Title: Final Fantasy V Pixel Freemaster. (Updated V4.50 download link in post)
Post by: Nintenja on July 20, 2022, 12:21:51 AM
To get right to playing v4.50 visit https://archive.org/details/final-fantasy-v-pixel-freemaster-v2.0  (And patch to a ffv (japan)rom.) It's that easy.
To see a video of gameplsy footage of this hack: https://youtu.be/KBVWcVsCpwo

This is a great time to play this version as it is loaded with QOL Features and I feel pretty content at the moment with where the hack currently is.
I'm taking a break to work on improving my ASM skills and knowledge and to test/work on Trials of Mana-Pixel Freemaster, Terranigma-Pixel Freemaster, and TMNT-Turtles in Time-Cowabunga Correction. Hopefully I'll be able to expand greatly upon these games in the future and also be able to refine FFV-Pixel Freemaster with some never before seen features I would like to implement in the future.

If you don't know what this project is, than it is my attempt at an ultimate version of FFV. I want this to be the definitive must play unofficial but better than the cash grab official release version of FFV. Included in this project is tons of different hacks and QOL features from many different authors..if it fits..it sits..in one of the easiest all in one patches you'll ever apply.

====UPDATE V4.50=====
Thank you to User Tombo69 who tested and discovered a config menu cosmetic bug which didn't effect but it is now fixed.

Project officially called Pixel Freemaster..tons of new QOL stuff. 12 new QOL features introduced since v3.0. Two versions exist..both with every included hack but the Kick Butz Edition has the All Jobs Unlocked Patch included also.
=========================
This is an all-in-one single .ips patch.
Patches used in Final Fantasy V-Pixel Freemaster include:
MSU1 patch by Conn v4
GBA translation v1.16 patch w/Inu bugfixes patch
Bartz Name Fix v1.0 patch+Bug Fix v1.0 patch
quick death v1.0 patch (?not sure if this is included)
Galuf hair fix patch
Sprite touchups v1.03 patch
auto learning patch+auto dash patch
2x XP,ABP,GIL patch
Better item Menu v1.0 patch
auto find pits patch+auto map patch+auto passages patch
shop price changes v1.0 patch
treasure monster change v1.0 patch
better job equipment v2.1 patch
*Added in version 3:
Switch characters in battle using X button (ATB Switch)
L and R switches characters & screens in Menu
Increased menu scroll speed
Dash on world map field with B button
Display total number of item slots used in item menu
HP displayed changes color as HP percentage decreases
*Added in Version 4:
Equipment optimization
New game plus (press L+R on load saved game screen)
*Added in v4.33-v4.50
equip change  (Automatically collects items that were removed due to equipment changes during battle)
equip change fix patch
Fixed cosmetic bug in configuration menu.

Patches added in FFV-Pixel Freemaster-Kick Butz Edition
All patches and fixes listed  above in Pixel Freemaster
+all Jobs unlocked v1.0 patch
*(note all Jobs unlocked doesn't go into effect until after you receive your first set of jobs in the story. Also Galuf's MIME job Sprite was never programmed into FFV game files-therefore when selecting MIME as Galuf's job he will be fully functional and usable, but invisible in the battle and menu)

::::::::::INSTRUCTIONS:::::::::::::
1. Download patch v4.50 (7zip) from:
https://archive.org/details/final-fantasy-v-pixel-freemaster-v2.0
2.  Choose version (all Jobs not unlocked or Kick Butz-all jobs unlocked)
3. Patch to unheadered Final Fantasy V (japan) rom
4.  Use MSU1 files if you want to for Stereo Sound (optional)
====================
Make sure to follow each rom hack author included in this work and thank them for their contribution if you get the chance.(see readme for credits)

I hope you find some good use out of this version and enjoy all the QOL improvements it provides. Best way to experience this is with MSU1 audio. I hear there's even a pixel remaster MSU1 Pack out there somewhere.

Thank you to all authors included in this work,amazingly all your individual patches each filled an important role in what to me is just the best way to experience this classic.

Alternatively follow T92 and his FFV-Tweaks romhack https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6789/..
Honestly T92 is an awesome hacker and I see his FFV Tweaks eventually exceeding this one bc of his skills of customization and porting are greater than mine. But I'll keep trying to make this version better and better anyways..I don't think we can have too many versions of this great game.

