Hello all! This is a topic to introduce a new project I'm working on as lead translator. This game is THE reason i learned Japanese, so it's pretty exciting to be bringing it to an English audience. I recently put up an ad and ended up getting a response from Esperknight(huge thanks go to Pennyworth for suggesting him to help out!), and so far it's been progressing pretty well thanks to his expertise! Most text is already dumped and a good portion translated, and Esperknight has a working inserter for text. He's still working towards implementing a VWF, but for now I'll leave you with this preview.

Yes, this will look different later :)

I'm looking forward to hopefully also getting some help in restoring some unused stuff in the game, or at least making it functional. Such as a sprite that still remains in the game data that was originally planned as a second female player. But for now the translation is the priority since no one likes finding messing around to find unused stuff when you haven't even played the original yet.

I'm sure there will be more pictures to show eventually, I mostly just wanted to start a topic so this project is known and to let people know that this game is finally being translated to English. Until next time!

I read a lot about this game, glad someone as competent as you is finally picking it up

OMG How could I miss this topic!  :o

I am so excited about this translation, I tried the Japanese version some time ago and it looked amazing... but then the language barrier kicked in...
Everything I read about this game says it's just pure fun.

Thank you very much for picking up that project, and good luck!

Validus

looks fantastic. Game is a classic in japan from what I hear.

best of luck mate~!

Swarm

Wow! This is an amazing game for sure and it's exciting to see someone having another crack at translating it. Good luck.

knighTeen87

I will play thru it whenever you are finished. Keep it up

Small update, I sent the script for proofreading, though there's a couple sections not quite complete. I'm just not having much time recently to finish it up and thought now is as good a time as any to get it looked at, plus they can hopefully figure out the little sections that I could never get to finishing  Some of it's unused text which I never got to since I don't know if there's any way of enabling it and their scenes in game yet.

Anyway, progress is being made :)

Thanks for the update SteveMartin! Really looking forward to it. (hopefully it will work on PSP with the patch too!)

i don't see why it wouldn't, seeing as every patched  psx game I've played on my psp has worked flawlessly, keep in mind if a game does not work before adding this patch it won't work after (ie. pops incompatibility)

Carnivol

Keepin' my eyes on this one. Really cool to see this game getting a translation.

Depending on the changes made to implement the translated assets and other adjustments done in the process, compatibility with original hardware and/or specific emulators might break. It's not really uncommon or unheard of. (And stuff that previously didn't work could also mysteriously start working again too, depending on what it was that made it not work in the first place)

Gemini

Like Carnivol said, there are some cases in which patches do improve the compatibility and fix obscure hardware issues. Some of my projects do follow this kind of lead, changing whatever's broken as hell or simply uses absurd optimization strategies (ex: text rendering in Persona 2 IS, it was so "hardware optimized" it acted freaking slow on both PS2 and PSP). I've been using this kind of approach because my main gaming system for PlayStation titles is a PSP and having those games not to work as intended would made me a sad panda. ;D

Don't worry, I'll be making sure it works on the psp (if it already works that is, haven't tested yet) as the psp is my main way of playing psx games too.  Can't guarantee it working on the psx itself though as my ps2 isn't setup to play backups.  So if anyone wants to volunteer to play it on there psx I'd appreciate it.

burn_654

I could test it on my soft-mod ps2, I can load psx backups

This looks like an interesting project, looking forward to what comes of it!

Auryn

And I will probably play it in my modded ps1

RadicalR

I have a modded PSX that I can pull out of storage for this. Sign me up please.  :woot!:

Great, thanks! And yeah it does work already, I tested it on my PSP the first time I tried this awesome game.

esperknight

Awesome, thanks yuka for letting us know.  I'll make suren to not break it thrn ;)

To everyone, when the time comes ill hit y'all up for testing.  Can't guarantee everyone will get to test but will see what I can do.

And now I just need to stop playing Moon and get to that VWF...  ;)

SteveMartin

Wasn't aware you were really playing it through with my translation at the moment  I considered some of the text to just be first draft that could be better, so hope some of it isn't ruined for you :p

I'm surprised you can play it through with the text all spaced out like that haha.

I see how it is... don't read your emails from me  :'(

Even as a first draft it reads pretty good I think.  And the spaced out text doesn't look too bad and it all reads the same in the end :D

Carnivol

I'd gladly later on join in on a bit of testing. If possible and desirable, that is. Can't guarantee any full playthroughs on my end, but I'll at least try pushing your hacks/modifications a bit (see if I can break them or find ways to make them ... troublesome ) and also make a bit of feedback on the general impression/quality of things (from my perspective) :)
