Zelda Kong IX-XII

24 June 2021 6:23PM EST - Update by Zero Meaning

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

Zero Meaning once again marries Zelda and Donkey Kong for their anniversaries with the next four instalments in the Zelda Kong series. This time, the spotlight is entirely on Link’s Awakening. Almost all Donkey Kong graphics have been swapped out for Zelda assets. Return to Koholint Island in a way you never expected!

Features four separate hacks, each with unique enemies, bosses, items, characters, and palettes.

  • Save the island from Shadow Nightmare’s horde of underworld minions as Link.
  • Deliver Martha’s lost necklace as Marin, but watch out for the lazy Walrus!
  • Sweep everyone in your way off their feet with Grandma Ulrira (YAHOO!)!
  • Encounter an all-star cast of guest characters from the Mario and Kirby series as Tarin.

These hacks exist for both:

Zelda Kong V-VIII

07 June 2021 8:24AM EST - Update by Zero Meaning

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

Zero Meaning continues celebrating the anniversaries of Donkey Kong (40) and The Legend of Zelda (35) with Zelda Kong V-VIII. This second four-part series of hacks morphs the ape’s arcade classic into even more Hyrulean adventures mostly focussing on Zelda 2.

Play as an Armos Statue (vs Aquamentus), Zelda 2’s Link (vs Thunderbird), the fabled Triforce Keeper (vs Dark Link), and an innocent village Child (vs a Giant Bubble). All enemies, graphics, and palettes are unique to each hack. Choose your character, save your friend, and stop the forces of evil!

Zelda Kong I-IV

20 May 2021 3:10PM EST - Update by Zero Meaning

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

To celebrate Donkey Kong’s 40th and The Legend Of Zelda’s 35th anniversary, Zero Meaning has created Zelda Kong I-IV. As the name suggests, this is actually a series of hacks that alters Donkey Kong to look like the first Zelda title. At first, this began as one hack featuring Link saving the princess, with a second version flip-flopping the trope to have Zelda rescuing Link. Ideas ran rampant, and what was a small side project became something much more.

Playable characters are Link, Zelda, Moblin, and Zol. DK has been replaced with Ganon (and the injured palette swap), a giant 8-bit Link, and Digdogger. Expect to see plenty of enemies from your travels in Hyrule, including NPCs like the Old Man in Moblin mode!

If you enjoyed these hacks, there’s much more to come. Expect a set of sequels soon!

The Legend Of Zelda (Chunky Edition)

29 April 2021 12:36PM EST - Update by Zero Meaning

ROM Hacks News - RHDN Project Page

Ever felt like your adventuring days were over due to too much pesky detail?

Ever dreamed of a cuter world where pixels are bigger?

Ever wished Zelda could be… chunkier?

The Legend Of Zelda: Chunky Edition is the hack for you!

Boasting almost 100% less graphical fidelity, TLOZ: Chunky Edition modifies all visual aspects of the game, doubling up most if not all pixels to create a blockier, thicker aesthetic.

This hack should appeal to:

• Gamers wanting to experience the most legendary adventure of all time in a new way.

• People who have issues with small pixels on CRTs or other devices.

• Lovers of cute art styles.

• Those who just need less detail in their life.

Also changes the Blue Ring palette to be a bluer blue.

Lovingly crafted by Zero Meaning.
