That may be true. I imported the song into the retail rom, and tried to match up the instruments. However, I was unable to match up the synth, so I assumed it was a sample that didn't exist in retail. I did notice during my tests on it though that when that instrument was set to silent, there was not a noticeable difference in the way the battle theme sounded.

Anyway, this is a good place to plug that I built CTSE to be expandable, and left room for people to add even more music if they wanted to. You can take the code straight out of the pre-release rom and drop it into a CTSE expanded rom. Then follow the included spreadsheet to find out where you need to place the instrument tables, volume data, and song pointer.

Here's another idea: can you guys recreate the ending theme from Nuumamonja?

Although I'm not sure where it could be used, maybe for some of the "joke" endings

I don't have an interest in doing that, but if someone else did it, it could be used for the Nu battle in Zeal. I would go as far as to say that if someone else did the work, I'd include it in the next release.

3 Quick Updates:

1. The CTSE OST is now posted on Youtube, so you can listen to the music while you work or study:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPiuRVA85oZSSjSsNRUlqzSBVF0dNzEEi

2. Unfortunately, it looks like there's something that went wrong with the port to both of the Bugfix and Uncensoring patches by Chronosplit. All other addendum patches are operating well, but those two are going to need a little more work. I hope to put out corrected versions by the end of February.

3. There are 2 mistakes in ALL versions of CTSE.
   * During Crono's trial, when the game flashes back to your actions at the fair, the music will switch to the Millenial Fair theme, instead of the trial.
   * Poyozo Dolls do not play Marle and Lucca's new themes. I honestly didn't even know this was a thing until someone brought it up.
Both of these will be fixed in the next release.

I'm very confused about the "CTSE Bugfix Edition - All-In.ips", Is that for (Bugfix + SkyDark + Name Liberties + Aerdan Item Names), or (Bugfix + Name Liberties + Aerdan Item Names), or anything that isn't just the Bug Fixes alone?

For now, don't use the addendum patches for the Bugfix Editions. Both of them are running into some problems that WILL be easy to fix once I get the time to do it.

Hey there PowerPanda.

I am starting to hack Chrono Trigger and since I plan on using your music patch (but not pre-applied to any areas) along with the bugfix and censoring patch as a base before adding new areas and events and whatnot I wanted to know how to avoid conflicts.

Do you know how much of the expanded space I need to tell Temporal Flux to "block off" and not touch? Where should the new stuff start in the ROM so no conflicts happen?

PowerPanda

I do not know Temporal Flux well enough to be able to tell you that. Reld might have some insight. As stated before, please hold off on using the Bugfix Addendum patches for the time being. Both of them are bugged. I know why and how, but I will need a good solid chunk to be able to fix them, and I've been working on some paid projects recently that have left little time for romhacking. Fixing the addendum patches is first on my list when I'm able to pick up romhacking again, which should be within the next month.

Will this work with any translation?

The "Data Only" version can be added to any Chrono Trigger romhack. This patch simply places the songs in the 46 bank of an expanded rom, and changes all necessary pointers in the base rom. From there, you can use Reld's version of Temporal Flux to place the music in the rom. Because of the way Temporal Flux handles its event edits, every single patch where music is placed within events has to be done separately, from scratch.

PowerPanda

I'm adding this disclaimer again, since both issues came up during a recent review.

THERE ARE 2 KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE 3.0 VERSION
1. In ALL versions of the hack, flashbacks to the Millenial Fair during the trial will cause the fair music to play for the remainder of the trial. This is an unanticipated interaction between the event code of the trial and the music at the fair. This is 100% on me, as I didn't think to test that section of the game after making the changes.
2. This one is really important. THE BUGFIX AND UNCENSORING ADDENDUM PATCHES SHOULD NOT BE USED IN VERSION 3.0. I am going to have to start over from scratch with a clean rom in order to fix the issues with those 2 patches. The way that Chronosplit created these roms means that there are 2 copies of most of the cutscene code, and I edited the wrong copy. It's not a major issue, but it is a time-consuming one.

There are a couple of smaller things too, but nothing that you encounter during the main quest.

