My first translation working alongside my buddy Kiiri, the aim of this game is to bring back the colors of Cefiro stolen by the color thief. The story starts after the events of the first story arc but doesn't follow the second but instead creates it's own story which is both good and bad. This translation will be released periodically when the translation reaches certain stages as set below.

1.The Blue Tower
2.The Green Fortress
3.The Red Castle
4.The Complete Translation

I am translating Magic Knight Rayearth 2nd: The Missing Colors with help from a friend, I am currently collecting the hex's for the Japanese kanji and have thus far got the first two screens in English. I had to shorten it down to fit in the English words though but it's all good, I'll update this when more is done but what do you guys think.

I'm afraid that this game doesn't have any kanji at all, so you may be wasting your time.

Those two screens don't look too bad, though.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BOB LIU
There has to be a better life.

I had to cut out parts of the text so it would fit but the final result still gets the message across so im happy. Im not so knowledgeable about kanji and the like but in short collecting the hex's of the Japanese text/characters. Here's an example.

0E = か
0F = き
10 = く

Oh ok.  First part is SNES.  Now second part is gameboy.  Nice.

Got alot more screens done, making good progress. Had to shorten down some words due to the little space I had to insert the text, couldn't extend it as that caused the rom not to load. Anyway enjoy.

What you're referring to about collecting and working your way through is 'kana' and not 'kanji.' That's probably what the misunderstanding was about.

Now.. onto the hack..

I'm going to be honest. I know this is a great deal of effort and that you've just started, but until you can work out how to change to pointers to deal with longer text strings, this isn't a 'translation' and more of a rewriting. I know there are various schools of thought with "better something than nothing," but things like "CFIRO," "HIKAR," and 「しんじられない・・・"セフィーロ"じゃないみたい」 (I can't believe it... this doesn't seem like 'Cefiro.') compressed down to "I DONT BELIEVE IT" is just a little bit too much.

Before wasting too much time with hacked/brutalized translations, I'd recommend trying to work out how you can fit in more text first.

Just my two cents.

Bob Liu

Yea I know that may seem a bit awkward but I tried adding a new space to fit in the rest of the letters but then the rom wouldn't load. I'll try again though but Im not sure if it will work, is it possible to do that with any game like this though.

Edit
Yea I inserted a new hex when your not meant to do that.... oops. Im looking at this pointer stuff but im getting confused on how to add another space, it says add something to the offset but how would I do that.

I think your translation must have an error somewhere.
First you're trying to rescue Emeraude and then later you're trying to kill her? :P

It's been forever since I've watched MKR, but IIRC that actually happens in the series.

Spoiler
After the Knights kill Zagato, Emeraude goes crazy and the Knights have to fight her, or something like that.

Soon the super karate monkey death car would park in my space. But Jimmy has fancy plans... and pants to match. The monkey clown horrible karate round and yummy like cute small baby chick would beat the donkey.

Well this is how it goes as translated from Japanese but I had to change things to fit it in and make sense as a story's narrative.

Hikaru Umi and Fuu heard a voice call them to CEFIRO.

Three persons took a trip in order to rescue Princess Emeraude kidnapped by zagato as a "magic Knight .

on the way -- three persons who wavered in "the world of the picture" which Theguard drew

However, it pulled together, Theguard of the "phantom" was pushed down and it escaped.

And the trip still continued.

Of course this is what my translator gave me back but I just rewrite the dialogue to make sense, I know it may end abrupt but I don't know how to do these pointers stuff to add more text in so this will have to do.

Would you consider using "squishy tiles"? In would definitely save you same tile spaces. For example, words with letter-I in CEFIRO, you could make FI or IR fir in one tile. Same with HIKARU, fit HI or IK in 1 tile.

Also the [NAME] could use a little distinction to the speaker of the message box. You could use the brackets again or end the NAME: with a colon.

I wouldn't want that, would look kinda messy. Can someone walk me through this pointer business because im lost, it says to add numbers to the offset but how would I go about doing that.

A release is here after almost a month of translating, this release features the first segment of the game out of three available in English. The plot of the game is to recapture the three colors that have been stolen, you fight your way through monsters in The Blue, Tower, Green Fortress and the Red Castle. I don't want people to wait until this is totally done as I know some are eager to play so im gonna release the translation in 4 segments. You may encounter some Japanese while playing but please remember that this is in progress and will your feedback it will be improved, for those of you reading thanks for your interest and have fun.

Here is an in progress video of the English translation, have fun.

I just watched this & I like to point out some corrections & share some suggestions. (You might have fixed it already tho)
*you can use commas even without spaces
*@9:34: "vanis-ed" should be "vanis-hed"
*you could use "flee" for "escape"
*"level up" for "level gained"
*"Ceres" for "Selece" (imo "Ceres" looks better)
*If possible, use squishy-tile letters with apostrophe like 's 't 'm 'r etc.
*If possible, insert some punctuation marks esp. periods & apostrophes
*you mixed up "your" for "you're" or vice versa
*@11:50: "ARU you okay?"
*use squishy tiles on "ミス"
*@11:48: "The land used to be beautiful but now it is ruined!"
*@15:11: "Nharby is a tower" ?
*@16:32: "co you ever write in" ?
*@16:55: "tn"
*@17:07: "becole"
*@17:23: "Fiary" ? @17:30: "luch"
*@17:45: "Fbiry"
*There's one house that has only Japanese.

btw, can't wait to play this!

Bob Liu

Yea thanks for that but if you read the video description you would know that I fixed all those mistakes after uploading the video which you did mention and you probably just wanted to be sure that I did so again thanks for your interest. I am going to use squishy tiles in the end for the names I can't fully fit in, I don't want to mess up the Japanese graphic tiles at the moment as I would have to replace them for the full hikaru and selece, plus some others.

Im using Selece since that's which is used in the english version of Rayearth, same goes for some other stuff but I had to change some due to spaces such as cefiro and cephiro. Anyhow just check out my blog for the download link as that has the first third of the story complete, the changes I make after that are save game compatible so when I release the green fortress you can pick up and play again. Thanks for your interest, it's much appreciated.

Thanks for this, I will wait a bit to play this in on the original GB once the translation is finish.
Keep up the good work.

Glad to see people are interested in this as that's what I really want, thanks. I will translate the other Rayearth games after this one as I want them all to be playable in English because we have missed out on most of them the past 20 years.
