not very good. I've fixed all except:
-lightbulb (not enough space)
-"it" being used twice.

The Option menu was already in english, so i didn't edit it.

Yes, that the script has more to tell than the previous translation because the previous one it's not a translation, just some made up text.

I will update the patch.

9
The format it's fine. Thank you. I've finished the intro. Thing are working nice, but a little slow, since there are codes between the text that determines the actions in the cutscenes.

10
Thank you so much! I can't wait for the text!

Use windhex32. Also make sure to check "view text as unicode".

@gorgyrip: Are you gonna hack the game with a purist translation? If you can do it, good luck   :D

I wouldn't call it "purist", more like a proper translation.

Is this for the Spiderman - Lethal Foes game?

If so, someone already did that one - http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2472/

Please read my post above and compare the english text in bold with the regular english text.

Sorry, I didn't know i wasn't allowed to bump here.
Yes, I know there's already an english patch, but let me show you an exemple from the intro scene. First it's the original japanese text, second (in bold) is the text from the english patch and third is the text the way it should be. Sadly, that's the the only text I have translated.

せいふが かいはつした
じんこうなみ はっせいきを
DR.オクトパスと
そのぶかたちが うばいさった
New York, somewhere, on Manhattan island...
Dr. Octopus and his minions
have made off with a stolen
artificial wave generator
developed by the government.

ニュ―ヨ―クは
スパイダ―・スレイヤ―の
はっせいにより たちまち
こんらんじょうたいとなった
A shadow flies between the buildings at speed...
Due to an outbreak of Spider Slayers,
New York has been left in a chaotic state.

じけんのことを しった
スパイダ―マンは
ニュ―ヨ―クの ビルがいへ
むかった
Peter parker is in a hurry...
Spiderman, on the case, makes his way
to the high-rises of New York City.

Can someone please translate the text from this game?
Here's the text:

I understand now. Thank you for your answer.

My english it's not that great. Sorry about that. Yes, the rom has been patched correctly. Also there isn't any japanese text left. What I was trying to say: the original japanese text compared to the english text it's a lot longer and as you know, when translating from japanse to english, the resulted text it's about 50% longer at least. Also, the first textbox in the unpatched rom has the english text DR. (doctor) between the japanese characters. there's no mention of "doctor" in the english version.
My question to kebep: has the text been translated or has been made up/invented?

Lots of nice stuff this round, and the best 16-bit Spider-Man game got a translation. :D At last...

I don't think it's an actual translation. At the intro there is a lot of japanese text and the english text is very short.