I am not ignoring these. My attention has been focused on payed contract work for the past 3 months. Once I finish up that work (and it is nearing completion), fixing this patch is #1 on my list.

In the scene where After the Battle plays, it's wonderful, but by the time the scene switches to the End of Time, I really think Crono's Theme/Chrono Trigger should be playing again.

I'm planning on making that change.

It took long enough, but I have fixed the issues with the bugfix and uncensoring patches. It should update on the website by tomorrow. Here are the full patch notes.

==3.2==
*Fixed major bug where the Millenial Fair music played during the Trial.
*Crono's Poyozo Doll now plays "A Time to Rest ~ After the Battle". This is the only place to hear it afer its defined cutscene.
*Lucca's Poyozo Doll now plays "Fanfare 1", her original theme.
*The music no longer resets after battles on Mt. Woe.
*Bug fixed in Chrono Trigger cutscene, allowing the song "Chrono Trigger" to play when the End of Time loads.
*Reverted Frog's Theme in Manoria Cathedral back to Fanfare 1 after feedback.
*Compatibility dropped for Enhansa Edition and Schala Edition. With all respect to the creators of those fantastic hacks, 7 versions of this patch was too many to maintain.

SeriousKano

Finally! Not gonna lie, this is the project I was looking forward the most on this site. I'll start playing as soon as I get home later today. Thanks for your effort.

Quote from: PowerPanda on November 20, 2022, 12:34:11 AMThis is a thread dedicated to the Chrono Trigger Soundtrack Expansion Project. CTSE is a romhack that adds in 12 new pieces of music to Chrono Trigger. The 12 pieces of music include:

3 Songs are on the game cartridge, but never used within the game
* Battle 2
* Singing Mountain
* Rat-A-Tat-Tat It's... Mitsuda

4 Songs were recreate from the PSX and DS re-releases
*  A Meeting with Destiny
*  One Sunny Day When We Met
*  Scattering Blossoms
*  A Time to Rest -After the Battle-

1 Song had a different arrangement on the CD Soundtrack
* Frog's Theme (With Intro)

3 Songs were on the Japanese Pre-release cartridge that was sent to gaming magazines
* Keeper's Dome
* Ascend to the Light
* Boss Battle 3

Finally, 1 Song was found in leftover junk data on the Japanese rom, and was restored
*  Alarming Crisis

Here is a showcase video:

The reason I'm creating a thread for a project that has already been released is that it is still in development. After releasing version 2.0, Reld, Gi, and I made some breakthroughs on the sound engine, allowing us to include more instruments, better reverb, and potentially even more music. A 3.0 version is officially in development.

As of tonight, I have developed ASM code that allows the random battle music to be changed out on a map-by-map basis. There are quite a few things that can be done with this, including the ability to let each time period have unique battle music. To facilitate that, I've extracted the alternate instrumentations of Battle 1 from the Pre-release rom. That leaves 3 versions: standard, drum-heavy, and synth-heavy. I've yet to see what the best method will be for implementing these into the game, but I'm excited about the possibilities.
Been playing through this and must say: Well done indeed! It's very cool that you've made addendum patches for other projects, including TheGreatBen's excellent CT+. On that note, have you given thoughts to making versions of this for Fauntleroy's excellent CT Schala Edition?

Schala Edition was originally included, but since I haven't played through it, I didn't know if I put my changes in the right place. I decided with version 3.2 to drop support. I also dropped support for Enhansa Edition. I was maintaining 7 separate versions of the patch, and I had to drop that down to 5 for sanity's sake.

Ah, fair enough. That does sound a bit daunting.

You might want to remove the CT+ addendum patch, because ThegreatBen has submitted a noncompliant request for CT+ to be removed from RHDN.

This means the CT+ addendum patch will no longer be able to be used anymore, as you won't be able to download it anymore.

ThegreatBen was one of the team members of the Chrono Triggers Soundtrack Expansion, so the addendum patch was made with full permission. I've reached out to him to see if he wants me to remove it, but won't do anything until he replies. The addendum patch has to be patched OVER CT+ 2.6, so it doesn't contain his changes.

EDIT: Ben has confirmed that the addendum patch can remain, since CT+ 2.6 will be available elsewhere.
