Animetic Story Game 1: Cardcaptor Sakura — English Translation Patch Released!

21 March 2017 9:59PM EST - Update by PsionBolt

Translations News

Released by Arika in 1999 for the PlayStation, Animetic Story Game 1: Cardcaptor Sakura retells the first season of the popular anime in adventure game form. With beautiful 2D graphics, full voice acting, and animated cutscenes straight from the TV show, this game recreates the world of Cardcaptor Sakura more accurately than any other CCS game before or since (and there have been quite a few other attempts)!

The light-adventure gameplay is punctuated by an assortment of minigames that step up the action when it’s time to capture the cards. Dodge lightning bolts from the Thunder card, dance to the rhythm with the Flower card, play Simon to sense the location of the Move card, and more. All of these challenges are available both during the story mode and in an endless score attack mode. And if action isn’t your thing, you can always sit down for a round of fortune telling! Everything you do will earn you Sakura Coins, which can be used to purchase a multitude of concept art, voice samples, and so on, including many clips you won’t find in the main story. You can even transfer voices to the PocketStation, if you’re one of the twelve people who own one!

Like the original Cardcaptor Sakura, this game targets an audience of young and old alike, and two players can play together using Family Mode. If you’ve never watched, read, or otherwise engaged with the story of Cardcaptor Sakura before, now’s your chance to grab a spouse, child, or friend and have a laid-back bonding experience. Or, if you remember seeing a show called Cardcaptors on TV around the turn of the millennium, take this as your chance to overwrite that painful memory with the story as it was meant to be told!

This patch was made possible by the hard work of NoOneee, whose hacking extended far past the main script, including adding subtitles to the animated cutscenes, editing all the image text within the game, and even adding dialogue boxes for NPCs who were originally voice-only. Translation and editing were handled by PsionBolt.
