Yeah its awesome bc thegreatben made chrono trigger+ have msu1 compatibility by default so i just patched the main ct+ patch than added the optional auto run and red magus cape he provided as they made the most sense to me. Than renamed the rom to match the msu1 files in the folder and boom..as far as my playthrough it was great..i think one song cut out too early in the millenial fair once when i did a certain thing near the drinking contest and i reloaded the screen and it came back..also once or twice music didnt transition until after a bit of silence but i just left screen and came back..this is typical of porting an msu1 patch in my understanding..same thing happens in my ffv-pixel freemaster during the galuf xdeath fight scene..music cuts out twice and comes back on its own..im thinking due to gba translation and kinda not my favorite place to have it happen but considering the amount of changes these hacks make and the msu1 patches were coded for the song transitions of vanilla roms at first i think its a small price to pay for the overall package honestly. Chrono trigger has some really great mods..also the bugfix and uncensoring hack is msu1 compatible too and i was able to get it working with the opening scene from the ds game somehow.

Personally, I'm not interested in the MSU side of things. I very much enjoy the the in game OST found in most SNES games. The rest seem like they would be fun to try. Glad to know they're compatible!

Yeah..its pretty great..to be honest..my favorite version of ct.the ambition in this hack is rediculous..one reviewer mentioned the added areas to be a little janky or something.its a free fan project so we must temper our expectations a slight bit.but even still 1999 is awesome..ill say this about msu1..the super star wars trilogy with john williams audio msu1 is incredible..it gives the feel of the movie as you play it. Also the Terranigma msu1 we added for the pixel freemaster is next level. My playtester told me he cant wait to here each new song and hes a guy who has beaten Terranigma vanilla many times. Honestly I wouldnt even be trying to put together an all in one or improved further version of some of these games without it..I feel like with use of brz visual filter..and with uncompressed audio we are able to modernize...or freemaster these games for the first time basically..its exciting. But i do respect and understand there are those who appreciate the 16 bit sound for what it is. A really good example also is the Donkey Kong Trilogy MSU1 packs..I feel like if space constraints weren't such an issue we totally would have had the MSU1 audio when the games released..and they are much richer and more symhonic than vanilla.

Totally agree. Hardly any snes game needs MSU1, nor the experience is better than the original OSTs. It simply feels out of place for me in most cases. Chrono Trigger original sound fits the game in a way almost impossible to beat (IMHO).

Gi Nattak

I, too, am not the biggest fan of MSU1. To me it kind of defeats the purpose of the audio being SNES, obviously lol. I suppose I just prefer authentic SNES sound to higher quality tracks when playing a SNES game... however I do think it's really cool and that's good others find more enjoyment out of it. If it ever becomes a liability though in terms of holding up a project, then I would become more hostile towards it in such an instance! >:D

ThegreatBen

It really depends on the quality of the tracks, I can't play CT without the MSU-1 anymore. But I absolutely hated it for megaman X3 and a link to the past.

Agreed..the chrono trigger msu1 is amazing. I think Zelda 3 msu1 with cadence of hyrule ost is an amazing experience must play.

This is a good point. Personal preference plays big where MSU is concerned. Make no mistake, I'm glad it's there and an ever increasing option for many games. I'm also very grateful that it was specifically engineered so that it can be present in a game without interfering with the native game soundtracks. IMHO, MSU is a masterpiece of coding!

Noob question here. I played version 2.5 earlier this year. If I re-patch my rom with the 2.5.2 patch, and replace the existing .sfc, will my saves be compatible? More generally, do rom hack versions ever have save file incompatibility when you update? Just wondering if there are keywords that I would need to look out for in case that ever happens. Thanks!

ThegreatBen

Generally saves are compatible.  If you're worried just save on the 1000 ad overworld before you convert.

Grimlock

I also played a much earlier version. Excellent work BTW! Is this project pretty much wrapped up? I'd like to give it a go again from scratch with the latest revision.

It should be noted that CT+ got a mention and mini-review on a recent episode of SNES Drunk on YouTube;

I'm much more enthusiastic about this project than he seemed to be, but then he had to review a lot of patches.

EDIT:
Oops, sorry Andrew, didn't see your post. Browser window wasn't maximized.  :banghead:

I've been thinking more about you wanting to implement human Glenn, and the more I think about it, the more I don't think it's a good idea. Flames of Eternity got away with it because they were able to change up the techs to fit a human character. Simply doing a graphics swap would make Slurp and Slurp Cut comically out of place. What was your plan for dealing with those 2 techs?

ThegreatBen

They are already done. I changed the names to non slurping things, and human Glenn's animations don't use the slurping pose so it's all good to go.

I have been doing some Youtube videos for my Chrono Trigger Music Expansion hack to showcase the new music. At Ben's request, I used Chrono Trigger Plus to showcase the songs "A Meeting with Destiny" and "One Sunny Day When We Met". Those 2 songs occur in the 2nd half of this video. (EDIT: Posted the wrong link. I'll leave the old one up, but you are looking for the 2nd half of Part 2)

Thanks to Gi Nattak, Reld, Redeemer665, and Zeality for various work throughout the years in creating SPCs and MMLs of these songs.

Kallisto

So is this end of the CT+ project at this point or is there things you're still implementing? Just curious.  :)

Edit -

Nvm I saw the post on the last page, well then I can't wait for the final version! A playthrough of this and the DS version with all my extra dungeons unlocked in that one.

PowerPanda

Quick question, if anyone knows. On a "New Game +", does all of the new content get properly reset, or is it already considered completed?
