Personal Projects / Re: Princess Crown (Saturn) English Translation
« on: November 14, 2019, 01:27:16 pm »
Looks awesome, what a pity there are no good Saturn emulators (I mean, the Dreamcast is miles ahead of the Saturn for cripes sake) and the best emu Saturn does have has issues galore.

Maybe in 5 more years...

Kudos for the effort.

Aside from the translation project, is the Yabause emulator also been updated?

I haven't seen that much activity on its Github page.

Not only has it not been updated in ages but I am almost certain it has been abandoned.  It should just be erased from all emulator sites, it is NOT good.  If I can get Skies of Arcadia to run perfectly on various Dreamcast emulators, there is no reason why I should have a plethora of issues with freakin' Albert Odessey on Yabause or SF or the few other poorly done and/or user unfriendly emus for Saturn.  Sad for Saturn as it is a good system but time has not shown it much love especially in regards to emus.

"make this game much more tolerable to play in 2019."
Since when was the game "intolerable" to play?

Oh nice! This sounds like a vastly better experience than the original. Well done!
The original was fine.

ROM Hacking Discussion / Is it possible to convert .srm files to .bin?
« on: September 24, 2019, 02:59:43 pm »
Hi, as the topic states, is it possible to convert a .srm save file for the snes to .bin (Wii VC save game file)?  I am guessing it might be kind of hard, maybe not possible  Have not been able to find much via google.  Thanks.

Hi everyone. Just wondering about Vay and since this is a WD topic, hope I can find a response here, thanks in advance.

I am replaying Vay, I am at the last dungeon and I realize I don't think I have enough resources (healing stuff) to tackle the last boss.  I remember him being hard.  So I want to escape the last dungeon and buy some healing items and more than anything **SAVE** (and save the progress of my grinding)

It seems you can not a. Save inside the last dungeon, or so it seems.  So to save I need to exit the last dungeon? and b. I see that alakazam, the escape spell....doesn't work either in the last dungeon?  I never felt the need to use alakazam prior to the last dungeon btw. (both a and b combined leave me thinking "SERIOUSLY??? For real?"

So, seeing as large parts of this dungeon is a maze, how can I easily get out...Or am I kind of, you know, sc***ed?

As usual, no response, par for the course here it seems.

To the rescue RPG shrine! (forgot about the website for a while).

they have a handy solution for anyone else who is looking (because apparently it is an issue at points in the game including the last dungeon.)

"Save Anywhere

There are points in the game where your progress cannot be saved (like at the crumbling of Aquagale, or inside the Sewers of Penan). There is a way to save while in these predicaments. On your controller, hold left/down and start. The arrow will start to move down. When it comes across the blacked out Save option, press 'A' (while still holding the others), and the Save menu will access, and you can save your progress."

It worked like a charm and I can move on to playing the "unplayable/"BS" difficulty" of Lunar 2: EB.  Currently at Vane, level 28.  Not so hard.  (Most dungeons have a heal statue at the start, you can go back to that first screen without enemies reviving to heal every so often, not so tough!!)

Back to your baseless WD bashing :) so sorry to interrupt play stuff.

Hero Chronicle's technical challenges have largely been ironed out. With the menus done, the game has been handed off for script editing. Here are some screenshots:

Looks super cool!  Is there a lot of grinding and frequent random encounters in this game?

Thanks for the amazing effort with the translation!  It honestly is such a small detail if some name is not "true to the original" or some other minuscule thing like that.  most people don't care and to those who do, do your own translation and stop ragging on someone elses hard work, it is not cool.  If I recall, overly intense nitpicky "fans" already scared someone away from doing more SMT/Persona game translations because too many were huge pricks, lets not scare more fan translators away who do this for free as a labor of love because they don't have to do it and the people complaining certainly won't fill the void, you can bet on that.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Brave Battle Saga / Barver Battle Saga on Steam?
« on: September 06, 2019, 05:16:57 pm »
BBS is a decent game.  That, plus Dragon View...those two games alone make the 1.99 price tag worth it IMO.  Dragon View was incredibly under rated for the snes.  I'd purchase it just for those two, though I'd love to see Beggar Prince thrown in instead of the other 5 that I could not care less about.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Your top 5 least favorite games of all time
« on: September 06, 2019, 02:50:52 pm »
That is very hard.  I think for a game to be "least favorite" you actually have to have some kind of expectation going into it, only to be let down......

