Title: Fonts
Post by: Forbiddencreed on December 08, 2011, 10:01:42 pm
I am looking for a new font for this game but none of the 8x8 fonts I have look good or seem appropriate... well my question is where is do you guys get your fonts from somewhere, if so, where? or do you make your own?

What you can do is find fonts on font websites look for 8x8 pixel fonts. THen you can type in paint or photoshop the alphabet and characters and import it in Tilelayer from a .bmp file.

haha!

You can also check out font sites with 8-bit or pixel fonts in their listing. Other than that, NFG's Arcade Font Tool (http://nfggames.com/games/fontmaker/) has several arcade game fonts and lets you see type custom text with them. And Miffies (http://mfs.jp.org/) carries a nice selection as well (check in Fonts, of course).

There's a ton of fonts at the Namco '70-'80's Arcade Font Museum (http://www22.atpages.jp/nbgifan/fonts.html).

Thanks guys, I was asking because i need a new font for this game and the there are not many fonts here (but I know someone must have a hidden stash of fonts they arent sharing), and none of them are really speaking to me... so to speak (I'm not going crazy just yet)

Thanks i'll look through it...

edit: OK 10 min of searching and i found a font that has a snowman in it... I wonder... under what conditions is it OK to use a snowman as part of the font and when will it be used? Also imm looking for a font that give more of a war time, rustic, and or mecha-like feeling... i am still going to look...

Just open mspaint and draw your own font, it can't be that hard right? I mean, everyone knows how the letters look like, right?

Indeed, I could... but that takes up quite a bit of time, and plus it would most likely not turn out as good as some of these fonts that I have seen.

Well. I could take a crack at it, if you're genuinely lost.

I designed the 8x8 VWF for Sylvanian Families (though admittedly, it was heavily based on FFIVA's).

how long does it take to develop such a font system?i know rom translations in general take a while but just the font system most likely varies as well...

If you're looking for 8x8 fonts, the NES is the best system to rip them from. Chances are they are not compressed and are stored in an easy format.
