In 1994, Capcom released Mega Man: The Wily Wars, a remake of Mega Man 1,2 and 3 for the Sega Genesis, which let players experience the classic NES titles in 16-bit glory. However, the later NES titles, 4-6, were left on their home system and never got a conversion. There was a gap that never got filled.
Until now. Mega Man: The Sequel Wars continues where Wily Wars left off and aims to recreate Mega Man 4, 5 and 6. It is a homebrew project built from the ground up while still running on the Sega Genesis. Episode Red is the first release of the project and contains the full remake of Mega Man 4. Experience this underappreciated classic with new stylish 16-bit flair. The full power of the Mega Drive is used to deliver detailed graphics, elaborate parallax backgrounds, two quality soundtracks and a slew of gameplay improvements and additions. Great care has been put into recreating the original game faithfully while adding new features.
Even if you’re a veteran that knows the original like the back of their hand, there is new content to enjoy. Use new weapons or play as completely different characters. And remember… Only for the Mega Drive!

Not just the sky, Chicken Little, but all sorts of baddies are coming out of the woodwork to crush your base to oblivion. Big rocks, lil rocks, even homing pulsar missiles and apocalyptic spinner missiles sourced either from alien technology or some nasty shadow government.

It’s button pattern pandemonium in Memory Mania Challenge! Pay attention to the button pattern and try your best to repeat it. It starts off easy, but things can quickly get out of hand. Beat the top score and become the new champion!
Originally released in the early days of the COVID pandemic, Memory Mania Challenge is a homebrew Game Boy Color game inspired by the classic electronic pattern game Simon. It includes three difficulty levels: Easy Mode uses only the D-pad, and each new round builds on the existing pattern; Normal Mode is the same but introduces the A and B buttons; and Hard Mode re-randomizes the pattern each round.
Each difficulty mode has its own battery-saved high score. Enter your initials and challenge your friends!

This is a re-written and greatly expanded fork (by me) of the original, barebones Game Boy version by stacksmashing.
It adds:
- A full dictionary (versus the bloom filter)
- Thousands more solution words (~13K words for the English dictionary)
- Multiple dictionary languages / translated interface
- Quality of life gameplay features (auto-fill, hard-mode, etc)
- A nice popup UI
- Saved settings and gameplay stats
- Sound FX
- Game Boy Color support
For better, and sometimes for worse during dev, it still fits in a 32K ROM. :)
It’s available as:
- A Game Boy ROM or a Analogue Pocket .pocket file here on RHDN
- Playable online in a web emulator at: https://bbbbbr.itch.io/gb-wordyl
- Full Source code (GPL 3): https://github.com/bbbbbr/gb-wordle
And now released as a specialty 31K+1k save cartridge at Ferrante Crafts:

Homebrew News
In an effort to learn a bit more assembly and enhance his romhacking toolkit, eskayelle / Double Z has released a trilogy of Pong variations, each based upon the clones from the 1970s that utilized the AY-3-8500 chip (e.g., Magnavox Odyssey, Wonder Wizard, Gulliver Triple Challenge…).
As an added spin on the classic property, the games place the player in the universe of a certain team of radical reptiles. Easy to understand in any language, these games are fun for the whole family!
Whether you want to introduce younger children to some of the classic gameplay of yesteryear, or you want to relive some nostalgia, grab a couple NES controllers and these ROMs and … go ninja, go ninja, go!