I had high hopes going into it for the first time:
1. Bart's nightmare
2. Dennis the Menace
3. Page master
4. Indiana Jones (nes)
5. Pokemon (any of them, for me just sooo over rated).
Honorable mentions: Golden eye and Tomb Raider (sorry not sorry, just find them to get boring quick and, again, over rated).

...Only to be let down.  I was younger so you'd find these types of games thinking they might be cool, only to be let down.

On the flipside, if you know a game is going to be bad (because of reviews or otherwise) and play it and it is bad, well, expectations were already lowered to begin with.  For example Secret of the stars, so although bad, does not qualify as my least favorite because I never expected much and did not get much.

Special RPG only list (I can play almost any rpg, so to make this list, you have to be BAD)
1. Super Hydalide
2. Obitus (really wanted to like this and really tried, but....)
3. Eye of the beholder
4. Dungeon Master (snes)
5. The faery tale
(Honorable mention: Might and magic 3 (snes)).  Now you might think I just don't like first person (rpgs or otherwise) but I enjoyed Kings Field (psx), Shining in the Darkness (genesis), Arcana (snes), did not mind the overworld of Drakkhen/Dragon view and 1st person parts of Persona (psx) to name a few.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Underrated Games
« on: September 06, 2019, 01:58:50 pm »
Good to see so many solid games being mentioned.  7th saga (not nearly as hard as people claim however), Alcahest, Shining souls 2 Ys 5 (don't forget 4) and Brainlord.  I beat Ys 5 and Brainlord again (beaten them multiple times) recently and the puzzles in BL can get downright nasty, especially coupled with some tough platforming maneuvers but happy to say I never really had to go to a FAQ, except to find a few very well hidden hearts.

Loved Lufia 1 and 2 for the snes but could not stand Ruins of Lore for the GBA or Secret of the stars and found Chaos seed (snes) to be over rated.

Cyber Knight 1 and 2 for the snes, once you get the hang of them, are solid games.

Dragon View (snes)

Magical land of wozz is really under rated.  Feda: Emblem of Justice for srpgs too.

Feel like Twisted tales of spike mcfang does not get enough love.

Wandering Souls I did not care for, the game that came before it, Mage Gauntlet was much better.  Better gameplay/flow, better music and sound, better graphics, more natural spikes in challenge, etc.

I really like Star Ocean second Story. seems to get a bad rap from a lot of people i meet. final Fantasy 8 is also just dogged by most people i talk to about ff games. Not exactly sure if i would consider ff8 underrated. Just going by what most people tell me. Also, Alone In The Dark The New Nightmare seems under appreciated. I guess after the enormous effect Resident Evil had on the population, it seemed to "die" away from most peoples thoughts. I play it a lot though.

Well, they don't know what they are talking about and don't like good games because it was received pretty high praise.

Personal Projects / Re: AGTP Translation Megathread

I think the projects I am most looking forward to, in order, are: Rejoice, Granhistoria, Ladystalker, GD Leen, Madara 2 and a little bit Solid runner in that order.  I think the list of snes games to be translated has really shrunk a great deal.  Dynamic designs also has Aretha 2, Oni 2 and Super shell monsters 2 ... and power of the hired looks kind of cool.

I do wonder what is going on with Elfaria 1 and 2, Light Fantasy 2 and especially Traverse Light and Prairie and if other translators have picked those up. Or if Nightcrawler will continue.  but I feel like we are reaching the end for snes non translated games that look at least decent.  We are at maybe a little over a dozen IMO.

As for the lack of updates, he just made one yesterday, about SRW3.  I beat SRW3 when it first came out as an English translation.  Hard HARD game.  I tried to play it recently on an snes mini and the sound, sadly, was all messed up.  I really like that chilled out song for the fights in space.  Not sure why the game did not work well on the snes mini.  Any way, no real point to that story I guess other than seeing that update reminded me of my playthrough.

