Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes Demo 2 Released

20 May 2006 9:36AM EST - Update by ZeaLitY

ROM Hacks News

The Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes project is releasing its second demo! Three chapters of the game are now playable (versus the simple prologue of the last game), featuring new areas, scenes, events, characters and story as the rich world of Crimson Echoes unfolds. Nearly every era is accessible, and a host of other surprises await. I’m really reluctant to reveal much more, as you must experience it for yourself! At a minimum, the demo will last 30-40 minutes at maximum, if you talk to all the NPCs and immerse yourself in the world of the game, it can last up to 3 hours or more. This is truly a new Chrono Trigger adventure if you’d like to follow the team on another mission through time, jack in and download the patch! The instructions for playing are in the Readme. The demo is the relevant link on this news post. Also, please give us feedback here.

Staff note:Pursuant to ROMHacking dot net’s policy of only including completed hacks in our database, we will not be hosting this hack here at this current time. This news was just too good to pass up, so up on the front page it goes.

And here’s the patch.

Lufia Decensored

30 April 2006 12:44PM EST - Update by D

ROM Hacks News

Last month it was pointed out to me that posters on RPGONE’s forums thought the group should retranslate Lufia & the Fortress of Doom, also known as Estpolis Biography, based on the Japanese to English censorship changes I released on GameFAQs.

I’ve always considered the translation very good aside from some forced NOA censorship and a few creative names–which were often better than the Japanese originals. However, since some people think it’s so bad, I threw together a patch to apply my FAQs changes to the game.

This patch changes all the following:

  • Character Names: Dios, Erin and Arty are back to normal.
  • Monster Names: Gardios and too many others to count.
  • Censorship: Bars now sell booze instead of cider. Church is run by a priest instead of a grey-haired shemale. Bunny girls kiss the hero on the second floor of Forfeit Isle. The dress is once again a One-Piece swimsuit. All references to death restored in place of gloom. Shop sells Bunny Ears and Bunny Suits.
  • Item Names: Brone to Bronze. Tan to Leather. Carbo to Holy. Might to Ancient. Stuffed Monkey. Rum, Vodka, Gin, Moonshine and Whiskey sold in stores. Lots more.
  • Magic Names: All magic names restored to their original, unintelligible syllables. Have fun figuring out what does what. It’s Phantasy Star IV again!
  • Dialogue: Corrected the Gades in Sheran reference when Lufia first sees Gades so it is no longer Tarzan-speak.

I did not change Forfeit Island to Pawning Place or Sinistrals into \”Four Mad Gods\” because the English version names sound a million times better. I also did not change Platina and Carbis back to Shaia Labs 1&3 because those would have been too big a hassle.

The patch has been moderately playtested. Please report any bugs that pop up and I’ll fix them. There is a slight chance of some spells making the game lock, but I think I fixed all of these.

Staff Note: As always, you can find the patched mirrored here. The archive includes a standard IPS patch as well as a NINJA format patch for those of you who do not like dealing with the problems caused by patching a headerless or interleaved rom.

Super Mario World: Return to Dinosaur Land

15 April 2006 8:08PM EST - Update by RAGB

ROM Hacks News

This is a completely edited version of Super Mario World. Don’t expect any new graphics here, this hack is all about the level design. Some of the worlds have themes not present in the original, such as a water world and an ice world. There are over 40 levels, and two secret bonus areas. Definitely something for anyone looking for a new Mario challenge! Enjoy!

Megaman in the Mushroom Kingdom

16 March 2006 8:49PM EST - Update by AlexAR

ROM Hacks News

Dr. Wily finally concedes that Mega Man may be too much for his evil robotic creations. Determined to get the best of the blue bomber, Dr. Wily contacts another famous villian, Bowser! Having combined their forces, Dr Wily and Bowser unleash their new destructive creations upon the Mushroom Kingdom. After hearing news of Wily’s new plan, Mega Man decides to travel to the Mushroom Kingdom himself to stop Wily again. Mega Man now finds himself in a strange new world filled with obstacles and locales very foreign to him. Fearless, Mega Man presses on to Super Mario’s old stomping grounds to defeat these new foes.

Mega Man in the MK is set in various classic Mario games. Including Super Mario Bros1, 2, 3 and World. Megaman faces off against Wily’s Bosses as well as Bowser’s minions. This being Super Mario’s World, he gladly helps out Mega Man by increasing his jumping power as well as outfitting the Blue Bomber with some of his old garbs.

Features:

  • The 6 main starting levels have had extensive level design and graphics modifications.
  • Every single enemy graphic had been changed in to a Mario themed bad guy.
  • Megaman can jump higher.
  • Every boss has been made easier, their shots do less damage, Megaman’s do more.
  • The first 2 of 4 Wily stages have had extensive graphic modifications but only minor level design tweaks (Game engine Constraints)
  • The last 2 of 4 Wily stages only undertook minor tweaks to make them less utterly frustrating. (Made easier)
  • Minor title screen edit, minor text edits here and there.
  • Symbols representing their respective powers have been put in place of letters in the pause/power menu. ( A bomb symbol instead of a “B”, Fire ball instead of” F”)
