Hacking NBA Jam TE: A Beginner's Guide

Game Specific

Description:

Eskayelle, while developing his NBA Jam TE - Double Z Mod romhack, scoured websites, forums, message boards, Google Docs, PMs, etc. to amass every tidbit he could about NBA Jam: Tournament Edition for the SNES. With this, he has released everything he’s learned to date to the masses, so that more folks can enjoy the game, create more hacks, and reveal more discoveries.

Armed with this document, you can modify…

  • Portraits
  • Stats
  • Logos
  • Uniform colors
  • Court colors
  • Head graphics
  • Court-side banners
  • Secret character codes
  • Campaign mode team order
  • Campaign mode secret players
  • Certain sound clips!
  • And more…

With enough horsepower, a team of hackers (or one lone ranger) could create annual roster updates for the game!

If you find the document helpful, and it leads you to coming up with a great NBA Jam hack, please be sure to credit some of the great folks who’ve provided so much of the information within this document. And… be sure to share that hack!

Please also feel free to PM eskayelle with regard to any errors you may find in the document, so that he may aggregate them, correct in bulk, and re-upload the document from time to time.

Thanks for reading!

5/26/2020 UPDATE: The .zip file provided here is a supplement to the Hacking NBA Jam TE: A Beginner’s Guide and specifically contains certain files required to complete Mattrizzle’s tutorial regarding making player portraits. Those files were originally developed by Mattrizzle and are as follows:

  • nbajam.adf
  • 1BPP_A.PAL
  • 1BPP_B.PAL

These files are provided here in case their original location (as provided within the tutorial) is no longer operational or available.

All credit to Mattrizzle for that original portrait tutorial and these supplemental docs.
