has anyone here heard about this ?
youtube link:
http://youtu.be/AsVgQ8zNh-s
it looks like a group a japanese people did a really huge romhack of romancing saga 3 for the SNES !!
i have the patch and game now...and it is very huge...an almost ridiculous amount of content has been added to this game >_<"
this hack is all in japanese...though very fun to play...if anyone is interested in helping translate this SNES hack into english, please shoot me a message !!
-
That does indeed look awesome.

@MontyMole yeah some of the new attacks and animations are insane !!
check out this video :

@creeperton ha ha, i really missed playing with gustav...and yes, more or less all of the major SaGa characters from past games are in this game.
* and a really large number of them can be recruited *
well RS3 was translated into english by two different group a few years ago.
hmm...load.jp ?
can you tell me more about this ?
but anyhow, i have the patch file...should i upload it here or make a page about it ?
-
Those translation patches aren't compatible with the major Japanese RS3 hacks. RS3 mixes event commands in with its main text. Mana Sword's translation and the bigger RS3 hacks conflict since they both modify the script.
The best source that I know for RS3 hacking info is romancing@wiki (http://www3.atwiki.jp/romancing/).
You might want to ask magno (http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1000). He's dumped the Japanese script and Mana Sword's English script. Though, since the Japanese hacks add additional event commands, whatever script dumper/inserter he uses might not be enough.
-
@Break: you mean you have the patch file for the hack the videos? If so, please post! It looks insanely good. Thanks!

And I mirrored loda.jp a few months ago, if anyone wants it. IIRC, that was the Romancing SaGa modding site.
loda.jp was really more of a general file hosting service from what I understand. While they used it as one of their main upload places at one point, currently the Japanese RS3 community has its own file uploaders, SagaUpLoader (http://saga.heliohost.org/cgi-bin/upload.cgi) and SagaUploader2 (http://romancing.symphonic-net.com/).
There's a third one, ああろだ(ああβはこちら) , listed on the RS3 thread at gameurawaza, but I think it's associated with one of the major RS3 hacks. Also, the download speeds from there are ridiculously low for me for some reason.
There's no way in hell you can make a newb-friendly "editor", similar in function to editors for other games, because - as you and I both know - the SaGa games weren't made the same way as other games. I need to make something that works exactly the way that Square's tools worked, if I want to build a community around modding SaGa games.
I was mostly just hoping for "Extract Japanese mod's script, translate, re-insert".

GODAMN i wish this game was in English.
There is no 100% RS3 translation. Id rather play the original before playing the japanese hacked one.

anyhow, did anyone want to get together and work on translating the japanese hacked one ?
-
The big issue is that there's a few graphics untranslated, and that the font is kind of a cheat (2 8x16 tiles pasted onto each 16x16 tile), so it requires a ZSNES savestate hacking program to un-T E R R A N I G M A the player's name. :P

I doubt it since This is a very hard game to translate and if i'm not mistaken, the original english translation team (mana sword) is dead, it's a shame cause the hack it's pretty well done and has some great music ported from other SaGa games. Magno is currently translating this game to spanish so maybe he can help.

YES! i will enjoy it in ye old spanish one day!!! Just like I did with XAK 1, and Captain Tsubasa 3, the only other Japanese to Spanish translations that exist.
-
Yes, magno is doing a pretty amazing job with this game, he already hacked the game routine to fit a lot of letters in the dialogue boxes, he even translated the remaining text of the battles. If you want to check his progress here is his homepage: http://magno.romhackhispano.org/
-
^cool link, a bit off topic, but it seems the guy (SpectrumXD) who had a huge hand in hacking and translating Tsubasa 3 was working on Tsubasa J for the SNES. He vanished from the scene in 2008 I believe.
His site is gone. I found a patch elswhere of Captain Tsubasa V for the SNES both in English & Spanish but the Spanish version was more complete and more work was done and text contained much more detail.
-
Yeah, sometimes foreign translations can be a lot better than english translations, but most of the foreign translations are based on the english translations so it's kind of a limitation cause there are a lot of games that aren't translated yet (romancing saga 2 comes to mind).
It would be really cool if someone tries to translate this hack, it would be very worthwhile
-
For anyone who would like to try this game, here is Japanese guide of hack that covers nearly everything
http://www.wikihouse.com/roma312new/index.php?FrontPage
About hacking... There is tool called RS3ExTool2. You can change characters, music, monster, graphics and something with skills... But it seems it was designed for normal RS3, i can't preview hacked characters with it... (up to snowman, rest shows error). Too bad everything is in "????" so i have no idea how it works.