==========================
Also try out my other hack Mario Kart-Super Circuit-Freemastered v2.0 compilation hack...an actual collection of other patches that will probably be downloadable from RHDN before this one ever will sadly. https://archive.org/details/mario-kart-super-circuit-freemastered

Hi all!

First things first: thanks for the time to collect all these patches and bring them to us together as an easy way to apply.

I've been playing for some hours (just finished first world, levels 20-22) and I think there is something wrong (or maybe it's intended to work like that, although I don't think so).

Everytime I try to equip a weapon (str or agi) such as swords, axe, lance, blades, bows and so on... the damage is almost nothing (20-30 points only, when on a clean rom is as usual, let's say 150-300). That made me play as monk (or barehand) with my str classes till now.

I guess it must be something related to "Weapon Formula Tweaks v1.3" patch, or maybe I'm missing something.

Any clue why this happens?

Cheers!

Yeah. Formula tweaks has that bug for some reason on non-vanilla ROMs.

The rules exist to protect the site from being sued out of existence. Like them or not, they exist to protect the site.

Wasnt just a submission of other patches..a lot of work actually went into making all these things and msu1 work together..conn the creator of the msu1 patch was actually impressed i put this together. Link for version 4.0 patch is https://archive.org/details/final-fantasy-v-pixel-freemaster-v2.0
Honestly it feels kinda diminishing what they put as the reason but whatever I'll keep working on it making it better all the way up to version 5.0 bc i feel like the community needs it.

Apparently this project will never be postable to RHDN for download as getting this many permissions to use each individual hack is shaping up to be impossible. Especially since the mods told me I'd need each author whose work is featured here not just to give me permission but to update his or her read me or hack download page to make their work open source basically.

At this rate this hack will never be posted here. But hey, v3.0 patch is posted to zeldix, archive.org,fantasyanime,and I think some kind of site about Romance with compact disks posted it too..:)

I'm a bit confused by this. We have had all these Redux hacks released over the last few years, they often consist of many different existing hacks. I'm a bit puzzled how FFV freemaster is different from these? Is it that nothing new is added to this hack and it's only a compilation of existing work? Just a genuine question. :huh:

Thanks for your question. It's a compilation of a ton of existing work..obviously as everything and everyone's amazing work is credited for their contribution in the read me and info page. No hiding that fact.. i don't think i could ever have created this many different hacks or even would have the desire or time or creativity to do it. I saw an amazing community effort With a ton of individual separate patches and started putting things together best i could for a personal ultimate version and there were some issues but ffv was improved in my mind and beatable so I decided to release it. That version was considered a compilation by a mod bc I only credited myself for testing/compiling and hadn't gotten permission to use each hack from each author(the real reason it was pulled down).it was more than a compilation but obviously mostly was a compilation,so honestly I kinda  just decided to dive right in and I did additional work with some of the hacks where I could and also the MSU1 compatibility merging things together and tweaking,than of course a ton of hours playtesting and some small bug fixes/anti patches to remove or add some bug fixes/recompiling almost from scratch and than playtesting. Luckily seems this game has more Mostly compatible(w a little help) hacks than darn near any other game I've tried to do this for. Most hacks are exactly what I wanted them to be which is awesome too in this case. It's A real passion project kinda. Maybe a little obsession involved..lol. I even roadmapped for version 4 and 5. Which will be the final versions...sometime..they won't be incredibly different as so much has already been added.but I will be going back through and attempting to fix a cosmetic bug(this will take time) that I just can't live with being a part of the Final builds permanently and adding in by default a fully playtested working new game plus mode (in version 5). Ive been slowly getting each modm authors blessing for the project including t92 and conn..inu's patches were huge in version 3.0 and probably the Final 2 versions will have me implementing more of his work and making sure it doesn't break everything else. I'm gonna have to update my own credit from just compiling/testing on v1.0 to hacking/bugfixing/compiling/testing at this point in the project.thanks for your question.

A bit of a side-step, but since you are so passionate about FFV. The Boss Fight book about FFV is a fantastic read about the development of the game and (especially) the player community around it.

Thought about it, but it is way more fun to create a Rom hack!  :)

I agree..it is fun..I think it's time for a ton of definitive editions of these classics. Too many individual patches and hackers. Every classic game needs one killer version.
