Title: [GB] Colorizing Mario's Picross and Picross 2
Post by: Homer177 on September 23, 2020, 02:14:26 pm
Hello everyone.

I guess you could say I've decided to put Donkey Kong Country 2 for GBA on hold for now. I'd actually like to try my hand at colorizing the original Gameboy Picross games (Mario's Picross and Picross 2). Are there any good dev resources than can explain a bit on the process when it comes to colorizing such games?

Just to clarify, will you be attempting to colorize the English Translation of Picross 2?

There are numerous threads on the subject.

Ultimately you need to be able to insert all-new code into the ROM, and there is no straightforward way of doing so.

(I suddenly recall that Demiforce once released an open-source GBC Picross clone called Drymouth and that it might be easier to work backwards and insert the Mario's Picross content into that – but I can't seem to find much information about it and as I dimly recall, he said the code wasn't particularly well-documented anyway.)

Yes, that's a goal for this.

Yeah, I'm literally just starting out with romhacking and I'm looking for something that might be a better starting off point.
