Shiren 2: Oni Invasion! Shiren Castle!
Now in English!!!

Two and a half years in the making, SharkSnack and Ozidual are proud to present the English translation of Shiren 2: Oni Invasion! Shiren Castle! for the N64.

Follow 10-year old Shiren and his companion Koppa as they work to protect the Village of Napus from a terrible enemy. Climb mountains, float down rivers, journey through dungeons and maybe find paradise. But be careful! One wrong move and you could be sent back to the beginning with nothing more than your companion Koppa.

Shiren 2 is the 3rd game in the Mystery Dungeon series which began with Torneko's Great Adventure and includes such popular series as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon and Chocobo Mystery Dungeon. Like a simpler version of Dark Souls, you will die and lose items from time to time but you will continue to progress. As frustrating as that can be it is a very rewarding game and saving Napus Village is only the beginning. Later on there is a whole monster collecting/leveling system with over 160 monsters. Not too surprising since Creatures, Inc. (makers of Mother and Pokémon games) had a hand in developing Shiren 2.

Very cool! If I'm not mistaken, only the GB games are left to translate in this series now, unless I'm misremembering something. I really liked the newest game in the series, thanks for all your hard work!

Had issues finding a rom with the correct hash.

You have to convert the .n64 rom (MD5 = E520452C07479FA6A059346919340764) to .z64 and then it will work. You can do this using Tool64. Convert it to big endian and the hash should match.

Almost correct. We're still waiting on 4 to be translated, though someone on these very forums is apparently plugging away at both the PSP and DS versions of it, and they last updated their top post in the thread about it in April this year, so it's been a while since the last update, but it's far from "dead and gone" status, just not finished.

And yeah, aside from that there's the GB titles, though I imagine if someone was going to put in the effort they'd probably go for the DS remake of the second. I'm here for either way though. I love Gameboy games and Mystery Dungeon, so if anyone wants to jump on those two I'll gladly add them to my collection.

Thanks for the kind words! And yeah, there are a few more Shiren games that could use an English patch:

GB and GB2 are being worked on by Grimm, and the latest news is that GB is close to completion.

Shiren 4 is being worked on by me and Arc Impulse (with contribution from DhrGR), and is ~60% complete. I had set it aside to focus on Shiren 2 with Ozidual, so now that we've released this, I'll get back to working on 4 full time. (Only the PSP version for now though, the DS version's limitations became too frustrating to work with)

I had started Asuka Kenzan (Dreamcast version) years ago, but didn't get far at all, so that one is up in the air whether or not it'll happen. I'd be glad to translate it if a hacker appears.

DS2 has a really old incomplete English patch on gbatemp, but the project was abandoned so I think that game would need a fresh start if someone wants it to happen.

I think the GB games were also being worked by Tom (or some of those ones).

Anyway, this release is indeed AMAZING!  Congrats and thanks a HUGE lot to the people involved in such an achievement

Thanks for all the hard work. Not sure why but I am thinking it is my rom but I keep getting a "This patch is not intended for this rom" Error... Any tips?

Thank you for translating this game! This was one of the games I most wanted to be translated. I did cleared 1 (SNES) and 3 (PSP) Shiren games (and 8 other non Shiren MD games), and wanted to play in other Shiren games, but was unable too since they was untranslated (I can speak on Japanese, but I almost can't read on it).

This is hype, it's nice getting more of the very few N64 RPGs (Roguelike/lite in this case) translated.

There is a Nice one only released for the Dreamcast/PC too (Gaiden)

Oh the PC one is also on Dreamcast? Shame that there is no hacker for now. 6th gen consoles seem like a huge nightmare. Best of luck <3

I waited so long for Shiren the Wanderer 2 translation patch! Because I played Densha de Go! 64 and know that there is some crazy hacker who translate every N64 game! Several years of waiting passed - and here it is!

Thanks for the kind words! And yeah, there are a few more Shiren games that could use an English patch:
Spoiler:
  • Shiren GB
  • Shiren GB2
  • Shiren 4
  • Shiren Gaiden - Asuka Kenzan
  • Shiren DS2 (Remake of GB2)
Don't forget about BS Shiren! (Shiren downloadable game for SNES modem)

Is it possible to play this on Project64? I have all sort of problems. Flashing screen everytime a dialogue pops up, flashing screen during certain points of the game(like crossing bridges). Some plugins will make it flash black, and some will make it flash blue. Certain plugins will make fonts look broken and stuff. If any of you guys play it on Project64, any recommendable plugin for me to try? Although I think I have tried every one.

Those issues certainly sound odd - never encountered them during testing.

I'd recommend giving this a try:

If that isn't enough, maybe try downloading a fresh portable version of Project64 and repeat the steps to see if something in your current settings is conflicting with things.