(one of the best songs on the snes and for sure one of the most chill )

Gaming Discussion / super robot wars 3
« on: May 23, 2019, 12:18:26 am »
I played this maybe 10 months ago and I do not think I posted about it then.

Any way, about Super Robot wars 3.  I admit that I really hated this game. I beat it but I strongly disliked it, that but I was thinking recently, maybe I gave the game an unfair shake. I say this because I went into the game blind and basically had no clue what I was doing (it was my first Super robot wars game ever, I played the other snes aeon genesis translation directly after and that is it). Any way I think I disliked it because I think I leveled up "useless" units or spent too much money or units that are of no help/later turned out useless or, if I recall, some that left. Now I do not think an srpg should ever have units that are just too under powered, but SRW3 does IMO so here we are.

Any way, I want to restart the game again. I beat the first mission with one death and then stopped, because I want to see what people who are more experts have to say before going on:

What units do you recommend building up and spending on along the way? Which ones should I ignore? Are there units further along that will be of use? I want to have a more focused, less blind run through the game.

I got the box of happiness with relative ease.  But something about a mysterious box was mentioned.  Maybe it was bad luck, but on my next run down, I got all the way down to floor 88 without being able to find it.  Is it on floor 99 or is it random and I just had a lot of bad luck?  Hints?

March 25, 2019, 11:34:30 pm - (Auto Merged - Double Posts are not allowed before 7 days.)
Nevermind, figured it out.  I had to talk to the king and respond "No" to his question, then "talk" to the happiness box to open it.  That triggered a 3rd, much harder dungeon.  Harder because you can not take anything from the vault and if you do, it does not appear in the item list.  Plus all of the herbs are unidentified, given random color names, all of the scrolls and staffs are given random animals names and you just have to find a safe place to test them out.  The monsters seem to hit harder, especially starting around floor 10 and defensive gear does not seem to protect as much.  Penalty for some of the negative items is a lot steeper (when you test them out), seems like there are more traps and enemies, seems like less healing items especially elixer, enemies starting around floor 15 seem to hit you a lot more with level down, str. down and HP down though a puppet ring exists to prevent against those 3, it is hard to find.  Since you go into each dungeon totally new it is really based on luck.  When I finally beat it it just so happened because I was lucky enough to find a metal babble sword early on, a dragon shield and a bunch of "uppers" kept appearing on the first 15 floors.  Plus I also got a puppet ring and a lot of bread scrolls which turn negative items into bread.  Some trips are not so lucky.  Found the mystery box on the 30th floor.

There is a ultima scroll on floor 99 of the second dungeon but once you talk to the king, say no and open the happy box not sure you can go back to that dungeon and get it.  Ultima scroll sells for 60,000.

Don't be sorry, you tried and that is what matters.  Most Americans don't even speak a second language.

Thanks!! That helped.

I have made quite a bit of progress since that post.

I just finished a job where I had to supervise a concert in the desert. Ended up going in some tunnels under the stage and finished that job.

Now I need to track down a book for the library and I am confused. When I see who I think I need to see, they acknowledge the book, mention Brad but ask to see...a box? And I never get the book. How do I finish this mission and is the game that much longer?

Stuck again.  I talked to Diana, she tells me to go far to the North West to a cave for lapis. In the cave one guy mentions he is digging for lapis ..than I get the single treasure and go back to Diana and nothing ...the sister is not at the home base or rogue town. How do I advance this mission, please.

Gaming Discussion / Stuck in nige ron pa (neo geo color rpg)
« on: January 03, 2019, 08:13:46 am »

Happy holidays.  I know, a totally random game. I can't find any English FAQs and can't make sense of the English translation of the one faq orginally in Japanese.

I have no clue how to advance the game!  I passed the check point and got to a town called, I think  Scarf where I am told the road to tunic is blocked, where ever that road is.  Some guy named nocoru asks me to help with delivering some stuff but when I go to the archaeology site I am told I can't enter.  Going back to previous towns yeilds no results...any ideas?  I also have a love letter I need to deliver to a tower but can not get back in since the guy tells me I can't take the test (again).  I already got classes(?) for the two characters. well, Thanks.

