TOC Changer v1.2 released!

Hi all! I finally released the pre-final version of my tool, TOC Changer. This tool was made to help PSX/PS2 hackers editing TOC data information, for example changing the file size and/or file LBA. So you can expand and move files inside your PSX/PS2 iso file. If some of you work on PSX/PS2 games, you should know how important file expansion is. You can find my tool in the Utilities section. I suggest you to read the ReadMe for more information about it or the TOC Changing guide wrote by Sephiroth 1311 (italian only). You can find it on www.romhacking.it

Editroid - A New Metroid Editor

With all due respect to the impressive and long-time defacto standard, Metedit, a new Metroid (NES) editor is well under development and will probably be released some time in September.
This new editor, titled “Editroid”, supports editing screens, as well as editing the structures that screens are made out of, and the combos that structures are made out of. Editroid supports palette editing as well (including secondary palettes for the levels that have them). The text at the title screen can be edited for a custom by-line. There is also a feature to preview the “physics” of a screen. Editroid also supports some features to simplify creating a world, including the option to append map data to the ROM file, view a map of the world, a section of the world, or a specific level, and even create back-ups.
For die-hard hackers, there is a pointer conversion utility and the “Pointer Explorer,” which allows you to find the offsets of game data. And for DotNet developers Editroid doubles as a DotNet library that can be used to dissect the ROM.
Unfortunately, Editroid does not support item editing and has some compatability issues with Metedit that can be worked around.

Xenogears translation tools released!

Ciao a tutti, people at Romhacking.net! We’ve just relesed the tools we used to translate Xenogears. With them, you’ll be able to retranslate the game from Japanese into a new English translation, or, of course, from English to your native language. :) You can find them in the “Utilities” section here at Romhacking.net, or at our website, in our Xenogears translation page. Just make sure to read the (long :P ) user’s guide included in the package.
We hope to see many translation projects in the future: Xenogears really deserves to be enjoyed by as many people as possible. ;)

I have released a nearly finished translation patch for the NES platformer “The Genius Bakabon”, translated by odino and hacking done by me. But I could use help from an NES genius locating what I suspect is a PPU issue with the cutscenes (junking palette data onto a few tiles of the nametable). This minor glitch is the only thing seperating this from being labeled a Complete patch.
SMD BIN WIN 2.0b rc2 Released

VectorMan has released an update to his Genesis ROM converter, SMD BIN WIN. This may be one of the last updates this software will have.
- This is still a beta (just the second beta of 2.0)
- Conversion canceling (now users can cancel while the conversion process is taking place)
- File limit problems fixed (now users can convert up to 1,000 Files at a time)
- File size limit fixed (now files 4 megs and over can be converted)
- Cool new look

Captain Tsubasa Vol. II - Super Striker

hayabusakun has released a translation patch for the ROM Captain Tsubasa Vol. II - Super Striker (J). He granted me the permission to make an ips patch from his work. The original release was distributed in ROM format.
About the game:
This game is based on the popular anime series. Some events in it don’t occur in the series, and some of the shots were created just for the game. The game has a long plot, lots of animations, great effects for the special shots, and an awesome soundtrack. If you liked the first game for the NES you’ll surely love this one.
Tales of Phantasia PSX, moving right along

In the last several weeks, this project has made some colossal progress. It started off as just making some refinements to what was already done, but now there’s a lot more than that.
The largest of it all has to be the fact that we can now pretty much fit as much text as we need on a dialogue line. We were previously limited to 16 characters which was really quite annoying. Habilain is responsible for this revolutionary bit of progress.
Klarth was finally motivated to finish the script inserter (at least, the basic functionality). That combined with Habilain’s hack makes it possible to insert translated scripts and have them appear as intended.
And for me, I implemented my real first assembly level hack ever to fix all the text centering, which I am quite proud of.
The “only” bad news news to report is that the script translator has not returned any emails sent in the last several weeks. It’s worrisome because she helped us complete previous projects before, so had a record of dependability. At least we have a reliable “backup team” working on the script now, as I don’t want to waste anymore time in that front, seeing this technical progress and that this project is now over seven years in the making.
So far, there are only several more smaller ASM hacks and bugfixes left before this begins to look just about perfect all-around. We should be able to handle those within a timely manner. We’re mostly just riding on the script at this point before we can FINALLY release this thing.
We’re also hoping to enlist the help of an English major for the editing process of script revision. I want the characters have defined personalities, voices, and have it all flow naturally. The entire script is roughly around ~600KB.
