Title: I am a new translator looking to get some experience under my belt
Post by: meikyoushisui on May 02, 2014, 01:13:58 am
Hello! I am a translator looking to get a project under my belt -- preferably a game I would enjoy playing! (RPGs!)
All I require is a complete script dump and someone to make my English more pretty when I am done with it.

Let me know if you'd like me to help!

What's your type of game?

Have you checked out the Help Wanted ads (http://www.romhacking.net/helpads)?

Be careful with ads that say things like "most of the work is done." If it were then they probably wouldn't need to post the ad.

As a translator you would probably want to look for an ad that said something like "script has been extracted" "needs translated" "insertion is ready to go as soon as the translation is done."

Practice is good. Very good. But try not to start too big (a megabyte of words is pretty darn big, I’d say). You’ll probably get worn out by the sheer size of the task. Remember, it’s a thing some people do as their gainful employment!

I'm pretty sure Bongo` over at http://dynamic-designs.us (http://dynamic-designs.us) is always looking for new translators ;)

I'm not to worried about size -- I've been doing interpretation in a professional setting for a couple years.

I looked at the Dynamic Designs site but can't get on the forum now. Maybe I'll jump of their new project.

There's also the Abandoned projects off to the left, there.

You should try Romancing Saga 1 & 2.  :D

I know that StorMyu has so many projects on his hands that I assume he could always use some more translators. I think more people post about what they're currently working on over on GBATemp in either the DS Romhacking and Translations section or the PSP Games and Content section. It might be good to poe your nose around there or as people mentioned before, in the abandoned projects section.

I can't promise any of these games are hackable, but I have scripts for some RPGs:
Bushi Seiryuuden Futari no Yuusha (http://www.romhacking.net/games/265/) (~30% translated)
Ihatovo Monogatari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ihatovo_Monogatari)
Traverse - Starlight & Prairie (http://www.romhacking.net/games/380/)

I've also checked dozens of games to see if they have uncompressed scripts, meaning they should be pretty simple to script dump. (some of these games may already be in progress by others, sorry)
Light Fantasy 2
Tottemo Luckyman
Down the World
Wizap
Sansara Naga 2
Dream Maze
Gaia Saver
沙の章
ダンザルブ
Slapstick
Kachou shima
Jantei Monogatari
Xak
Tenchi souzou
Ginga Sengoku
Bakumatsu Oni
Trinea

Are you saying all of those games you listed are confirmed to be uncompressed? Or are those just the games you checked. A reference list like this could be useful to save time when starting a new project for newcomers and old-timers alike.

The list is of games I've personally confirmed to have uncompressed scripts. Most of the games on the list also have uncompressed fonts, so it would be easy to make the table files.

ダンザルブ http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=danzarb
Slapstick - Localized as Robotrek
Tenchi souzou - Localized as Terranigma

TBH Terranigma had a shoddy translation job (not only location names, but also the script butchered to fit in space limitations), and a whole quiz minigame about Quintet games removed.

Bushi Seiryuuden Futari no Yuusha. Nice looking game. Nice game play too.
Uses a scripting engine which can turn into a headache for a hacker. :(
Compression was not too bad. Have fun with that one. :D

I can't promise any of these games are hackable, but I have scripts for some RPGs:
[...]
Ihatovo Monogatari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ihatovo_Monogatari)
[...]
Do you still have the script for this game?