Thanks a lot, few questions on gameplay
I see party members come and go in this one.  I don't want to invest too much on equipment and magic if a member is going to leave so when do you get your final party, at what town or dungeon or point in the game?  What are the names of those party members so I can finally splurge on equipment and magic on them.

Also just got out of the mountain and gave that girl a medical herb and still don't get how to use items in battle. I have not purchased magic yet because again, not sure of end game party, so is it easy to cast?

Thanks.  Cool mid 90s handheld RPG btw, great translation!

News Submissions / Re: Translations: Shin Megami Tensei if... v1.00
« on: October 31, 2018, 12:00:34 pm »
I finished this on Saturday Nov. 10 but want to post my end game stats in case anyone is interested.
(Perhaps this will give folks an idea on the minimum required level to beat the game or help to avoid too much grinding):

Main character:
Level 54
HP: 687
STR: 23
INT: 11
MAG: 16
STM: 26
SPD: 22
LUK: 10
Guardian: Astaroth (level 65)
My stats went all haywire when I switched to that specific guardian and I lost quite a bit of strength and HP but INT and MAG went up a lot! I waited until the bar was red and totally filled before dying at level 54...

Equip: (nothing special, most likely): Longinus, M134 Vulcan, Jagd helm, tetrajammer, parade glove, jagd leg, nerve bullet

Level 54
HP: 454
STR: 15
INT: 25
MAG: 27
STM: 17
SPD: 14
LUK: 6
Guardian: Dominion (level 52)
Equip: (nothing special, most likely): Shamshir, golden gun, panzer helm, panzer suit, panzer fist, panzer leg, nerve bullet

Seiryu: Level 48, 866 HP, useful for rakukaja especially
Chernobog: Level 46, 898 HP, one of his skills was useful
Byakko: Level 47, 765 HP, THANK YOU FOR ESTOMA
Cu Chulainn: Level 43, 586 HP, Tarukaja/Tetraaja were super useful. I think deathblow did great damage too.

Overall the last dungeon did not present much of a challenge when I was finally ready to tackle it (thanks estoma and trafuri, like really, thanks so much) and the last boss went down very easily for me. I do not remember what 2 minions of the 4 above did good damage but two of them did. I had one of those minions do a critical of 899 and another one did a critical of 699 but most of the time they did multi hits for around 240 to 260. Other than that damage was between 75 to 100 for the other four but most of the time, thankfully, were multi hit. I know the main character closed in on 100 after a bunch of the -kaja attack boosts....Not even sure if the -kaja and -raja spells stack, seems like they did to an extent but I had one and sometimes two demons who basically sat their casting those most turns because..whatever... but Yah, the damage was in those ranges or something like that, don't totally remember, I was just soooo ready to end this game long before I even got to the school (try the end of the sloth dungeon).

So yah, if you are like me and NEED to finish every single rpg you start, even if you dislike it and feel the same as I did about this game and are looking for a decent idea of the minimum needed to beat it, go for AT LEAST what I have give or take 2 or 3 levels...perhaps the game can be completed around level 48-50 even or maybe even a little lower, would not be shocked, in fact go for it at level 50, I am sure it is pretty easy with estoma by your side and it saves at least an hour of griding! Any way with my current set up I NEVER felt threatened though it was kind of a long battle because the last boss had so much HP and I had to use 1 or 2 Charka pots or whatever it is that heals MP but otherwise he never hurt me all that much.

Now that I beat this "gem" I feel I can freely state it is pretty darn bad, repetitive, a huge chore and it p*$$es me off how much the translating group responsible for this game was hounded considering how bad it is....I kept thinking as the end credits rolled "dear god they have no idea how bad this was in the end...All that fuss over...this? Come on."

Congrats on the release and sorry about the @$$h@ts giving you a tough time about this game, some of which even have the audacity to post on twitter making their idiocy public to all.  Just the same, most of us, the silent majority and those who post infrequently because we have a life instead of hounding people like you for a release date are very happy and thankful!  We know you do this as a hobby, for free and out of a labor of love so we are glad to see anything!
