Title: Remove intro video from PSX game and rebuild the ISO
Post by: DonPatchi on November 21, 2018, 10:31:23 pm
Hello, i'm looking to remove a short intro video (STR) from a PSX game and i want to rebuild it as bin/cue afterwards.
The goal of this is that i want to play this game on a PSP but the PSP gets stuck when this logo is supposed to play.
So if i could delete it form the game maybe the PSP could skip it run the game.

So basically i need something like UMDGen but for PSX.
I'm not sure if the game will work after removing this intro (who knows?) but i must try  ::)

Surely if you just remove the video the game will look for it, not find it, and crash. On the PC the classic method has always been to replace the video with an empty file, that way the game still finds the right file but there's nothing there.

So in Windows you could just make a new plain text file, rename it to the same name as your video, and replace the video. It might work, you never know. :D

EDIT: looks like I misunderstood the query: I thought you'd already remade the ISO after removing the video and it got stuck. I think mz's suggestion is better then. :)

Try any of these tools:

I did it with CDmage, created a new 0KB "txt" file and re-named the same as the video (.STR) and inserted it, when asked about the different in sizes i chose to pad with zeroes. But the game crash when it's supposed to play. Not padding with zeroes makes no difference.

I think modifying the video file is no good.

I would need a way to tell the game not to play it.  :-\

That sounds like it won't be easy to do without any knowledge so might as well give up now.

Thanks for helping me.

Before giving up completely, you could try with the tools I linked first. I've done this a few times before [1] and it has always worked (which doesn't mean it will always work for all games, of course).

Just rip everything with PSXImager's psxrip.exe and then modify the .cat file to remove the movie files. Then just build the new image with psxbuild.exe.

[1] When I'm hacking/translating, I don't want to waste time skipping or watching movies.

I tried it took a 600 MB bin and produced a 81 MB bin.
I guess it doesn't work with multi-track games?

I would suggest you a simpler solution: track down the video player and create an action replay code to disable it. Works better than trying to rebuild the ISO until it works again.

I don't know what that is but i need to rebuild the iso to make an eboot out of it.
