Title: [NES] Chip and Dale 1 - Gadget hack
Post by: Zus on October 20, 2016, 07:16:11 AM
Hello everyone.

Ever wanted to play as Gadget? :)
This hack gives you the ability to rush through the game either as Gadget or Foxglove.
Also changed the plot and replaced some text, title/cutscene/select screen graphics for consistency.

No changes to the gameplay at all.
I planned to tweak physics, build levels, but since I'm the very newbie at romhacking, those ideas are really far from completion :)
The goal of this graphic mod is IMO achieved, so I decided to place it here, before trying to submit to the database
Any criticism of suggestions are appreciated.
Hope at least someone will get some joy from the hack :-)

I don't know who foxglove is but those colors dont match gadget at all. Consider changing them.

Foxglove the bat is a side character who only appeared in one episode. She was working for the villain and was a potential love interest for Dale. However, she never appeared again afterwards.

Thanks for replies.
About colors: I'd like to make Gadget colorful and everything, but there's a dilemma.
There are basically 2 colors and they aren't really changable

A. Simple red->blue replacement in palette 0 does look shitty and definitely affects the 2nd player, crates and other objects.
B. Can't rely on palettes 1,2,3 Changing them will also require redrawing some of the enemies (and most likely blue Zipper).
C. To add a color to the character I have to use overlays. I haven't learned it yet how to change the sprites' structures +  I need spaces in both PRG and CHR
I think it would also cost minus one character :-\

That's why I posted it here. Any useful tip/ advice/ help would be appreciated

Thanks! Yes, I've been thinking about changing some physics and level re-design
By the way, maybe this method will help in releasing a palette

Use Cad editor for levels

This isn't bad, and should have been released to the RHDN database.