I'm Japanese.
Since the patch uploaded in this forum was a thing of one year or more ago.

I watched many movie.
It was pleasant.
Since I have already completed a difficult version, if Japanese may be used, I can advise on some --
Is there which Japanese understands?
I am sorry to have trouble in English.
-
Hi, since I don't understand japanese, I feel I need to ask: where in that wiki do I check for the lastest patch?
-
You can check the latest patch from "βろだ”
But The patch has separated at about 20 small patch in fact.
A patch of a base is "ああβ+改変"
Those names and texts are written in Japanese.
The patch considered to be necessity was chosen by me, and it collected into one, and uploaded the other day.
I'm sorry if it is excessive worries.
In addition It seems that there is no change not much with what was uploaded the other day although the final editions are 8/8 of things.
About this time, I pack a patch into one and upload it later again.
The list of patches is also made later.

Thank you very much!
Do you know if the save from the previous patch is compatible with this one?
-
compatible.
-
I was wondering if somebody knows how to unlock 開発室 (in Willminton)
EDIT: Nevermind
-
Man
This looks absolutely awesome
I am guessing there isn't much hope to play this in english from what i have read in the topic thus far...
-
Somebody wants to help me translating this into english??
I'm currently in the betatesting phase of Romancing Saga 3 spanoish translation and could be a good chance to complete the job by also translating this into english and spanish.
I could do all romhacking work as I did for Romancing Saga 3, since I supposed the text engine wouldn't be different...
If you want to take a look to my current work, look here: http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,14980.0.html (http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,14980.0.html)
-
Hell yes, that would be awesome, i would help if i could, but unfortunately i don't know anything about romhacking (or japanese) i really hope someone helps you.
I can help you beta testing your spanish translation, though...
-
Im interested, the main problem is that, im not a native English speaker. Therefore the quality of my translation would be awful, and besides i don't know Japanese so, i can only cheer for you Magno. After seing some youtube videos of this hack, i tracked down the poster to this site and register to check if any progress was being made, Hope you can do it.
-
anyone could reupload the last hack , it seems you need a premium account to download the last link. thanks guys

I would be very excited to help translate the Japanese to English on this project. I'm a native english speaker with fairly extensive Japanese experience. This is just the kind of project I've been looking for. What can I do to help?

一応私はある程度日本語出来ますので、伝えたい事があれば出来るだけ英語に直して見ます。私もこのプロジェクトに頑張りたいと思います。是非、いつでも連絡してください。よろしくお願いします。

Well, please wait for the original game to be fully translated and then I will have time enough to compare both codes to make the modifications needed to dump the script. Then, I could send you them to translate.
Can you send me an email so we can be in.touch directly?
-
Awesome. Sure I'll PM you. Thanks very much.

but wow friend...your spanish translation is incredible !!
i am replying to see if you or anyone else is interested in translating the items, spells, and descriptions a little ?
* the wiki does a really great job explaining how to advance the story *
-
hello again everyone, doing a quick bump of this topic ^_^"
i would like to thank "wanbetor" for uploading walkthroughs of how to complete some of the more trick events in this hack :
http://youtu.be/CvEUv_gAEko
also, i have sent you a message "mango" about working with you to translate this hack.
if anyone else would like to help out with the translation of this hack...just reply here or shoot me a email at grandflare@yahoo.com

It's magno, not mango.
I read you PM but I'm sorry to say that I'm now too busy with other project so I don't think I will get back to RS3 someday... It's been almost a year, too much time. :(

sorry to hear that...but thanks for the consideration ^_^"
* this hack is just so huge *
anyhow, i have been a little inactive myself...so would anyone else care to pick up this project ?
-
I've been playing this hack a whole bunch in Japanese recently, and I'd be willing to help. I don't have any real coding knowledge, but I'm a native English speaker and am fairly competent in both Spanish and Japanese.
-
@Lilfut
Yes, this hack is a lot of fun ^_^"
Hmm...back in 2013, I was unable to get a translation team together.
But that was then, so welcome aboard !
The first step is to see what kind of coding we would need to do to translate this game into English.
-
It is pretty irritating that this hack requires the 1.0 version of Romancing SaGa 3, and the English translation the 1.1 version.
The hack is great fun, but you constantly need to watch videos in order to make progress.
I also tried using a save file of the original game on the hack.
Also, there seems to be another thread to this:
