Title: How to hack the Super Mario Kart title screen
Post by: Googie on February 14, 2021, 01:13:10 pm
A good friend of mine had been helping out with some of my projects behind the scenes, and one hack I want to bring to life is a hack of Super Mario Kart called Googie Toons Racing. So I made this thread cause I know very little 16bit hacking, I edited levels in Super Mario World years ago and made a few levels for Bust A Move for SNES.

How can me and my friend edit the title screen? He told me that all he can find in the ROM are the racers, if any of you fellas that dabble in the art of 16bit please help us out, we'd really appreciate it.  :cookie:

Hi Googie,

A lot of the data in Super Mario Kart is compressed. You can decompress it using Epic Edit (the codec function). The exact offset of the title screen and all other compressed graphics are all documented in the online doc Stifu and I made. You can find that here:

https://epicedit.stifu.fr/smk_doc/

Data on the title screen can be found here:
https://epicedit.stifu.fr/smk_doc/pack7-title.htm

I would also recommend to join the SMK Workshop Discord. Lots of cool members there who could help you in an instant with all your questions!

You can ask Dirtbag for an invite!  :)
