This is a full featured Integrated Development Environment for the NES that has been worked on for five years. It allows one to do almost everything needed to create or edit a rom/game from scratch. It has its own built in debugger and emulator too. As the author says, “Yes, you can ROM hack with NESICIDE”. FEDA Finally Reaches Completion!

Magic Destiny and Stealth Translations have done it again! This time they bring you a complete version of FEDA: The Emblem of Justice. The script has been totally reworked, and numerous bugs have been stomped out!
Months and months were spent editing the script to get the proper tone and feel down right. WildBill, having spent time in service, delved back into his past to bring a very realistic dialog to the game. Bongo’ continued to deliver killer tools to complete this project and worked long hard hours to get the coding put in place.
If you enjoyed (or even hated) playing the original Stealth Translations release, then you will be totally blown away by how much better the dialog and story are. The original release contained many inconsistencies and vague scenarios that have tweaked for better comprehension.
We hope you enjoy the game! Be sure to give a big hand to the man himself, Bongo’, for pushing us hard to get this gem of a game out to the public.
Chrono Compendium / Crimson Echoes receives a C&D letter from Square-Enix

Chrono Trigger romhack project “Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes” and “all other Square-Enix-related ROM hacks” has apparently received a Cease & Desist, as suggested by both the latest newspost found on the Chrono Compendium and at the project’s official website.
The following is what was recently posted on the frontpage of the Chrono Compendium:
On May 8, we received a wide-reaching cease and desist letter from Square Enix, Inc. As with Chrono Trigger: Resurrection and Chrono Trigger Remake Project’s letters, we have uploaded the letter for viewing here as a matter of public interest.
We have decided to comply with Square Enix’s demands. Most of the Chrono Compendium webpages and forums will be unaffected by these changes. However, our compliance has the practical effect of ending the Compendium’s support for ROM modification projects of any kind, with regard to copyrighted Square Enix works such as Chrono Trigger, Radical Dreamers, and Chrono Cross. We have already destroyed all known copies of Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes and other modifications and projects. We have also shut down and made inaccessible any discussion boards used for the development of ROM-hacking fan projects on this website, including:
- Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes
- Chrono Trigger: Prophet’s Guile
- Retranslation of Chrono Trigger
- Chrono Trigger Re-amped
- Chrono Trigger Rebirth
- Chrono Trigger Azala Style
The official Crimson Echoes website website was updated and now only shows the following:
Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes was a fan project modification of the Chrono Trigger ROM begun in late 2004. Development continue thanks to a dedicated group of fans through 2009. By May 2009, the game featured ~35 hours of game play, 10 multiple endings, and 23 chapters, much like the original Chrono Trigger; it was around 98% complete. The plot featured the original cast as they struggled against a new villain risen from the legacy of Zeal.
The team planned to release Crimson Echoes on May 31, 2009 as the first feature-length fan Chrono series game, and an unprecedentedly exhaustive work in the ROM modification community. On May 8, 2009, Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes received a cease & desist letter,along with all other game modification activity (even research) at the Chrono Compendium. In compliance with the letter, the development team ceased development on the game, and existing modifications (including Prophet’s Guile) were taken down.
We thank those fans who followed the game’s development, and also those who poured countless hours into the vision of a fun, new Chrono game, made by fans for fans without copyright claim or intent to make profit.

Super Mario 64: The Missing Stars Released!

This is the first ever “complete” hack of Mario 64, featuring brand new levels and missions. The game has been changed in many aspects, offering a fresh gameplay experience.
- 38 stars in about 10 levels
- A Day/night cycle replacing (most) act selectors
- Choose to play as Mario or Luigi
- Modified enemies, objects and bosses (too many to list!)
- Custom music, including one original song (the town “night” music)
- A new final boss fight which involves a new Mario powerup
There are also many ‘behind the scene’ modifications that make make this hack work: extended memory support, a new collision pointer system (lookup tables instead of hardcoded pointers), modified script commands and a bunch of other hacks.
Some hacks used in this game were written straight in C using a GCC compiler targeting MIPS and a set of header files/linker scripts to allow interaction with existing game code and functions. Source code for most modifications will also be released soon.
Breath of Fire 2 Retranslation Patch Released!

After two-and-a-half years in the making, more if you count the original German version’s development time, the Breath of Fire 2 Retranslation Patch (v1.0) is finally done.
The English patch includes numerous bugfixes and improvements, restoring features and interface elements missing from the German version: you can buy stacks of items again, and the handy AP cost window in the battle menu has been restored. Also, the “disappearing cursor” has been rectified; special thanks to the beta testers for getting on my case about that.
The patch download includes translator’s notes (warning: heavy spoilers!) and some bonus goodies: a pair of alternate intro patches, one for those who’d like to see how the intro looks with a different song, and another for those who’d like the original title screen music back.
Phantasy Star IV Bug Fix Released by Sixfortyfive

All versions of the original retail release of Phantasy Star IV had one particularly nasty bug: when you leveled your party to 99 (the maximum), character stats would be applied incorrectly. Many stats were reduced or swapped between characters, and several attack skills could be wiped from your characters’ memory. Furthermore, the Japanese version had another bug: when Chaz (Rudy) learns Megid, it replaces Nazan. This romhack is a simple patch that fixes both of these bugs.
Seth’s stats and skillset still suffer from the level 99 bug. However, considering the minor role in which he plays in the game, this should not be of much concern. Leveling Seth to 99 does not affect any other characters.

Romhacking.net Open for Business Again

A few of you may have noticed Romhacking.net was down for a little bit. I hope your withdrawal wasn’t too bad. :P Well, we’re back now. :) Since I can only type with one hand, I’ll just copy and paste to fill in anybody who hasn’t been in the know.
From a few days ago:
Romhacking.net is currently down to the public and in the rebuilding process. The server we were on was a victim of complete data loss as a result of a widespread attack and vulnerability from HyperVM, a host node VPS (Virtual Private Server) control software. Much real life drama including a suicide relating to this issue has gone on. You can read an overview at the following:
Though this event was technically beyond my control, I apologize for any lapse in administrative judgment regarding backups and choice of host that have led to this partial (up to two months) data loss. I take preservation of our community’s data seriously and take pride in being a trustworthy Administrator. I hope this incident does not tarnish Romhacking.net’s image, your trust in me, or our community’s strength. Romhacking.net will return shortly to resume being a central hub for our community and archiving and preserving it’s accomplishments. There is nothing that can wipe out RHDN, only provide us with a temporary setback. Current status:
- We have restored the site from backup as of April 5th, 2009 and recovered most added information from Google cache since then, and will work to restore it as well.
- We have moved to a new VPS server being managed by custom VPS control software and do not expect the same occurrence to ever happen again.
- Romhacking.net is expected to return to partial service within 24 hours. Some features such as forum registration may remain down for a few more days while other services such as e-mail are restored.
Additional steps are being taken to further protect our history and continue to keep it safe at ROMhacking.net for years to come.
